Killed – Jack Combs (Louisville, KY)

Jack Combs

ST. MATTHEWS, Ky. (WDRB) — St. Matthews police have arrested a suspect in the November murder of Kroger worker Jack Combs.

Officers arrested Aaron L. Cross, age 18, Friday evening, said St. Matthews Ofc. Dennis McDonald. Cross is charged with murder and first degree robbery; he is expected to appear in arraignment court at Metro Corrections on Saturday morning.

Police said in a news conference late Friday they believe robbery was the motive in the case.

Cross was a co-worker of Combs at the store, police said. They believe Cross finished his work shift and returned to the store to rob Combs. St. Matthews police could not elaborate on what evidence led them to Cross. They arrested Cross at Metro Corrections, where he was being held on separate charges from Louisville Metro Police, McDonald said.

Metro Corrections website records show those charges as first degree robbery, first degree fleeing or evading police, trafficking in marijuana (more than 5 lbs.) and tampering with physical evidence. A $75,000 cash bond was set in that separate case, the website records show.

Combs, age 34, was found shot to death outside the Hubbards Lane Kroger store where he worked on November 23.

“Mr. Combs left work at around 10:00, he had parked his vehicle at the rear of the grocery,” McDonald said the day after the crime. “He had walked around to where his vehicle was parked. And as he approached, or actually at his vehicle, that’s where he was shot.”

After being shot once in the chest, police say Combs made his way back to the front of the store to seek help, but died a short time later.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A honest, hardworking and loyal man. That’s how the father of the murdered St. Matthews Kroger employee described his son.

Even though a man has been charged with the murder of Jack Combs, III, that doesn’t mean the case is closed. The investigation is ongoing and police say there could be more arrests in the future.

“The sense of loss is overwhelming,” said Jack Combs, Jr., the victim’s father.

Nearly two months after his son was gunned down after work time has not helped heal the pain he continues to feel.

“I don’t know that there could be anything worse than losing your first born child especially like this,” said Combs.

The 34-year-old had worked at the St. Matthews Kroger since he was 16 years old. His father said he was loved, and would always cheer on the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats. He was loyal to his teams, his friends, his family and his job.

“He did the right thing, he worked hard, he really liked working at Kroger,” said Combs.

Killed – Jennifer Goddard (Ages, KY)

Jennifer Goddard

The mother of a Harlan County murder victim says her daughter did not deserve to die.

Police say 34-year-old Jennifer Goddard was killed on Wednesday at a home in the Ages community.

“She died at such a young age. She was full of life,” said Goddard’s mother Carla Burgess.

Police found her body shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday at her home.

“I went up there almost everyday and seen her. I won’t be seeing her no more up there. You know, she was my best friend,” Burgess said.

Burgess still cannot believe her only daughter is gone.

“I don’t know how I’m going to make it without her. I don’t. I don’t know how I’m going to make it without my daughter,” Burgess said.

Investigators say Goddard died from a single gunshot.

Police arrested George Rigney. Police say Rigney surrendered to troopers at the Harlan KSP Post on Thursday night. Rigney is charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He is in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Rigney turned down our request for a jailhouse interview.

Double Murder/Suicide – Dead – Warren Tripp (Brandenburg, KY)

male

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Three people, including the son of a Meade County Sheriff’s Deputy, were killed early Friday in what the Meade County Sheriff’s Office called a double murder suicide. Kentucky State Police were calling it a death investigation, but said the public was not in any danger.

A 50-year-old inside the home was identified as Warren Earle Tripp, the live-in boyfriend of the woman who lived in the home. She was identified as 42-year-old Ellen Cain. A 13-year-old who was killed was identified by friends as Tucker Wimpee, Cain’s son. Tucker’s father is Meade Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Phillip Wimpee, who is also a school resource officer at Meade Co. High School.

The shootings happened between 6:50 and 7:00 Friday morning on Otter View Court near Old Mill Road, about two miles from Otter Creek Park.

The Meade County Sheriff says Tripp shot the 13-year-old and then the boy’s mother, later turning the gun on himself.

Court documents show that Tucker Wimpee’s father tried to get sole custody of him and his sister in 2010, requesting that Tripp only have limited contact with the children, saying he had the potential of mentally and emotionally affecting them the rest of their lives. He was only granted sole custody of the sister.

