Harris County Sheriff’s officials say what was originally reported as a major traffic accident turned out to be a homicide.
Deputies were dispatched to a strip center in the 5600 block of Aldine Bender at Lee Road at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday evening, March 29.
“When deputies arrived on the scene, they learned that the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, Jermaine Godine, had suffered a gunshot wound, lost control of his vehicle and struck four unattended vehicles in the parking lot,” HCSO Homicide Sgt. Ben Beall said in a news release. “Godine was pronounced dead at the scene.”
A passenger in the car reportedly told investigators that he and Godine, 23, of Houston, became involved in a dispute with two other male passengers. During the dispute, one of the males allegedly produced a firearm and shot Godine. The two black male suspects fled prior to deputies arriving on the scene.
