The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the second victim who was fatally wounded in a south Sacramento shootout as 21-year-old Tre Howard.
Howard and 25-year-old Sheldon Smith died after two groups exchanged gunfire outside a home on Ventura Street the night of Dec. 17. A third man also was shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, Smith and the injured victim were standing with another person in the driveway of the Ventura Street home when a car pulled up. Two men got out of the car and fired, striking Smith and a 24-year-old man. At least one person in the driveway returned fire, striking Howard.
The car sped from the scene, located just south of the now-shuttered Collis P. Huntington Elementary School. Howard and Smith were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim later arrived at a local hospital and was determined to have been at the Ventura Street shooting.
A third man also was injured in the shooting, which was reported about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 6000 block of Ventura Street.
When officers arrived at the scene they found the two victims who later were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim showed up at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
According to detectives, three men were in the driveway of a Ventura Street home when another group drove up. Two men got out of the vehicle and fired, killing Smith in the driveway and injuring a 24-year-old man, said police Officer Michele Gigante.
One of the men from the car, said to be 21 years old, also died when the group in the driveway returned fire. The car then sped from the scene.
