Killed – Anthony Walker (Las Vegas, NV)

Anthony Walker

After a monthlong manhunt, authorities today announced an arrest in a shooting that left a Las Vegas man dead.

Jessie Charles Washington Jr., 43, was arrested Monday and is being held without bond in the Clark County Detention Center. He faces three charges, including murder, in Las Vegas Township Justice Court.

Washington is accused in the Dec. 22 shooting death of Anthony Walker, 27, at Walker’s home on Evening Rain Avenue.

A Metro Police report into Walker’s death depicts a drug deal gone wrong. The report indicates the following:

Washington met with Walker in the parking lot of a home improvement store on North Nellis Boulevard. Washington was interested in buying marijuana for a friend who had accompanied him. Walker agreed to the deal and they drove in separate vehicles to his home in he 6600 block of Evening Rain.

At the house, Walker told his girlfriend to lock the door and wait inside, and then called a friend to come over so that someone else was inside the home, where there was a marijuana-growing operation.

Moments later an argument broke out between Walker and Washington. Walker’s girlfriend opened the door and saw Walker running toward her yelling run. At the same time, Walker’s friend arrived and saw a man pull out a gun.

The friend yelled that he would call the police, but the man with the gun forced Walker into the home regardless. The friend went back to his truck to call 911 and next saw two men run out of the house and jump into a white minivan that drove off.

Walker stumbled out of the garage and collapsed in the driveway. A second acquaintance of Walker’s arrived and found Walker with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The shooting happened at 5:55 p.m. at a home in the 6600 block of Evening Rain Avenue, near the intersection of Alto Avenue and North Hollywood Boulevard.

Killed – Robert Edward Holland III (Las Vegas, NV)

male

A man Metro Police said was shot and killed after a heated argument with another man Sunday morning has been identified as 29-year-old Robert Edward Holland III, of Las Vegas.

Metro responded about 4:25 a.m. to a shooting in the 3600 block of Boulder Highway, near Sahara Avenue. Officers arrived to find Holland suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

The suspect, Luis Pimentel, 36, fled on a bus, police said.

Detectives located Pimentel on the bus near Bruce and Fremont streets and arrested him.

Holland was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, coroner’s officials said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Holland and Pimentel knew each other and had been involved in a heated argument before the incident, police said. The men began to struggle when Pimentel allegedly shot Holland, police said.

Mass Shooting – Killed – Dr. Charles Gholdoian (Reno, NV)

Dr. Charles Gholdoian

UPDATE: 12/23/2013:

Shawntae Spears is now in good condition, according to an official with Renown Regional Medical Center. No condition is being made publicly available for Dr. Lajeunesse.
_________

UPDATE 12/19/2013:
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, Reno police confirmed the name of the shooting suspect is Alan Frazier, age 51, from Lake Almanor. They say they have found evidence indicating the shooting was planned as Frazier’s final act, and that each shot was deliberately fired at somebody. They say they may never know the exact motive, but they have evidence that he was upset with the results of a 2010 operation. His truck was found outside the shooting site and towed to an evidence yard. His last known employment was with Mt. Lassen Power Company, with family in California and Arizona. Also, accounts have been set up at Wells Fargo bank branches for anyone whp wants to donate to help the victims and their families.

Based on witness statements and evidence, here is what police believe is the timeline of the shooting:

• The suspect entered through the main office doors and encountered office staff at the front desk and patients in the lobby.
• The suspect made statements that he was looking for physicians and not patrons of the office.
• The suspect walked into the interior of the office, toward the examination rooms, where he encountered our first victim, Dr. Christine Lajeunesse. He then shot her point blank in the arm and torso, where she immediately fell to the floor.
• As he continued down the hallway, he encountered Dr. Gholdoian. He shot at the doctor, missing him, but striking our second victim, Shantae Spears, in the torso.
• The suspect’s third shot was at Dr. Gholdoian in the hallway, striking him in the torso.
• The suspect then walked into the office area where he attempted to break into a locked room. There is indication that his fourth shot was through a smoked glass door, possibly in an attempt to gain access.
• He then returned to the main lobby area where the fifth and final shot was the self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
• Located with the suspect was the primary firearm, which was a pistol grip 12-gauge shotgun, a 2-shot derringer pistol, and a fully loaded 40-caliber handgun. There is no indication that either handgun was fired.

