Searchers in Yazoo County have found Ricky Saxton’s body near his truck in a wooded area near Dale and Wildwood Roads. Coroner Ricky Shivers says the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff says it appears Saxton was shot in the back of the head, execution style, with a .22 caliber weapon.
Saxton had been missing since Wednesday, and the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies were searching for him.
He was found early Thursday afternoon near his truck, which was parked next to another vehicle at what appears to be an abandoned house.
Saxton owns a wrecker service and told someone he was going to pick up a vehicle Wednesday afternoon and hadn’t been heard from since.
Both suspects wanted in the murder of Ricky Saxton are now behind bars. Thirty-Six year-old Johnny Mack Brown of Yazoo City is in custody and is being held at the Yazoo County Jail. Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff says Brown was arrested Monday night but managed to escape. His aunt turned him in Tuesday.
The Sheriff also says both Brown and his wife Shontina have confessed to Ricky Saxton’s murder.
They’ve both been charged with capital murder, conspiracy to commit capital murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Johnny Mack Brown has also been charged as a felon in possession of a fire arm.
After a search was launched, his tow truck was found, with his body lying next to it, on Dale Road in Benton. He had been shot and investigators said someone had gone through his pockets and stole $650.00.
Ricky Saxton, 57, was shot in the head Nov. 13, 2013, in a field in a remote part of the county, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said. Saxton had gone to pick up a vehicle and was never heard from again. Witnesses said at the time that investigators found Saxton’s body by tracking the GPS signal on his cellphone.