Killed – Curtis Simmons (Lexington, KY)

male

A Lexington man died after an exchange of gunfire involving a number of people early Wednesday morning outside a Lexington nightclub, police said.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Curtis Simmons, 33, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. An autopsy was scheduled for later Wednesday, according to the coroner’s office.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said police were looking for at least five men who left the club in a red Dodge Avenger with Florida license plates. Detailed descriptions of the men were immediately available.

Roberts said police were reviewing surveillance footage.

The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot outside the Divas Gentlemen’s Club on Russell Cave Road, just off New Circle Road, police said.

Roberts gave the following account of Wednesday morning’s shooting: An argument developed inside the club between Simmons, who apparently had come to the establishment alone, and some other patrons. The disagreement calmed down for a while, but it resumed in the parking lot after the club closed. The argument then turned violent, and someone fired several shots, hitting Simmons.

At that point, Roberts said, a bystander who apparently knew Simmons intervened and fired several shots at Simmons’ assailant.

Lexington Police say Tevin Wright is now charged with Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection with the case.

Killed – Jay Seaford (Calvert City, KY)

Jay Seaford

Police say a Calvert City man was shot and killed by his wife on Sunday night shortly before 7 p.m.

Sheriff’s Deputies received a call from Rhonda E. Seaford, 47, of 1705 Horace Barnes Road near Calvert City, saying she had accidentally shot her husband.

When officers arrived at the home they found Jay Seaford, 46, had been shot in the back and was unresponsive. Marshall County EMS later arrived and pronounced him dead on the scene.

A Marshall County grand jury indicted Rhonda Seaford, 47, Calvert City, last week of murder – domestic violence in connection to the fatal shooting of her husband, Jay Seaford, on Nov 3.

Appearing distraught in court alongside her attorney on Friday, Seaford did not ask for bond. Public defender Jamie Jamison told Circuit Court Judge Dennis Foust his client wished to remain incarcerated.

Marshall County Detective Dan Melone took the stand Wednesday to recount the events following the initial 911 call to report the shooting.

Melone said he questioned Seaford, her son, and other relatives following the shooting, but was unable to determine whether the couple was as happy behind closed doors as they appeared.

Melone testified that Rhonda and her 13-year-old son, who was in the home during the shooting, agreed that Jay Seaford was a good man and a good father, but both mentioned previous incidents of emotional abuse, neglect and belittlement.

Melone said the 13-year-old witnessed his stepfather shoot twice into the floor.

After leaving the room, the teen said he heard another shot fired.

Melone told the court it was the teen who called police. After dialing 911 he then handed the phone to his mother who then told officers she had accidentally shot her husband.

The shot hit Jay Seaford in the back nicking his aorta, causing massive internal bleeding according to Melone.

Jay Seaford’s blood-alcohol level at the time of his death was .217, an ounce over the legal limit. Rhonda Seaford’s, which was administered two hours after the incident, indicated a level of .104.

She had told investigators she had consumed several beers and a shot of whiskey in the hours leading up to the shooting.

Seaford told investigators her husband had told her to “go ahead and shoot” because the gun was loaded with blanks shortly before the incident.

Killed – Dasean Peterson (Covington, KY)

Dasean Peterson1

A total of eight people have been taken into custody following the shooting death of a 19-year-old man in Covington.

Initially, six people were arrested in connection with the murder, including two juveniles. On Thursday, police arrested two more adult suspects charged with murder.

The shooting was described by Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders as “an ongoing dispute between two groups.”

It was reported just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of 17th and Gerrard streets. Upon arrival, police located Desean Peterson suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Peterson was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment where he later died from his injuries

COVINGTON, Ky. — New details emerged Friday in the death of a former Holmes High School football standout — showing a calculated, cold-blooded conspiracy to kill a young man.

Dasean Peterson, 19, was shot to death in his front yard in the 1700 block of Gerard Street in Covington on Sunday, Oct. 27.

A little more than 48 hours after his death, four adults and two juveniles were arrested. A day later, two more adults were arrested.

Jamell Darden, James Young, Mikyle Holloway, Hassan Abdullah, Reginald Bates and Eugene Smith are charged in connection with Peterson’s killing. A 16- and 17-year-old are also charged in the case.

With each arrest, investigators said more details in the case began to unravel.

According to the latest report, Peterson’s shooting death wasn’t a random slaying, but a coordinated plot.

Before the shooting, police said the eight held a meeting with murder on their minds.

