The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside his North Fort Myers home on Wednesday and his truck was found abandoned on Interstate 75.
Deputies were called to a home on West Mariana Avenue around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release. They found a man, later identified as Kurt Walter Nusbaum, 61, dead inside. An autopsy on Thursday ruled his death a homicide.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 27-year-old Fort Myers man early Friday in connection with the killing of a 61-year-old North Fort Myers man.
Vincent Michael Yazvac, 27, has been charged with felony murder, home invasion robbery and three separate counts of grand theft and is in custody in the Lee County Jail, the Sheriff’s Office reports.
During the investigation, detectives learned that victim Kurt Nusbaum was last seen Sunday afternoon, and the last call from his phone that day was to a local bail bond company. The information led to the identity of Yazvac as the caller and a location where he was staying. He was arrested about 2:45 a.m. Friday.
While the suspect denied knowing Nusbaum, he claimed he borrowed a stranger’s phone to make a call from Walmart in North Fort Myers. Yazvac positively identified Nusbaum as the man who loaned him the phone. Still, he denied killing Nusbaum and provided an account of a friend he later went out with Sunday night.
Dexter Ward, 26, of Fort Myers is in custody charged with accessory after the fact of felony murder; accessory after the fact home invasion robbery with a firearm; grand theft; grand theft of a firearm; dealing in stolen property; grand theft of a motor vehicle; and, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
