Double Shooting – Killed – Walesy Alvarez (Rochester, NY)

Marcus Freeman claimed he was protecting himself and his family when he shot two people, killing one, on Pullman Avenue last September.

But after 2 1/2 days of deliberation, a Monroe County Court jury found Freeman guilty of six felonies in the eight-count indictment he faced for the Sept. 4, 2013 slaying and surrounding events. Among them, he was convicted of second-degree murder for killing Walesy Alvarez, 28, of Rochester.

Freeman, 27, fired multiple times outside his Pullman Avenue home, striking Alvarez as she was in the back seat of a car and Martin Moore, then 33, who was near the car.

Alvarez, who was shot in the head, died at Strong Memorial Hospital. Moore, who was shot in the torso and shoulder, survived.

“We got justice for Walesy,” said her friend Mary Narvaez before she embraced other friends and family outside court Thursday afternoon. “That’s all we can ask for.”

In all, Freeman was convicted of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal sex act and two counts of criminal use of a firearm.
