Relatives discovered the bodies of four family members, including two children with multiple gunshot wounds, inside a Fontana, Calif. home after what appears to be a murder-suicide.
Police obtained a search warrant overnight and are continuing the investigation Tuesday morning at the home in the 7300 block of Palmetto Avenue. Authorities received a call from a 16-year-old boy who said his family members had been injured or possibly killed in the house, according to Fontana police Sgt. Doug Imhof.
“We located four bodies, two children, a female about 12 years old, a male about 10 years old, a female victim adult 35 to 40 (years old) and a male about the same age,” Imhof said. “It appears as though they all lived there.”
The victims were identified as 38 year-old Ramon Miranda, 34 year-old Silvia Miranda, 10 year-old Rayna Miranda, and 12 year-old Ramon Miranda Jr., according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
Silvia, Rayna and Ramon Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. The man, Ramon Miranda, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.
At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Fontana police officers were called to the home in the 7300 block of Palmetto Avenue, where they discovered the bodies of Ramon Miranda, 38, and Silvia Miranda, 34, and their son Ramon Jr., 12, and daughter Rayna, 10, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.

A 14-year-old male has been arrested for the Dec. 30, 2013 shooting death of a 10-year-old boy in Beauregard, Ala.
Authorities say the investigation has been ongoing, and a petition was issued earlier today, Feb. 28, charging the youth with Manslaughter.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told News Leader 9 in December that The young victim, his 12-year-old brother, and their 14-year-old friend had returned from a hunting trip, and were in a bedroom.
At the time, it was reported that one of the boys was putting his rifle away when it accidentally discharged and struck the 10-year-old in the head, killing him instantly.
The mother of the victim and another boy were in the kitchen of the home at the time of the shooting.

St. Louis man and a 6-year-old boy were found shot to death Tuesday night in an apparent murder-suicide at a house on South Hanover Street.
Cape Girardeau police identified the victims as Demetrius Beasley, 40, of St. Louis and Markell Beasley, 6, of Jefferson City, Mo.
In a news release Wednesday, the Jefferson City Police Department reported it had received information Sunday that Markell’s mother had allowed him to travel to St. Louis to be with Beasley’s family for a holiday party, and Beasley did not intend to bring him back.
Jefferson City police issued an “endangered person alert” and began investigating possible locations or other people who might know where Beasley and the boy were, the release stated.
An Amber Alert was issued for Markell on Tuesday.
Jefferson City detectives worked with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies statewide to find Beasley and Markell, the release stated.
Jefferson City police received word Tuesday evening that Beasley and Markell were in Cape Girardeau. A short time later, Cape Girardeau police responded to a call of shots fired, the release stated.
About 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, someone flagged down officers in the 300 block of South Hanover Street to report two people had been found dead in a residence, Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Jason Selzer said in an email to local media late Tuesday night.
The victims were found in a residence at 308 S. Hanover St., Selzer wrote.
Selzer sent out another email Wednesday morning identifying the two dead people as Beasley and Markell.
Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton said the cause of death was gunshot wounds.
The case of a woman and her grandson found shot to death in a Rutledge yard Saturday has been ruled a murder-suicide, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
According to a TBI news release, the victims have been identified as Deidre Thacker of Sharps Chapel and her 10-year-old grandson, Jaden Thacker. Both bodies were taken for autopsy to the East Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville.
A neighbor found the bodies shortly before 6:15 a.m. in the yard of an abandoned home at 8926 Lakeshore Drive in Rutledge, Grainger County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Charles Biddle said.
Officials said a 1995 green Taurus was found in the driveway of the abandoned home.
Authorities said evidence discovered in the vehicle as well as evidence at the scene indicated a murder-suicide. The two had no known association with the address where their bodies were found, officials said.
“It appears it happened earlier in the morning,” Biddle said. “We’ll be able to determine more about the time of death after an autopsy.”
Deputies found a .38-caliber pistol at the scene.
