BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Police are investigating an early-morning homicide in Birmingham.
South Precinct officers responded to an assault call about 2 a.m. in the 4200 block of Third Avenue South. When they arrived, they found a man on the the sidewalk, wounded by gunfire.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the man dead on the scene, according to police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. Williams said police are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.
Authorities said the man is a 52-year-old transient from out of state. They have not yet been able to locate his family.
