December 27, 2013 – Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9700 Mesa about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 22).
The suspect, Astroroid Dewayne Benton (b/m, DOB: 2-21-81), is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court for his role in the killing of Donnell Lavar Williams, 36, of Houston.
A photo of suspect Benton is not available at this time, pending further investigation.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott, Senior Police Officer C. Scales and Officers I. Duplechain and T. Ferguson reported:
Mr. Williams was found in the laundry area of the apartment complex at the above address. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 33-year-old has been convicted of murder after investigators say he killed another man in front of kids who were playing outside a northeast Houston apartment complex in 2013. Benton was sentenced to 90 years in prison Friday.
Investigators said Astroroid Benton shot Donnell Williams, 36, in the head on Dec. 22, 2013, killing him. The incident happened about 4 p.m. at an apartment complex on Mesa Drive near Sterlingshire Street.
Witnesses said they heard two men arguing before hearing the single gunshot that ended the man’s life.
