16-year-old David Michael Simpson appeared in district court Christmas Eve on a murder charge for killing a man in uptown.
It was Simpson’s first court appearance in the case. He was assigned an attorney and another court date.
Police say the shooting happened at the 400 block of East Trade Street around Saturday night near Time Warner Cable Arena and the transit center.
Richard Marquis Bonds, 30, was pronounced dead on scene according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
At about 10 minutes to 11 Saturday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a parking lot in the 400 block of East Trade Street to find a deceased male with a gunshot wound.
Bonds was shot and killed in an uptown parking lot in the 400 block of E. Trade Street, near Time Warner Cable Arena, sometime around 10:49 p.m. Saturday. CMPD detectives said that, moments earlier, the victim had been involved in a fistfight.
