Police in Staunton are working on their first murder case in nearly two and a half years. It happened late Thursday night in a normally quiet neighborhood where investigators say a man gunned down the boyfriend of his estranged wife.
Police say Steven Glenn Moore, who was separated from his wife, drove to the Staunton house she shared with Van Wesley Bell, Jr. on the 800 block of Fisher Circle.
The two men got into a physical fight near the front door, and investigators say Moore fired shots that left Bell dead in his own yard.
Moore, 61, from Stuarts Draft faces first-degree murder and a pair of firearms charges.
Investigators call the alleged murder weapon a small-caliber handgun, but won’t say whether it has been recovered.
A witness called 911 at 11:55 p.m. with a description of Moore and his pickup truck.
