Cory Johnson

A driver was fatally shot from another vehicle at an intersection near Calvary Cemetery late Saturday night, police said.

The victim was identified as Corey Johnson, 39, of the 3900 block of Laramie Drive in St. Louis County.

Authorities said Johnson was driving a late-model Chrysler 200 north on North Broadway near the intersection of Switzer Avenue about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when the occupant of another vehicle — also a late model Chrysler 200 — opened fire, striking Johnson in the chest and head.

The shooting caused Johnson’s vehicle to careen into a light pole before coming to rest on the steps of an abandoned building.

Police said the second car made a U-turn after the shooting and fled south on Broadway.

On 12/21/13, at 11:51 police were called to Broadway and Switzer relative to a victim of a shooting.
Victim Cory Johnson was slumped at the wheel of a white Dodge pickup truck. He died from gunshot wounds to his chest and head.

The suspects, who were occupying a DARK GRAY, NEWER MODEL CHRYSLER 200, with tinted windows, and an unknown plate, pulled along side the victim and shot him several times. The suspects then made a u-turn, driving southbound on N. Broadway away from the scene.

Dead – Joel Bravard (Kansas City, MO)

Joel Bravard1

A man who was in a shootout with Kansas City police on Dec. 19 and who died later in a hospital killed himself, police said Friday, citing autopsy results.

Joel D. Bravard, 26, was found shot in the head inside a house after he allegedly shot a police officer in the leg when officers went to question him. Bravard died four days later.

Police found the body of a man inside a south Kansas City home early Friday after he allegedly threatened to kill himself and any officers responding to a disturbance.

A standoff began shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday when officers responded to the disturbance in the 500 block of East 129th Terrace. Arriving officers discovered that the man, in his late 60s, reportedly had fired shots and threatened suicide. He also allegedly called 911 twice and threatened to shoot officers, police said.

After the man refused to come out of the house, police initiated a tactical response for a barricaded person called an Operation 100.

During the standoff, the man allegedly fired at police six times, with several bullets striking near officers. One officer crossing the back yard saw snow explode near his feet from a bullet. Another bullet struck the front fender of a police car.

As tactical officers prepared to fire a pepper spray canister into the house, the man reportedly pointed his gun out a front window at the officers. A sniper then fired at the gunman, who retreated.

After that, an officer heard what sounded like a gunshot inside the house, police said.

Officers entered the house at 3 a.m. Friday and found the man’s body with a head wound. Police did not release his name. Detectives were awaiting the medical examiner’s report to determine whether the fatal shot was self-inflicted..

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Independence police have identified a teenager whose body was found in a car early Friday after a shooting in Kansas City.

Michelle Russell, 19, was found near Center Point Medical Center after an unusual series of incidents.

Kansas City police said officers were called to a motel in the 8200 block of Northwest Prairie View Road about 9:30 p.m. Thursday on a reported shooting. Police said they could not find a victim.

“Information was then received that a vehicle containing a shooting victim had arrived at North Kansas City Hospital. That vehicle then left the hospital without dropping off the shooting victim,” Kansas City police Capt. Tye Grant said in a news release.

Police found the vehicle near 35th Street and Jackson Avenue in Independence about 4 a.m., and Russell was dead inside.

Police had been looking for Bravard on a Platte County warrant for failure to appear in a case involving stolen property.

They also wanted to question him in the Nov. 21 death of 19-year-old Michelle L. Russell, who was shot at a Northland motel. Her body was found hours later in a car near Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

A man sought for questioning in regard to 19-year-old Michelle Russell’s death and also involved in a police standoff has died, acccording to Kansas City Police Captain Tye Grant.

Joel Bravard, 26, died from a gun shot injury sustained in last week’s standoff with Kansas City Police, says Grant.

