Robert Keith Nichols was found unresponsive by authorities at around 3:30 p.m. at 108 Morris Circle after apparently being shot in the face, Prattville police released.
Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified Joseph Allen Nolin, 23, as the suspect who shot Nichols. Nolin was arrested and charged with murder.
Nolin is being held at Prattville Metro Jail on $75,000 bond.
Bush sentenced Joseph John Nolin, 24, to 20 years in prison on his manslaughter plea. Nolin told the court that the Dec. 12, 2013 shooting of his friend and roommate, Robert K. Nichols, 23, was an accident. Nolin entered the plea on Aug. 27, courthouse records show.
The incident occurred at the home on Morris Circle that the the men shared with other people. Heather Dixon, Nolin’s attorney, told the court that Nolin went to get a holster for the handgun. When he handed the pistol to Nichols, it fired accidentally, she said.
