BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — A 22-year-old Leeds man died after being found unconscious in a car at the intersection of 41st Street North and Messer-Airport Highway, according to Birmingham police.
A South Precinct Task Force officer was alerted by a citizen that Andrew Martin was unresponsive inside his 2001 Honda Prelude at the traffic signal. The officer notified Birmingham firefighters who then took Martin to UAB Hospital.
About 4:30 Friday afternoon, the 22-year-old was found unconscious in his car at a North Avondale intersection, Birmingham police said. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.
Hospital staff pronounced Martin dead shortly after arrival. Upon further examination by hospital staff, Martin was found to have suffered a gunshot wound.