A woman, who lived next door to the abandoned house, found the two bodies on the 8800 block in Rutledge shortly before 8 a.m. and called police.
(WBIR) Officials said they believe a grandmother shot her 10-year-old grandson before killing herself near an abandoned house in Grainger County Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.
Taalib Pecantte, a 7-year-old black male, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, one day after he was shot in the 1900 block of South Corning Street in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9 p.m. on Dec. 2, Taalib along with his mother and a man were shot, said LAPD Det. John Skaggs. What led to the shooting is unknown.
The gunman and three others, described as black men in black hooded sweatshirts, fled in a white compact car.
Taalib’s mother and the man were treated at a hospital for graze wounds. Taalib was also taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday, said Los Angeles County Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
Skaggs said detectives are investigating the incident.
“It fits some similarities of gang activity, but we don’t know for sure yet,” Skaggs said.
Authorities on Tuesday announced charges in two killings, including the fatal shooting in December of a 7-year-old boy in Mid-City.
Charles Adam Hall, 17, was killed Sept. 1 in a drive-by shooting in Mid-Wilshire. Police said a gun was fired at Charles from a white four-door sedan in the 1400 block of South Redondo Boulevard. On Dec. 2, Taalib Pecantte, 7, was a passenger in a car along with his mother and a man, when he was fatally shot about two miles away from the first killing.
The two shootings were linked to an ongoing gang feud, said LAPD Det. Steven Katz.
Four black men, including two brothers, Tradel Billy Faniel, 28, and Windel Roman Faniel, 26, were charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with Taalib’s killing, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Paul Eugene Jamar, 19, and Danielle Peters, 31, were also charged with murder and attempted murder, according to the criminal complaint
The Richmond Hill Police Department released the names Wednesday afternoon of a mother and son found dead Monday in a Mainstreet subdivision home and say evidence points to a murder-suicide.
The victims are Michael Cyrus Green, 8, and his mother, 40-year-old Ivette Christine Greene. Both died of apparent gunshot wounds, RHPD said in a press release, and the woman left a note at the scene.
According to police, the bodies were discovered by the father, Mike Greene, who also lives at the home on 744 Bristol Way. Greene told investigators he left for work around 6 a.m. and got a text from his wife to return home. When he got back to the house he found the two bodies and called police.
The case is being investigated by RHPD and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Police said the mother was estranged from her immediate family, who live outside the U.S. and police were still trying to notify family members late Wednesday.
Officials with the Paragould Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 4-year-old boy dead on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a call of a boy with a gunshot wound to an unknown location, according to a statement on the Paragould Police Department’s website.
Once there, authorities contacted the Greene County Coroner’s Office, which pronounced the boy dead at the scene.
A spokesman for the department said no further information would be released at this time. Greene County Coroner Dick Pace was able to confirm the boy’s age but could not immediately provide other details.
According to Paragould Police Chief Todd Stovall, the coroner pronounced the four-year-old child dead at the scene.
The shooting happened at an apartment on the corner of North End Avenue and 4th Street.
DEARBORN HEIGHTS — An 11-year-old boy who was shot in the head by a teen died Nov. 26, two days after he was shot.
The child was shot Nov. 24 at a residence in the 5600 block of Kingsbury. Police believe the shooting was accidental.
The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Police believe a 15-year-old boy, whose mother dates the dead boy’s father, shot the 11-year-old with a revolver.
The boys reportedly were close and the shooting appears to have happened while they were playing with the gun.
The 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty to manslaughter after shooting 11-year-old Jeremiah Davis on Nov. 24, 2013 at his father’s house in Dearborn Heights. The Press & Guide does not name minors involved in the juvenile justice system.
Jeremiah Davis was taken to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit and died two days later from the effects of a gunshot wound to his head. His mother believes the teen knew what he was doing when he held the gun to her son’s head.
His mother, Cassandra Davis, said she’s appalled the teen will be free after just a few years under the state’s juvenile sentencing guidelines.
HEIGHTS — The teen charged with accidently shooting and killing an 11-year-old boy last year has been sentenced to at least two years in a secure juvenile facility.