As previously reported, Kansas City Police were conducting a residence check last Thursday morning at the 500 block of North Lawndale Avenue in Kansas City to serve a Platte County warrant for a wanted subject. Once police arrived at the residence, they were greeted by gunfire from a person inside. Police were still outside at the time and one officer was shot in the leg. He was later treated for his injury and released. Eventually officers surrounded the residence. Once inside they found Bravard with a life-threatening gun shot wound. He was taken to a hospital. Grant reports that Bravard died at the hospital.

Killed – Marcel T. Buchanan (Kansas City, MO)

Marcel T. Buchanan

KANSAS CITY (AP) – A Kansas City man has been charged with killing another man during a handgun exchange.

The Jackson County prosecutor’s office announced Saturday night that 19-year-old Chan O. Brown faces one count each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Prosecutors are requesting a bond of $250,000. It isn’t immediately clear if Brown has an attorney.

The probable cause statement says 25-year-old Marcel Buchanan was found dead earlier this month inside a parked vehicle. A witness told detectives he and Buchanan met Brown to exchange firearms. The witness said that after the trade, Brown pulled out another handgun and announced that he was going to rob them.

Court documents say a struggle ensued over the firearm, and Buchanan was shot. The witness later identified Brown from a police lineup.

Police officers were called to 62nd Street and South Benton Avenue about 4:30 p.m. on a reported shooting.

Killed – Brock Powell (West Plains, MO)

Brock Powell

A man has died in a shooting incident that occurred Tuesday evening in the area of CC Highway about seven miles west of West Plains. Howell County Coroner Tim Cherry identifies him as Brock Powell, 37.

The Howell County Sheriff’s Department is not releasing details at this time, but a report from the sheriff’s department shows that deputies were dispatched to 8489 CR 6890 at 8:35 p.m. “in reference to reports of a gunshot victim.” Officer Derek Hughston wrote, “Upon arrival one male subject was located within the residence that was deceased.”

Cherry said an autopsy to determine the official cause of death is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Cox South in Springfield. He said Powell, 37, of 8489 CR 6890 suffered at least one gunshot wound.

Howell County Sheriff Mike Shannon said no one is in custody in connection with the shooting and that the matter is under investigation. Asked if there is reason to believe that others are in danger, Shannon said at this time he does not believe there is cause for concern regarding the safety of the general public.

A fight at a home on Tuesday night led to a fatal shooting outside West Plains. Now investigators are trying to determine if it was a justifiable homicide.

An incident report from the Howell County Sheriff’s Department says the shooting was at the home of Marty Fox, 8409 County Road 6890. Fox called 9-1-1 about 8:30 p.m. to report he’d shot Brock Powell.

Fox told deputies that Powell showed up and at his home and started stabbing Fox. The incident report says, “As a result of the altercation, Powell suffered a fatal gunshot wound.”

Killed – Radonna Roland-Holman (Mount Vernon, MO)

female

A 54-year-old man is believed to have shot and killed his wife, and then called 911 and waited for deputies to arrive at their home east of La Russell.

Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay said David K. Holman was arrested Monday night after the fatal shooting of Radonna L. (Roland) Holman, 55, inside their home at 6504 Highway 97.

Holman was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He remained in custody Wednesday at the Lawrence County Jail in Mount Vernon without any bond amount set as yet. He is expected to make an initial court appearance sometime today.

DeLay said Holman called 911 to report that his wife had been shot. Deputies who responded to the call found her on a bed in the residence with a single gunshot wound to her torso. The deputies tried to revive her, but she appeared to have died before the arrival of emergency responders, the sheriff said.

Lawrence County authorities say a man has been charged with first-degree murder in the apparent shooting death of his wife.

The sheriff’s office says 55-year-old Radonna Roland-Holman was found on a bed at her home Monday night in western Lawrence County with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Deputies were unable to save her.

Investigators say her husband, 54-year-old David Holman, called authorities to the house. He was later charged and is being held without bond in the county jail. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Killed – Scott M. Williford (Independence, MO)

male

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a Kansas City man who was unarmed but said he had a gun early Saturday morning in Independence, said Sgt. Collin Stosberg, Highway Patrol spokesman.

The man was identified as Scott M. Williford, 33, Stosberg said.