UPDATE: Plumas County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the Renown medical campus gunman as 51-year-old Alan Frazier, a resident of Lake Almanor, California.

————

UPDATE: Renown Regional Medical Center says the name of the third victim in Tuesday’s shooting is Christine N. Lajeunesse, MD, FRCSC, FACS, from Urology of Nevada. She is in critical condition but awake.

Also Wednesday, the Plumas County sheriff confirmed his office and Reno PD secured a search warrant for the suspect, a resident of Lake Almanor, California. A search warrant was served Wednesday morning at the home believed to be that of the shooter, but his name still hasn’t been released and likely won’t be until his family is notifed, according to Sheriff Greg Hagwood. The suspect was in his early 50s and lived at the home alone, with no close or extended family living in Plumas County.

————–

RENO, NV – Reno police say the doctor who was killed in Tuesday’s shooting at Urology of Nevada was 46-year-old Charles Garo Gholdoian, MD, a doctor at that practice. Still being treated is 20-year-old Shawntae Spears, the family member of a patient, and a doctor whose name is not being released yet at the request of the family.

Police say the shooting in a building that’s part of the Renown medical complex was seemingly not random, but no motive has been established. The hospital has returned to mostly normal business after being on lockdown much of Tuesday afternoon. Urology of Nevada offices throughout the region are closed Wednesday.

Roads surrounding the hospital are back open. Police say no shooters are still being sought and everybody has been accounted for.

The first report went out at 2:05PM Tuesday. By 2:20, police say an incident command center and lockdown were in place.

Police say they have interviewed 29 witnesses, with more scheduled, and it could be several weeks before they have an accurate account of exactly what happened. They say the shooter used a 12-gauge shotgun and fired several rounds. About 100 people were in the building, the Center for Advanced Medicine, when the shooting happened.

Police say the apparent shooter’s body was found on the third floor of the medical building at 1500 E. 2nd Street. Police say he had shot himself. He has been identified, but his name hasn’t been released.

Alan Oliver Frazier, 51, left notes at his home in Westwood, Calif. “indicating the suspect’s intent to commit this horrific act” and that his actions during the shooting at Urology Nevada “were to be his final actions,” Reno police Lt. William Rulla said.

Reno police Lt. William Rulla said Frazier also “had had surgery in 2010 and claimed he was having adverse symptoms due to the surgery.” Physicians at Urology Nevada performed the surgery, but authorities did not know which doctors did the operation or where it occured, Reno spokeswoman Sharon Spangler said.

Rulla said Frazier entered the Center for Advanced Medicine B, 1500 E. Second St., on the Renown Regional Medical Center campus, and made “statements that he was looking for physicians and not patrons.”

After entering Urology Nevada on the third floor, he fired one shot point-blank with a 12-gauge shotgun, hitting Dr. Christine Lajeunesse in the arm and torso. She immediately fell to the floor, Rulla said.

Frazier continued down the hallway and fired one round at Dr. Charles Gholdoian, which missed and hit 20-year-old Shawntae Spears in the torso, Rulla said.

Frazier’s third shot hit Gholdoian in the torso, killing him.

Frazier continued down the hall and attempted to break into a locked room, Rulla said. Police believe Frazier then fired a fourth shot through the glass door of the office, possibly trying to enter the room. He returned to the lobby and shot himself in the head, police say.

Lajeunesse is in critical condition and Spears is in stable condition, the city of Reno said Thursday afternoon.

Police say Frazier had three guns during the shooting: the 12-gauge shotgun, a derringer pistol and a fully loaded .40-caliber handgun. There is no indication the other guns were fired, police said.

Killed – Charles Thomas Deishley (Las Vegas, NV)

male

Police performing a welfare check found a man in his 70s dead in his home from an apparent gunshot wound Monday afternoon.

The victim, Charles Thomas Deishley, had been an actor in “Star Trek: The Experience” at the Las Vegas Hilton from its opening in 1998 until it closed in 2008, according to his friend and co-worker Kerstan Szczepanski.

Las Vegas police said a friend of Deishley, who officials have not yet identified, was worried because he hadn’t heard from Deishely in a while.

Police checked the back of the residence in the 2800 block of Alta Drive around 1:45 p.m after no one answered the front door. While checking the backyard, they found Deishley laying on the floor.

