SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a man on Wednesday.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. in the 900 block of Canton, on the city’s east side.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said authorities are looking for a large white vehicle last seen leaving the area. However, SAPD said witnesses were not being very cooperative.

Several family members have been on the scene for hours, according to police. The family said the victim’s name was Stephon Jaumal Finnell.

Police have arrested a man in the slaying of Stephon Finnell, who was shot to death Sept. 4, two months after his pregnant girlfriend was killed.

Roderick Herron, 27, walked into the Police Department’s Public Safety Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon and turned himself in, officials said. Shortly after, he was taken to the magistrate’s office and booked on a murder charge.

Sgt. Javier Salazar, a police spokesman, said the amount of publicity that case received played a part in Herron coming forward. He had been named as a suspect last week, and his picture was widely circulated, including on the department’s Facebook page late Friday.

Finnell, 22, was gunned down on a front porch in the 900 block of Canton on the East Side, two months after the slaying of his girlfriend, Baby Girl Mshae Harrison, 19.

A 19-year-old woman was shot and killed inside her East San Antonio apartment early Thursday morning, and police are looking for any clues to help find her killer.

Shots were fired around 1:20 a.m. at an apartment complex on Gevers and E. Houston.

The victim’s 3-year-old daughter and boyfriend were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said.

Family and friends want the shooter to know that whoever took her life, took a caring mother from a child.