The sentence was given by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Karen Braxton last Monday.
TOWNSHIP, MI, — A 12-year-old Marlette boy who fatally shot his 11-year-old friend has pleaded guilty to a charge of careless discharge of a firearm.
The boy on April 10 appeared in Sanilac County Circuit Court Juvenile Division. He faces a maximum two-year sentence if the court decides to sentence him as an adult, said Brian Henderson, Sanilac County court administrator.
The boy’s sentencing is set for April 29, Henderson said, and he could not say when Magistrate Heather Zang, who is overseeing the case, will determine if the boy is sentenced as an adult or juvenile.
The victim was identified as Tyler Dunn of Marlette.
During a sleepover in November 2013 at a residence on the 4000 block of Howard in Marlette Township, the 12-year-old was showing Tyler a lever action .30-30 model rifle when it discharged, according to police.
The 12-year-old called 911 after the shooting at about 8:20 p.m. No adults were home at the time, said Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki in December.
Biniecki said at the time he believed the shooting was accidental.
The boy’s father, Jerry Northrup, will stand trial May 15 on charges of firearm possession by a felon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Henderson said.
“The lack of adult supervision, the presence of guns, and the failure to take appropriate measures to ensure the guns present in the house were out of reach, contributed to this incident,” said Young in a statement.
A 12-year-old Sanilac County boy who pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm in the accidental fatal shooting of a friend has now received a sentence that includes 30 days in a detention facility.
The boy will serve 10 days in a facility now. After probation, it will be determined if he will serve the additional time.
The probation terms include living with his mother, being on a tether, community service, attending school, and a strict curfew. Restitution to the family of the victim also must be paid.
SANDUSKY — The Marlette Township father who pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy at his house was sentenced to jail June 18.
Jerry Northrup was sentenced to 365 days in jail for firearm possession by a felon and 90 days in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the Sanilac County prosecuting attorney’s office.
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – A seven-year-old boy, who was shot by his 13-year-old brother over the weekend, has died.
The shooting happened Saturday on Maryland Avenue in East Oak Cliff at the boy’s stepfather’s home on the 1800 block of Maryland Avenue.
Dallas police were called out to the shooting Saturday afternoon, where they were told three brothers were left alone, ages 7, 9 and 13.
Police say the three were playing, and 13-year-old was handling the gun when it fired, shooting 7-year-old Quindell Lee in the head.
Over the weekend, Quindell’s condition had stabilized, according to his grandmother. But, Monday morning she confirmed to CBS 11 that her grandson passed away.
Police are still investigating at this time and trying to determine how the 13-year-old got the gun. According to police, the stepfather told officers he had left the boys alone for 15 minutes when this happened.
Original item on Nov. 23 at 4:23 p.m.: A 7-year-old boy is in serious condition after being accidentally shot by his 13-year-old brother Saturday in an East Oak Cliff home, according to Dallas police.
A young boy died Friday night after he and his father were shot during a robbery at their Miami nail salon.
Police say 10-year-old Aaron Vu was pronounced dead shortly after being shot by two men who burst into the salon, demanded money, and then opened fire before fleeing.
Investigators say the two armed men entered Hong Kong Nails at 14832 N.W. 7th Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Witnesses told WSVN they not only demanded cash from owner Hai Vu, but also told customers to turn over their purses before shooting the Vus.
Detectives handed out flyers Saturday in the hopes of finding the two men responsible for an armed robbery at a nail salon that left a 10-year-old dead and his father injured.
The suspects broke into a nail salon at 14832 Northwest 7th Ave. and fired shots, investigators said. They fled in an unknown direction in a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck, police added.
The two victims who were struck were taken to a nearby hospital, where 10-year-old Aaron Vu (right) was pronounced dead, police said.
The boy’s father, 42-year-old Hai Vu, remains at the hospital. Business records show the elder Vu is the owner of the nail salon.
