Killed – Louis James Skelly (Larimer County, CO)

Louis James Skelly

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — Sheriff’s officials say a Livermore man who was fatally shot by a deputy Monday had called 911 to complain about a neighbor, then used a semiautomatic rifle to open fire on deputies who responded.

Larimer County coroner’s officials said Wednesday that Louis James Skelly, 60, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A deputy had checked on Skelly on Monday afternoon after a neighbor reported gunshots and yelling but found no further action was needed.

Skelly later called 911 to complain about a neighbor and other issues. Sheriff’s officials say that as two deputies approached his property, Skelly fired his semi-automatic rifle. One deputy returned fire with his department-issued AR15 rifle, striking Skelly. He died of multiple gunshot wounds from the AR15. The deputies weren’t wounded.

No further action was taken during the first visit early Monday afternoon. But when deputies returned just before 6 p.m. to investigate complaints made by Skelly via 911 calls that afternoon, he started shooting a semi-automatic SKS rifle at them, according to the news release.

Shots Fired at Police – Man (Spanaway, WA)

SPANAWAY, Wash. – A standoff that began with a man shooting at officers late Wednesday ended about four hours later with the suspect found dead in a home, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The drama began at about 11 p.m. Wednesday when deputies went to check out reports of a drug operation inside the home in the 100 block of 161st Street in Spanaway.

Officers went to the front door of the home and the occupant answered from a second-floor window that he would come down and talk with them, said Lt. Jerry Lawrence of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect shut the window and then one or more bullets were fired out of the window toward deputies, Lawrence said. The deputies retreated and called in a SWAT team. A small nearby apartment complex was evacuated.

After some time passed with no response from the man inside the house, the SWAT team fired in gas and flash-bangs. They then made entry into the home at about 3:15 a.m. and found the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

LEE COUNTY, FL –
It’s being described as a domestic situation that affected an entire neighborhood.

A 70-year-old retired New York police officer took his family hostage inside their home and had a shoot out with police before he ultimately shot himself.

Officials we spoke with say his body was found in the home’s swimming pool.

Residents said their 70-year-old neighbor Arthur Hohensee, who they knew as Arty, had been separated from his wife and hadn’t been seen here for months until Wednesday.

Eric and Mary Ann Epic saw him enter the neighborhood just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

“He started to complain I lost everything my wife and my daughter took everything,” Eric said.

He headed to the home here on Lakeland Circle. What the Epics say they saw next they’ll never forget.

“I saw him shooting at the home,” Mary Ann said.

Deputies say that was around 4:16 p.m. Wednesday.

“A gentleman in his 70s had a firearm and fired that at his wife and daughter,” said Tony Schall, a spokesman for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Minutes later deputies arrived.

“We have secured the area. We have locked down Gateway Elementary School. We have vacated residences nearby,” Schall said.

Deputies say the suspect began firing shots at officers.

“Deputies were not hit by bullets. We do not know at this time if the subject was hit or not,” Schall said.

The suspect held his estranged wife and daughter hostage inside the home.
