SALLISAW — Sequoyah County authorities on Sunday identified a 29-year-old man shot and killed by a 95-year-old man during a disturbance on Saturday.
Clinton Dale McCormick was shot once with a handgun in the “upper body,” Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said Sunday. McCormick had confronted a 95-year-old man in the Central High area just northeast of Sallisaw about 6:21 p.m. Saturday, Lockhart said.
McCormick and the shooter, who authorities had only identified as a “95-year-old male” were described as acquaintances. Lockhart said deputies spoke to the shooter, as well as a number of witnesses, before deciding not to make any arrests.
“He was making threats about he was going to kill him,” Lockhart said. “He (the 95-year-old male) felt threatened and shot the victim one time.”
The suspected shooter is a 95-year-old resident of the Central High area near Sallisaw, said Lockhart. McCormick’s mother, Teresa McCormick, identified the shooter as her employer Douglas Vaden, whom she’s worked as a live-in caretaker for the past three years.
