Killed – Man (Houston, TX)

An off-duty Prairie View police officer fatally shot a man allegedly attempting to run him over in the parking lot of a northwest Harris County Walgreens on Saturday night, authorities said.

The officer was working an extra security job at the Walgreens, located at Antoine and Veterans Memorial. Around 8:45 p.m., a man known to write bad checks at the store entered the business, said Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman deputy Thomas Gilliland.

When the officer approached the suspect, he ran out of the store to a nearby car, Gilliland said. The officer tried to stop the man using his Taser, but it was not effective. Gilliland said the man got into the vehicle and attempted to drive into the officer, who then fired his duty weapon toward the suspect several times, striking him at least once.