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami-Dade County grand jury has indicted Anthawn Ragan, Jr. for first-degree murder for the shooting death of 10-year-old Aaron Vu.
The shooting took place while Ragan and another suspect that hasn’t been found were committing an armed robbery of a North Dade nail salon. The alleged thieves were running out the door when one turned around and fired a shot, which hit and killed Vu.
According the arrest form, Ragan tried to hide under the covers in a back bedroom. When he was taken into custody, police said he was violent, prompting an additional charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.
Ragan has also been connected to the murder last month of a 21-year-old man.
“He’s heartless and he is cold-blooded and he doesn’t hesitate to take anyone’s life,” said North Miami Police Major Neal Cuevas after Ragan was charged with first degree murder in the death of Luis Perez and possession of a firearm by a violent career criminal.
According to an arrest report, the three gunmen who fired at Perez were looking for him when they met him at 12:02 a.m. at a Motel 7 at 13445 N.W. 7th Ave. Perez was returning to his room on the 2nd floor.
Police say Perez was shot multiple times at point-blank range and the gunmen continued firing while Perez was on the ground. The report notes that Ragan fired two of the shots.
Police say Ragan was captured on the surveillance tape at the Motel 7 firing his weapon along with an accomplice. A 3rd gunman is seen getting out of the car that they took off in: a 1999-2000 model, dark-colored, four-door Nissan Maxima.
Nine-year-old Jaiden Dixon, who was shot in the face by his mother’s ex-boyfriend on Friday, died yesterday at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Doctors said his death was caused by severe brain injuries from the shooting.
Jaiden, a fourth-grader who loved playing outside and who named his pet fish after a candy bar, just wanted to answer the door when he heard a knock on Friday morning, his brother told reporters. When the boy opened it, 47-year-old Danny Thornton, a former boxer who had once lived at the house with Jaiden’s mother, Nicole Fitzpatrick, fired.
Jaiden was Thornton’s first victim in a shooting rampage that injured another of his ex-girlfriends and a Columbus police officer on Friday.
Thornton shot Jaiden around 7:30 a.m. Thirty minutes later, he walked into a dental office on S. Hamilton Road and shot Vicki Vertin, another ex-girlfriend. SWAT officers cornered him around 9:45 a.m. in a Northeast Side Walmart parking lot, not far from the hotels where they think he had been living.
Thornton got out of his car holding a gun, and gunfire erupted.
When it was over, Thornton was dead, and SWAT officer Steve Smith, a 24-year veteran of the Columbus police department, was injured.
Both Vertin and Smith were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. Vertin, 42, initially was listed in critical condition, but police expected her to survive. The hospital would not release information about her yesterday. Smith went home from the hospital yesterday.
Columbus Police Sgt. Rich Weiner said it isn’t clear what injured Smith, but it appeared to be shrapnel. “He’s very lucky,” Weiner said.
PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. — A Dutchess County pharmacist killed his wife and then used a shotgun to kill his two sons and himself in what state police called a “senseless tragedy” they still can’t explain.
Abbas Lodhi first shot Sarwat Lodhi, then killed 13-year-old Mujtabah and 9-year-old Zain, state police Trooper Melissa McMorris said Friday. His body and those of his children were found Thursday morning in their hometown, Pleasant Valley, a 90-minute drive north of New York City.
Sarwat Lodhi’s body was found Friday afternoon by a homeowner along a road 13 miles away in Wappingers Falls, McMorris said.
She said Abbas Lodhi, 49, and his sons died of gunshots to their chests and his wife, 43, may have been killed with the same weapon.
Authorities say the parents moved from Pakistan during the 1990s and became U.S. citizens. Abbas Lodhi was a state-licensed pharmacist since 1993 and recently closed his pharmacy in Hyde Park.
At about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, a worker in a supermarket plaza found the bodies of Abbas Lodhi and fourth-grader Zain in an SUV along with the shotgun. Mujtabah, an eighth-grader, was found at the family’s nearby home, authorities said.