Police were able to enter the home through an open door and confirm he was dead.

During his time at the Hilton, he played a Klingon known as General Motog and spoke Klingon to customers in the restaurant.

Police say Charles Thomas Deishley, 70, who portrayed General Motog in The Experience, was found shot to death in his home on Alta Drive.

Metro investigators believe his home may have been broken into. Deishley lived alone and police were called to his home by a friend who grew concerned when he hadn’t heard from Deishley in a few days.

Killed – Patrick Heki (Las Vegas, NV)

Patrick Heki

A December fatal police shooting was was justified, the Clark County district attorney’s office has determined.

Patrick Heki was shot and killed on Dec. 7 when he pointed his weapon at a Las Vegas police officer, prompting officers to shoot back, according to the district attorney’s office.

Officers Paul Kunz, 28, Justin Marzec, 29, and Joshua Giese, 28, were responding to a call at the home of Heki’s parents, 3950 S. Mountain Vista St., about 2 a.m. when they heard gunshots.

Heki emerged carrying a .40-caliber Glock pistol in one hand and two rifles slung over his shoulders. Kunz ordered him to drop the guns, police said, but Heki pointed one at him.

Kunz, Marzec and Giese fired at the same time.

Heki was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died less than an hour later.

Authorities’ version of the story differed from what Heki’s father told the Review-Journal hours after the death.

Dan Unger said his son obeyed police, crouching slowly and placing the pistol on the sidewalk with his hands in full view.

The district attorney’s office said Wednesday the officers acted lawfully and would not face prosecution.

Triple Shooting – Killed – Nathan Rawls (Las Vegas, NV)

male

Two men were arrested after a fatal shooting Tuesday that police said involved two guns and at least 13 bullet casings.

Las Vegas police received reports of gunshots just after 4:30 a.m. from an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Sherwood Street, near Sahara Avenue. Officers found Nathan Rawls dead on the living room floor. According to the police report, Rawls had a gunshot wound in his back and he was unable to be revived by medical personnel.

Two others were wounded in the apartment. Ashley Scott and Laroy Thomas both were shot in their ankles, police said. They were transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

A fourth person, Marque Hill, was asleep in the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said. Four bullet holes were found near his bed, police said, but none of the bullets hit him.

A nearby resident reported seeing a silver Dodge Magnum driving in the area right after they heard gunshots. A patrol officer located the car and found Matthew Washington Jr. and Martell Moten inside.

According to the report, the officer searched the car and found two guns. The men were taken to Metropolitan Police Department headquarters and interviewed.

Washington and Moten initially denied involvement. Later, each admitted he was in the vehicle but said the other was the shooter, police said.

A 23-year-old man convicted in a November shooting that left one dead and nearly killed three others was sentenced Wednesday to 64 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Washington and Martell Moten, who is still awaiting trial, fired at least 14 shots into an apartment in the 2600 block of Sherwood Street where four people were asleep.

Nathan Rawls, 31, died after being shot in the back as he slept on a sofa.

Ashley Scott and Laroy Thomas both were shot in their ankles, while sleeping on a love seat inside the apartment, as bullets flew past their heads, authorities said. A fourth person, Marque Hill, was asleep on the other side of the apartment, where four bullet holes were found near his bed, each shot narrowly missing him.

Police found two handguns — a 9 mm and a .40-caliber — in the car, one in the back passenger seat, and another in the steering column. Both of the weapons were used in the shooting, but prosecutors could not determine who fired the fatal shot.

Killed – Frank Brzozowski (Henderson, NV)

male

The Clark County Coroner’s Office released the name of a man who, police say, was shot when he tried to break in to his girlfriend’s apartment.

Medical examiners said Frank E. Brzozowski, 49, of Henderson, died of multiple gunshot wounds as a result of a homicide.

Henderson police detectives were investigating the death of a man who was shot early Sunday morning after an argument with his estranged girlfriend.

According to Henderson spokesman Keith Paul, a man and his estranged girlfriend got into an argument at a party Saturday night. The woman took him home, then went to her own apartment where she called a male acquaintance to come stay with her in fear her boyfriend would show up.

The woman and her acquaintance were at her apartment, near Green Valley Parkway and Warm Springs Road, when her boyfriend did show up and tried to knock down the front door, Paul said.

He eventually entered the apartment through a window.