As is routine in such cases, the trooper was placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

The trooper stopped to check on a man who was walking down the middle of Noland Road carrying a white plastic bag at 3 a.m. Saturday. When the trooper asked the man what he had in the bag, the man answered drugs, Stosberg said.

“The suspect said he had a 9 mm handgun and proceeded to stick his hands in his waistband as if he was attempting to retrieve a weapon,” Stosberg said. “The trooper, fearing for his own life, fired his service weapon, killing the suspect.”

No gun was found on the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Killed – Eric R. Harrell (Kansas City, MO)

male

A man was found dead outside a home on the 2500 block of Quincy Avenue late Friday evening, according to a KCMO police spokesman.

Officers were dispatched after reports of gunshots, he said. The man, identified by KCMO police as 33-year-old Eric R. Harrell, was dead at the front door of the house. Anybody with information is asked to contact the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.

A Kansas City man and woman have been charged in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old man last December.

Omar T. Muhammad, 20, and Monique Ransom, 33, face second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.

Eric Harrell’s body was found inside a residence in the 2500 block of Quincy Avenue on Dec. 6.

According to court records, Ransom and Harrell were in an earlier dispute, resulting in her arrest.

While being released, detention officers heard her say she was going to kill Harrell. After his death, she acknowledged the statement.

A witness said Ransom and Muhammad went into the residence. While the witness was in his car, he heard gunshots and saw Muhammad and Ransom run out of the house.

Muhammad was holding a gun, the witness said.

Another witness told police that Muhammad recounted the killing while he was in the Jackson County Jail.

Jackson County prosecutors on Thursday accused a woman and her brother of fatally shooting the woman’s roommate in December.

Prosecutors charged Monique Ransom, 33, and Omar T. Muhammad, 22, both of Kansas City, each with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Dec. 6 death of Eric R. Harrell, 33.

Kansas City police were called about 11 p.m. Friday to Quincy Avenue between 24th and 26th streets on reports of shots fired.

Killed – Joshua D. Ford (Springfield, MO)

Joshua D. Ford

The Greene County sheriff has identified the man who was killed Sunday after being shot by deputies in Bois D’Arc.

The sheriff’s office said Joshua D. Ford, 33, of Springfield, rushed three deputies near woods in western Greene County. Ford, authorities said, appeared to carrying something, but it is unclear if Ford was armed.

Deputies said Monday that Ford has had “numerous” contacts with law enforcement, but the News-Leader was unable to determine Ford’s criminal history by press time.

Deputies were called to a home Sunday evening on Farm Road 45, just north of Interstate 44, by a homeowner who had found — and confronted — an unknown man outside his home.

At a news conference, Arnott did not say whether investigators found that Ford had a gun. Investigators say Ford told the man who lives at 1759 S. Farm Road 45, just north of Interstate 44, that he had a gun after the homeowner confronted Ford. That’s when the homeowner went inside his home and called 9-1-1 about the intruder around 5:20 p.m.

When three deputies arrived at the home, they say Ford ran into a wooded area along the dead-end county road next to Interstate 44. They tried to get him to come out peaceably. That’s when the deputies said Ford “engaged” with them, and wouldn’t drop what the deputies thought was a weapon wrapped in a piece of clothing in his hands.

The deputies fired at Ford when they say he charged at them. It’s not yet clear how many shots were fired and how many deputies discharged their weapons. Ford died several hours later at a hospital in Springfield. An autopsy in Columbia by the Greene County medical examiner will be part of the investigation.

The identity of the deceased suspect in the officer-involved shooting incident which occurred on 12/01/13 in Western Greene County has been confirmed as Joshua D Ford (white male, 33- years old from Springfield).

Killed – Anthony V. Bruno (Kansas City, MO)

Anthony V. Bruno

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A newly-married Kansas City firefighter is dead, and a Kansas City police officer in the hospital, after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Kansas City.

Kansas City Fire Department Spokesperson Chief James Garrett confirmed to 41 Action News on Sunday that Anthony V. Bruno was shot and killed by an off-duty Kansas City police officer after an incident early Sunday morning.

