LAPLACE, La. — A LaPlace man was found fatally shot to death inside a home early Wednesday, according to St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre. The homicide is the ninth of 2013 in St. John Parish.
Around 1:30 a.m., deputies were called to home in the 1500 block of Ellerslie Avenue on a report that a man had been shot, Tregre said. When deputies arrived at the home, they found Johnathan Toussaint, 33, inside his residence.
His wife had found him dead in a closet with bullet wounds, according to St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The estranged wife of a LaPlace man killed during a home invasion in July has been arrested in connection with his murder. St. John the Baptist Parish investigators say Toya Madison Toussaint, 33, hired teenagers to kill her 33-year-old husband in order to collect an insurance policy.
The couple, whom authorities said had been together for 14 years, was married for five years before separating in May.
