STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — She escaped one nightmare on Staten Island seven years ago, when a babysitter obsessed with her young child tried to hire a hit-man to have her killed.
But Jessica Liriano found a new nightmare in Durham, N.C., and this time, she couldn’t escape — on Dec. 16, police there say, her ex-boyfriend, Michael Teon Brown, shot and killed Ms. Liriano and her current boyfriend, Jerron McGirt, 34, in her home.
This past weekend, Ms. Liriano’s friends and loved ones gathered in the San Juan Funeral Home in Brooklyn, where the 33-year-old mom was laid out, in a pink dress and a pink coffin.
Brown is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jessica Liriano, 33, and Jerron McGirt, 34. Police said Liriano and McGirt were shot outside their home in the 2200 block of Cheek Road on the morning of Dec. 16, moments after putting two of her three children on a school bus.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. —Investigators say a man wanted for killing two people this week in a North Carolina home has been shot by officers trying to arrest him in Darlington County.
Authorities say 28-year-old Michael Brown was taken to the hospital, but is expected to survive after the Wednesday morning shooting.