It happened around 2:30 a.m., when an off-duty officer responded to a report of a cab driver being assaulted at 12th and Wyandotte. The officer, who has yet to be identified, had been working in the area and was in uniform at the time.

According to Kansas City Police Department Spokesman Capt. Tye Grant, Bruno allegedly ran from the officer, causing the officer to chase him.

When the officer caught up with Bruno near 13th and Baltimore, police say the violence continued.

“The subject started assaulting the officer, and that got pretty bad,” Grant said. “That officer in fear of his life eventually fired his gun striking the subject.”

Despite the officer’s efforts to perform CPR, Bruno later died at an area hospital. The officer was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries. He will have surgery and is expected to stay in the hospital for a while, according to Grant.

Bruno had been out celebrating his recent marriage before the incident occurred.

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed Wednesday by the widow and parents of a Kansas City firefighter shot to death last year in a struggle with an off-duty police officer.

The suit was filed in Jackson County Circuit Court against Donald Hubbard and the ownership of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown, where Hubbard was working when Anthony Bruno was killed Dec. 1.

Killed – Sybil A. Brandon (St Louis, MO)

Sybil A. Brandon

ST. LOUIS • Police have charged a man in the fatal shooting of a woman from St. Louis.

The body of Sybil Ann Brandon, 50, of the 4600 block of Margaretta Avenue in St. Louis was found Friday in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle in Madison. She had been shot in the head.

On Tuesday, Glynn E. Smith, 39, was charged in St. Louis Circuit Court with her slaying. He was held without bail on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to police, Brandon was shot on Nov. 25 while at Smith’s home in the 4500 block of Margaretta Avenue. A witness who was there told investigators that he had been partying with Brandon and Smith, and that at one point he had left to go to the bathroom. The witness said that when he returned, he saw Brandon, who previously had been dancing to music, lying in a pool of blood. Smith was standing over her with a handgun, the witness told police.

The witness said Smith had demanded his help in getting rid of Brandon’s body. He said that they had pulled the rug she was lying on down the stairs and that an unknown male had helped Smith place Brandon in the trunk of her car and had then driven off.

Brandon was reported missing by her daughter on Nov. 29, after having been last seen the day of her murder.

December 22, 2013

Shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, Madison police responded to Third and Jackson streets to investigate an abandoned 1996 Ford Taurus registered to Brandon. Police searched the car and found her body in the trunk.

Michelle L. Russell1

Killed – Jonathan Cruz (Kansas City, MO)

Jonathan Cruz1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police have identified the man shot and killed Thursday afternoon as Jonathan Cruz, 40.

Police said the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at a home on 77th Street near The Paseo in Kansas City, Mo.

City sewer employees working on a bridge near the home said they heard two gunshots.

“They observed someone running out of the front door,” Kansas City Police Spokesman Darin Snapp said. “They backed off, of course. They did not want to get shot at if this person was shooting. They called 911 and that’s when they went back and looked over the bridge and he was gone.”

The “he” in this instance turned out to be a “she,” as police later learned the suspect who fled the scene was a woman.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police were called out to a reported homicide on the 1800 block of E. 68th St. at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, where they found a man dead inside the home. The 68-year-old woman who lived there told police she shot the man after he raped her.

FOX 4’s Rob Low reports that the woman told investigators the man, now identified as 24-year-old Paul J. Williams, knocked on her door looking for someone. When she informed him that he had the wrong house, he forced his way in and raped her, she said.

Police questioned the woman and released her. The case has been sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed. According to Kansas City crime records, Williams’ death is the 94th homicide of the year.

She told police she heard a knock on her door and opened it. A man asked for someone who didn’t live there before pushing his way inside, she said. He forced the woman into a bedroom, where he reportedly assaulted her. Afterward, he walked into the kitchen.

The woman fetched her revolver and walked out of her bedroom, police said. When the man came at her again, she shot him once. He collapsed.