The motive: a feud over marijuana that police say had reached a boiling point.

Starting in Alexandria, the suspects jumped in several cars and formed a convoy to locate Peterson and retaliate, according to the report.

Killed – Tony Grady (Louisville, KY)

Tony Grady

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —A teenager arrested on murder charges will go on trial as an adult.

A grand jury indicted 17-year-old Myliek First with a 2013 killing.

First was arrested in October, less than a month after the killing took place. Since then, he’s been in the Juvenile Detention Center.

Now he’s going to face a murder trial as an adult — which, if convicted, means a much longer prison sentence.

“We do believe there was a drug transaction of some sort taking place and a robbery through that transaction,” said Sgt. Josh Myers, with the Shively Police Department.

Around 8 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2013, shots rang out at the Chalet Village Apartments.

Tony Grady was found shot to death in the driver’s seat of a car; his passenger, Lashayna James, was also shot but she was still alive.

Killed – Johntel Crocker (Lexington, KY)

male

After six hours of deliberation Thursday, Fayette Circuit Court jurors found Joshua Lee Tevis guilty of reckless homicide and being a persistent felony offender in the shooting death of Johntel Crocker.

As the verdict was read by Judge Pamela Goodwine, cries and sobs were heard from relatives of both the convicted and the victim. Jurors recommended that Tevis, 28, serve a total of 15 years.

Tevis, of Lexington, was charged in the fatal shooting of Crocker, 22, in the parking lot outside the Divas Gentleman’s Club on Sept. 22, 2013. Evidence presented during the trial showed that Tevis shot Crocker once in the chest after Crocker punched him in the mouth.

Two friends of Crocker then pulled guns and opened fire, which Tevis returned, with a total of more than 30 shots fired, according to testimony.

A man wanted in a deadly shooting outside a Lexington strip club last weekend is now in custody.

Police say they have not received any tips in connection with a homicide at Divas Gentlemans Club Sunday morning.

Police tell us Joshua Tevis turned himself in on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning police say they got a call for a fight that broke out in the parking lot of Divas Gentlemens Club on Russell Cave Road. Police say witnesses said two people started shooting at each other during the fight.

When police arrived they found at least 30 shots had been fired, hitting seven cars and one man, 22-year-old Johntel Crocker who died from his injuries.

Double Shooting – Killed – Jeffrey Frump (Gray, KY)

Jeffrey Frump

A Knox County Sheriff’s deputy was shot late Monday and a Gray man was killed as the deputy responded to a domestic violence complaint, according to Kentucky State Police Post 10 — Harlan Public Affairs Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs.

The shooting happened about 11:52 p.m. when Deputy Brian Hensley arrived at a home on Orleans Circle. Hensley was at the home’s front door when he heard a gunshot. Hensley entered the home and Jeffery S. Frump, 44, of Gray, fired shots at Hensley. Hensley, who was struck in the leg, went out of the home seeking cover as Frump followed. Once on the front porch, Frump again aimed his weapon at Hensley, who returned fire, fatally wounding Frump.

Hensley was taken by ambulance to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. His condition was believed to be non-life threatening.

Kentucky State Police say the deputy was called to the home on Orleans Court in Gray around midnight for a domestic dispute. They say a man at the home, Jeffery Frump, fired a shot hitting the deputy in the leg. Deputy Brian Hensley then returned fire killing Frump.

It happened just before midnight in the Gray community, just outside of Corbin.

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky State Police are trying to figure out exactly what led to the shooting that left a deputy injured and another man dead.

Hazel Hibbard said her boyfriend, Jeffrey Frump came home Monday night very upset.

“I ain’t never seen him that way before,” she said.

Hibbard says she went outside to call 911 and Frump locked her out. Deputy Brian Hensley from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office showed up a few minutes later.

“He was hollering at Jeff. he said, ‘Jeff you got to open this door or I’m going to to come in. He had his blackjack in his hand,’ That’s all I seen until the shots started firing and he jerked his gun out and started firing back,” said Hibbard.

Police say Frump shot at Hensley from behind a couch. They say Hensley was hit, jumped from the porch, and shot Frump after he came outside and pointed the gun again.

“Officer fell off the porch rail and hollered at me, he said, ‘Ma’am I need you to call 911 because there’s a officer down. I been hit,’ and he was screaming and next i know it got real quiet,” said Hibbard.
