GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man whose body was found Friday on a Goldsboro street.
Goldsboro police said they went to the 700 block of North Virginia Street shortly after noon and found the man lying in the roadway. He was identified as Tony Jermaine Lewis, 42, of the 800 block of West Grantham Street in Goldsboro.
It happened around 12:10 p.m. in the 700 Block of North Virginia Street.
On June 25th last year, Goldsboro Police Department Officers responded to the 500 block of West Mulberry Street regarding a subject being shot. Upon arriving, they found forty-nine-year-old , Marquis Hobbs, suffering from gunshot wounds. Hobbs was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation revealed Nebraska Raheem Best, 23, of 707 Decoy Drive, Pikeville, as a suspect. Best was charged and arrested on yesterday, March 6th, with one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and one count of Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Best is in the custody of the Wayne County Jail under $500,000.00 secured bond.
Best was arrested December 31st of last year and charged with the murder of 42-year-old Tony Jermaine Lewis. Lewis was shot in the 700 Block of North Virginia Street. Jaquan Amand Dennis was also arrested and charged in Lewis’ murder. Both he and Best were jailed without bond for that crime.