The girlfriend’s acquaintance, who had a handgun, told the boyfriend to stop and when he didn’t stop, her friend shot him, Paul said. He died at the scene at about 1:50 a.m.

Killed – Cherish Noelle Pincombe (Henderson, NV)

Cherish Noelle Pincombe

Henderson, NV (KTNV) — A 23-year-old woman was shot and killed on Tuesday by a 22-year-old Henderson man.

The man claimed he was playing around with a handgun and didn’t think it was loaded when he pulled the trigger.

Colin Lowrey was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on an open murder charge. He was held without bail.

Lowrey called 911 around 8:30 a.m. saying a handgun accidentally went off and a woman was shot in the head inside the home in the 700 block of Taliput Palm Place, near Gibson and Sunset Roads.

The woman was transported to the hospital but died from her injuries.

Lowrey and the woman were in the house that he shared with three other roommates. At some point, he was playing with a semi-automatic handgun. He put it near her head and pulled the trigger. He said he didn’t think it was loaded.

A former Army Reservist was sentenced to eight to 20 years Friday for a fatal shooting that authorities said was captured online.

Colin Lowrey, who cut a deal with prosecutors just before his trial and pleaded guilty in August to voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon, admitted to shooting Cherish Pincombe in October 2013 but said he did not know the gun was loaded.

Prosecutor Jake Villani said Lowrey, who originally faced a murder charge, received the maximum sentence according to the charges.

The victim has been identified as Cherish Noelle Pincombe of Las Vegas.

Colin Lowrey, 22, is charged with shooting 23-year-old Cherish Pincombe in the head while using worldwide anonymous video chat site Omegle.com

Mass Shooting – Killed – Michael Landsberry (Sparks, NV)

Michael Landsberry

A shooting occurred at Sparks Middle School on October 21, 2013. Two people, including the perpetrator, were killed, and two others were injured. Sparks Middle School is part of the Washoe County School District.[2]

12-year-old seventh-grade student Jose Reyes opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun at the basketball courts of Sparks Middle School, injuring a 12-year-old student in the shoulder, KJ Kersey. A math teacher, Michael Landsberry, who was trying to intervene with the gunman was then shot and killed by Reyes, as he was standing on a playground. Reyes then shot and wounded a 12-year-old student, Mason Davis, who tried to come to Landsberry’s assistance after he fell onto the ground. Davis suffered an injury to his abdomen. Reyes then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The shooting happened before classes, and the school was evacuated and was closed for the week.[3][4][5][6][7]

Sparks Mayor Geno Martini said late Monday that there still was no indication of the shooter’s motive, but that the boy shot the two students before being confronted by Landsberry. Martini described Landsberry as a “well-liked teacher by students and faculty” who had served in the Nevada Air National Guard and had done two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

The shooter began firing on students as they entered Sparks Middle School just prior to the beginning of classes after a week-long fall break. Authorities were alerted at 7:16 a.m., and police arrived in less than three minutes, according to media reports, but the shooter had already taken his own life. Hundreds of officers came to the school. The students, along with students from nearby elementary schools were evacuated to a high school. Sparks Middle School will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Triple Shooting – Wounded – Man (Las Vegas, NV)

male

LAS VEGAS – An argument over a cover charge led to a nightclub shooting early Monday on the Las Vegas Strip that left one patron dead when he tried to subdue the gunman and two employees wounded, police said.

A man opened fire at 5:45 a.m. wounding a manager and a guard at Drai’s After Hours, a club at Bally’s Hotel-Casino, police Sgt. John Sheahan said. Another guard might have been injured.

Sheahan said the nightclub was open at the time and the shooter was believed to have acted alone. He was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Sheahan said the male patron was shot and killed trying to subdue the gunman as people ran from the club.

“The person is in custody. The weapon is in custody,” Sheahan said. No names have been released.

Authorities said the gunman paid an unspecified cover charge then demanded his money back before the shooting began.

The club is located on the lower level of Bally’s.

Gambling continued in the casino after the shooting, but yellow crime scene tape stretched around several banks of slot machines outside the nightclub. Debris littered the floor.

Kenneth Brown, 40, was shot early Monday morning as he left Drai’s After Hours nightclub inside Bally’s on the Strip.

