Prince George’s County police have arrested a 22-year-old District Heights man in connection with a weekend slaying, a suspect police tracked down using a description the victim provided before he died at a hospital.
Police responded to a call about 9:35 p.m. Saturday in the 6700 block of District Heights Parkway, where officers found 32-year-old Lyndell Lorenzo Sowells suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Sowells, of District Heights, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say they think the shooting was drug-related.
Before Sowells died, he was able to describe the man who shot him and in which direction the shooter fled, authorities said. That information led police to Omar Anthony Smith, who was found running behind nearby homes. Police also found a gun in the area.
Police arrested Smith and charged him with first-degree murder.
