The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the name of the man who was shot and killed by Port Hueneme police officers early Friday morning. An autopsy concluded that 53-year-old Michael DeLuca of Thousand Oaks died from multiple gunshot wounds. Port Hueneme police have not released any additional information since Friday’s shooting. At that time, police said that their officers responded at 4:13 AM Friday to a report of a traffic collision in the 500 block of E. Surfside Drive. Police said shortly after arrival, shots were fired. They said that as a result of the shooting DeLuca was killed, pronounced dead at the scene. The officers were not injured. The DA’s office, Oxnard PD, and the sheriff’s department were all assisting Port Hueneme police with the investigation into what happened. They are asking anyone with information to call Detective Sgt Eric Starna at PHPD at (805) 986-6629.
“He’s always parked his truck up here at night and in the morning,” said Donni Perez of Port Hueneme.
A 53-year-old Thousand Oaks man shot and killed by Port Hueneme police this month was a former boxer and bodyguard for Sylvester Stallone, his son said this week.
Michael “The Duke” De Luca was an accomplished man who had other aspirations, son Mike De Luca Jr. said.
Officials say after receiving several 911 calls on Friday, they confronted Deluca at the scene of a traffic accident.
Police say Deluca was not cooperative and told officers that he had a gun.
Officers first used a Taser in an effort to subdue him. Port Hueneme police say they then used deadly force when Deluca’s actions escalated.
