A 911 call around 1:15 Saturday morning sent deputies with the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office to a home on Whites Mill Road. Behind closed doors deputies found a man dead, shot by a single bullet.
“It appears that both parties were drinking and had engaged in a physical confrontation. At some point the suspect produced a firearm and during a struggle, again based on the investigation, shot the victim,” said Sheriff Fred Newman.
Deputies arrested Timothy Mitchler and charged him with Second Degree Murder. “The suspect was transported to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail without bond,” added Sheriff Newman.
A devastating loss for family members because the victim is Mitchler’s brother-in-law. “Now there’s hurt all the way around for everybody,” said David Mitchler, the suspect’s father.
Andres Antonio Droguett, 32, of Ashburn, Va., was the victim in a Saturday shooting in Abingdon, according to Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman.
Timothy James Mitchler, 26, of Abingdon, has been charged with second degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Mitchler is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail and has a preliminary hearing today.
According to Newman, Droguett and Mitchler are brother-in-laws. They were drinking Friday night when an argument ensued. Mitchler retrieved a handgun, and there was a struggle for the gun. During the scuffle, the handgun was discharged, and Droguett received a single gunshot wound. He died at the scene.
