A family in the Red Bird neighborhood of Dallas has been torn apart after a man fatally shot his stepson and then himself while his wife watched the violence unfold.
Dallas 911 dispatchers told NBC 5 that officers received a call about a shooting at a home in the 400 block of Goldwood Drive, near Interstate 35E and Camp Wisdom Road, at about 1 a.m. Friday.
When officers arrived, they said they found two men dead inside the home.
According to a police report on the incident, 22-year-old Charles Antonio Green and 49-year-old Reginald Brewer, both residents of the home, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Police said that Brewer shot and killed Green before turning the gun on himself. Bridget Alexander, the mother to Green and wife to Brewer, confirmed that information when she spoke with NBC 5 Friday morning.
“He shot him. He blew his head off,” said Alexander. “He turned to me and told me he didn’t mean to do that.”
Alexander continued describing what Brewer did next.
“He sat down in the chair and grabbed his wallet and walked out of the door.”
Moments later, Brewer returned.
“The next thing I know, he came back in, picked the gun back up and shot himself in the chest,” Alexander said. “I was still on the phone with 911. I didn’t know what to do.”