When Brown saw Benjamin Frazier, 41, shoot two Bally’s security guards, Robert Farias and Anthony Guerrero, Brown jumped on the man’s back and wrestled for the gun, according to police. Brown was shot in the neck and upper chest, and he died at University Medical Center.

Both guards are expected to survive. A man who answered a phone number listed for Farias said the guard was “doing fine” but not interested in talking about the shooting.

Benjamin Frazier, angry over paying a $30 cover charge at Drai’s After Hours nightclub inside Bally’s on the Strip in October, is seen arguing with a security guard at the club.

Frazier pulls a .38-caliber revolver. A skirmish ensues. The guard falls to the ground. Another security guard opens the door, sees the gun and turns to run.

Frazier shoots them both.

The 42-year-old then walks out of the club onto the gaming floor of Bally’s pointing the handgun. People fall to the ground around him.

One man tries to stop him.

Kenneth Brown, 40, jumps on Frazier’s back and tries to tackle him to the ground. Frazier shoots at him.

They both fall to the ground.

Brown slumps over Frazier.

The dead weight appears to keep Frazier from getting up and allows security time to take him into custody.

The footage then shows medical personnel trying to revive Brown, to no avail.

Killed – Charles Sperry (Reno, NV)

Charles Sperry

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – News 4 has learned the name of the man killed during the Bank of America robbery on Wednesday, October 16th. Charles “Bob” Sperry, 80, was killed during the robbery allegedly committed by Van McDuffie.

According to an affidavit by Erron Terry, Special Agent with FBI, shortly after 10:00am, Van McDuffie entered the Bank of America pushing several people.

McDuffie approached the teller counter and handed the teller a bag, stating, “This is a robbery. Give me all your money,” and showed her a gun.

The teller then started to give McDuffie the money, when Sperry, who was at the next teller, turned toward McDuffie telling him “get out of here.” McDuffie turned toward Sperry, pulled out his gun and shot Sperry, killing him. McDuffie then moved to the teller demanding money. He got the money and ran from building.

An off-duty Reno Police Officer was in the bank at the time. He called 911 and then chased after the suspect. McDuffie was waiting at a bus stop when the Reno Police approached him from behind and subdued him.

The FBI agent said McDuffie confessed to robbing the Bank of America and shooting Sperry because he believed that Sperry was interfering with the robbery.

A court affidavit says a man accused of robbing a south Reno bank and killing a customer has confessed to the crime.

Investigators say the customer identified as 80-year-old Charles Sperry was trying to intervene with the suspect during Wednesday’s robbery inside the Bank of America on South Virginia Street.

Police say intervention is rare during bank robberies and not something anyone should try.

“In my 18 years, I haven’t seen something happen where there’s a shooting victim involved, but with any type of crime I’d tell people to be a very good witness, not to interject. It’s your safety, it’s other people’s safety even if you try to do the right thing, it could harm others as well,” says Lt. Bill Rulla.

A filed court affidavit states that 66-year-old Van McDuffie “barged into the bank and pushed a couple of people on his way up to the teller.” He then stated “this is a robbery. Give me all your money” and then showed her a gun. When she started giving him money, the court document goes on to say that 80-year-old Charles Sperry, who was at the next teller counter, told McDuffie to leave, and that’s when police say McDuffie shot Sperry. He then turned to Sperry’s teller and demanded money from that employee.

Sperry died at the scene.

Officers found two roommates had been shot inside their apartment in the 200 block of Orland Street near U.S. Highway 95 and Jones Boulevard just after midnight.

Anthony Merritt, who was shot in the head, was found dead when officers arrived. Antoine Bronson was shot in the leg and transported to University Medical Center and was expected to survive, police said.

As Merritt’s girlfriend, Antressa Summers, her grandson and Bronson were returning to the apartment, she picked up her son, Rolandis Summers, according to police.

When Antressa Summers and Bronson went into the apartment he shared with Merritt, the two men began arguing over a debt, according to the report. Her son and grandson were still in the car at the time.

Rolandis Summers heard his mother scream, grabbed a revolver from the car and went inside, according to the report.

Rolandis told police he saw Merritt in a bedroom at the end of the hall and his mother holding him back. Rolandis said Merritt made a gang-related comment and he got scared.

When Rolandis could no longer see Merritt’s hand, he shot him in self-defense, according to his statement. He said he also shot Bronson, who had been in the bathroom, as he approached.
