CALDWELL, Texas (AP) — Authorities in Central Texas accused a 28-year-old man Friday of gunning down a sheriff’s deputy who was part of a team executing a search warrant.
The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office said Henry Goedrich Magee was arrested on suspicion of capital murder of a peace officer in the death of Sgt. Adam Sowders. He was being held on $1 million bond, pending an indictment.
Authorities say Magee shot Sowders at a rural home east of Somerville, about 90 miles northwest of Houston. Gunfire rang out shortly after the deputies entered the home just before 6 a.m. Thursday.
The 31-year-old Sowders had been a sheriff’s deputy for seven years and recently was promoted to sergeant investigator. He was a native of Somerville, a town of 1,300.
