PERTH AMBOY – A 32-year-old man shot and killed by police Wednesday afternoon was armed with a knife, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.
Dixon Rodriguez, described by friends as having special needs, encountered two Perth Amboy police officers on Hall Avenue about 1:18 p.m. and attacked one of them with the weapon, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
“We have recovered a weapon from the decedent’s hand,” Carey told ABC-TV news.
PERTH AMBOY – Surveillance video of a police-involved shooting in Perth Amboy has been released, 1 and a half years after the fatal shooting.
Dixon Rodriguez was shot and killed by Perth Amboy police officers after a confrontation on Hall Avenue in early December 2013.
In the video released, Rodriguez is seen talking with two officers who were responding a 911 call. Rodriguez gets into a physical altercation with one of the officers and then the other shoots and kills him. Authorities have said Rodriguez was armed with a knife. Rodriguez’s family denies that claim.
PERTH AMBOY – The mother and brother of a special needs man shot and killed by city police officers claim in a recently filed lawsuit that police entered their home after the shooting, took a knife from the kitchen and planted it on the victim’s body.
