December 13, 2013 – Houston police are investigating the shooting of a woman and apparent suicide of a man at 6406 Leader about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 12).
The female victim, Catalina Calderon, 51, of the above address, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she remains in serious condition. The suspect, her husband, Miguel Calderon (H/m, DOB: 5-14-68), suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address. Officers arrived and found Ms. Calderon lying on the floor of the dining room. Upon further investigation, officers found Mr. Calderon in a back bedroom of the residence. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Calderon deceased. Ms. Calderon was then transported to the hospital.
Houston police said the couple’s two children, ages 10 and 15, were inside the house during the shooting. It is unclear if they witnessed the shooting.
