ROANOKE, Va. (WTVR) — Roanoke police now say a man and woman found dead inside a home Monday both had gunshot wounds.
Investigators, who called the incident a murder-suicide Tuesday, also released the names of the two people killed.
Police said 31-year-old Erin Elizabeth Thomas, of Roanoke, and 58-year-old Jon Peter McIlroy, of Roanoke, were found dead.
A search warrant filed in Roanoke Circuit Court said the female family member found them in an upstairs bathroom of the home, which Thomas owned. She called 911, and officers responded to the scene at about 9:55 a.m. Monday morning. Johnson said the exact time of the shooting is still under investigation.
Johnson said a gun was found near McIlroy’s body. The search warrant said investigators recovered a black handgun, along with two cartridge casings and a bullet fragment from the bathroom.
Earlier Tuesday, police said the two victims did live together in that house, with the woman’s young daughter, but they were not married.
