MOBILE, Alabama — China Leann Barber, 20, Robert “BJ” Sprinkle, 23, and Augustus “Gus” Bennett are the names of the three people who died in Tuesday’s shooting at Campus Quarters apartment complex in Mobile, near the University of South Alabama.

The Mobile Police Department confirmed the names Wednesday after making sure the families were notified.

Mobile Police Department also stated that Sprinkle was the shooter.

Barber and Sprinkle attended Theodore High School and were married, according to Mobile County marriage records. The two married on December 12, 2012 and became estranged recently, according to family.

According to a friend of Barber’s who spoke to Alabama Media Group, Barber and Sprinkle had been separated since May 4, 2013.

They had been a couple for 4 1/2 years.

The wedding had not been planned and was a spur-of-the-moment decision that Barber later expressed remorse for, according to the friend.

Bennett, of Coden, Alabama, announced that he was in a relationship with Barber on Dec. 8 of this year, via his Facebook page.

Barber’s family has suffered immense tragedy growing up in impoverished conditions and she is the fourth of six children to die. Her brothers Ben and Tyler died in separate car accidents, and her brother Kevin of natural causes.
