Double Shooting – Wounded – Man (Tuscaloosa, AL)

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Two men, 18- and 19-years-old, were arrested late Friday night and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one county of murder in connection with a shooting earlier that afternoon that killed a man and injured another.

Sgt. Dale Phillips, the commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, said Joshua Maquise Hall, 19, and 18-year-old Tevin Demarcus Hall were arrested late Friday after an afternoon and evening of intense investigation from the homicide unit.

Phillips said the two men share a last name, but investigators do not believe they’re related.

The teenagers are accused of pulling guns and shooting into a crowd of people during a dispute between two groups of people near the intersection of Ash Street and 29th Avenue in west Tuscaloosa.

Phillips said the two groups were involved in an on-going dispute over several issues, but explicitly said the shooting was not gang-related, and the grievances were closer to family feuds than turf wars.

A fight broke out between the two groups Friday around 2 p.m. when their disagreements boiled over, and the two teens allegedly escalated the violence by firing guns into the crowd.

24-year-old Johnny Terrell Sledge was critically injured during the shooting. He died at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa about an hour and a half after being shot. Another victim, 20, was shot but is expected to fully recover from his injuries. He has been treated and released from DCH.
