A man shot in the abdomen and chest Sunday evening during an attempted robbery has died. Harsharan Bajaj, 62, died during surgery at UMC about 3 this morning.
Bajaj was the owner of the ANP gas station at 3376 Medgar Evers Boulevard, where the attempted robbery occurred.
An employee, who did not want to be identified, says power went out at the station around 8 p.m. Sunday night and they went to the back of the store to check the meter. A black male, wearing all black, approached them and demanded money, then shot Bajaj.
“Hit him beside the head, shot him in the arm. He fell, then shot him in the stomach. It was ridiculous man that man didn’t get one red penny. Sam had four dollars in his billfold,” said one eyewitness.
The suspect knocked Bajaj down and demanded money.
Dietrich Harris, 29, is charged with capital murder in the Oct. 13 death of Harsharan Bajaj, 62, during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the ANP convenience store at 3376 Medgar Evers Blvd., police said. Robert Simpson, 32, is also charged in the case.
Jordan Johnson will remain behind bars while he awaits trial, a Hinds County judge ordered Monday.
Police said the first shooting happened Oct. 13. Johnson and two other men are accused of trying to rob store owner Harsharan Bajaj, 62, in the parking lot the ANP gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard. Police said Johnson is accused of shooting the store owner twice.
Johnson is also charged in November shooting death of Tony Brown, 51. Police said Johnson and two other men killed Brown after he walked in on them robbing his Randall Street home.
