A man was found dead after a shooting led to an hours-long standoff in southwest Miami-Dade Sunday.
The shooting was reported around 11 a.m. in the 11700 block of Southwest 18th Street, police said.
Police said it was a domestic incident and that a woman and her son were able to escape from the house before a man fired at officers and barricaded himself inside the home.
“Upon the officers’ arrival they were approached by a subject that fired several shots at them,” Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Robin Pinkard said. “The officers were able to retreat and return fire to the subject.”
Several officers and a SWAT team were seen responding to the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing shots, and some said police told them to stay in their homes.
Police reported that the unidentified man was found dead when they entered the home around 5 p.m. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound.
Police said it was unknown whether the suspect was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
An 18-year-old son in the house was not injured.

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is investigating an incident that occurred at the above location. According to investigators, officers were dispatched to the residence regarding a Domestic Related (threats with a gun) call. Upon their arrival the subject discharged a firearm at officers, at which time they returned fire. The subject then barricaded himself inside the residence. Victim #1 and victim #2 were able to exit the residence, where victim #1 was observed suffering from a gunshot wound. Miami-Dade Police Special Response Team (SRT) responded and made entry into the residence where they discovered the subject deceased. It is unknown if the subject was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Victim #1, was transported to Kendall Regional Hospital in serious condition. Victim #2 sustained no injuries.
No officers were injured.