Fayetteville police said a 4-year-old boy playing with a loaded handgun shot and killed himself Saturday morning.
Police responded to a home in the 1600 block of Stanford Court just before 10:45 a.m.
Investigators said Killian Perez got the loaded handgun from on top of a refrigerator and shot himself.
Police said Killian’s father, 32-year-old Jeffery David Perez, was home alone watching the 4-year-old and two twin babies while the mom was in Durham visiting a family member at the hospital.
When officers arrived, police said Perez was frantically trying to save his son’s life.
Perez is a soldier in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg.
But Jeffery David Perez, 32, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to secure a firearm when his 4-year-old son, Killian Perez, died while playing with a handgun in Fayetteville, N.C., last November. Perez, a soldier in the United States Army who was stationed at Fort Bragg, was home alone watching his son and two twin babies when the victim grabbed the loaded handgun from the top of a refrigerator and shot himself.
In the wake of shooting, Fayetteville police said that parents should have a safe in their homes so kids do not confuse a gun for a toy. “Our children sometimes just don’t know the difference and that’s kind of what happened in this case,” Sgt. Steven Bates said.
Officers responded to the west Fayetteville home, at 1608 Stanford Court, shortly before 11 a.m Saturday.
(WMC-TV) – Investigators arrested a 25-year-old man in connection to the death of a principal and her son Friday morning. The suspect is accused of shooting his mother and 12-year-old half-brother to death.
Regis Mister, 25, was living with both the victims in a home on County Road 301 in Mississippi.
Mister reportedly has no previous encounters with police. Although, he was being investigated by the state auditor’s office for possible embezzlement while employed as a deputy for the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Office. Mister, was also a school resource officer, according to DA John Champion
Dr. Carol Lavett Gary, 43, and her son, Patrick Earl Gary, 12, were found dead around 6 a.m.
According to Water Valley School District Superintendent Kim Chrestman, Dr. Gary was a teacher for 12 years before becoming principal at Davidson Elementary School.
Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart says the three bodies found inside an abandoned house Tuesday are the missing family, and tells us all three were shot.
The bodies were found inside an abandoned house off Shelby Road, about a mile from where the family’s car was found over the weekend. The bodies have been taken to the state crime lab.
Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones says, “The sad part is we have a young child who has lost his life and will not be able to grow up to be the person he should have been.”
Forty-two year old Timothy Burns, of Jackson, who has been taken into custody in connection with the case, led authorities to the three bodies early Tuesday morning. Sheriff Jones says Burns will face charges in the case.
Thirty-year-old Atira Hughes Smith, her 7-year-old son Jaidon Hill and Hughes’ husband, 34 year old Laterry Smith, disappeared Friday night. Their car was found upside-down and burned in Copiah County, about a mile from where the bodies were found on Tuesday.
Sheriff Jones says he does not believe the family was in the car when it wrecked.
On Monday, police in Jackson found items in a dumpster at a Shell station at 1133 Raymond Road that were connected to the missing family, including clothing and a photo ID.
Burns led investigators to the bodies, which were found about 4 a.m. Tuesday in an old house not far from where the car was found, he said. All three had been shot, Jones said.
JARVISVILLE, W.Va. — The Harrison County sheriff says a Jarvisville woman accidentally shot and killed her grandson late Sunday night as he slept.
Sheriff Albert Marano said Tina Owens, 57, had gone outside her house at around 11:30 Sunday night after hearing some noises. The sheriff said Owens and her son, who lives next door about 200 yards away, thought there were intruders around their homes tampering with property.
“Tina went outside to investigate, in doing so she brought a 40-caliber pistol with her,” the sheriff said. “Upon hearing what she thought were intruders she fired her 40-caliber several times in an attempt to scare the intruders away. One of the shots went through her son’s residence and struck the victim, William Owens, in the chest while he lay in bed.”
Owens, 11, was sleeping.
The sheriff said the shooting appeared to be accidental. He doesn’t know if any charges will be filed.
A woman who admitted she accidentally shot and killed her grandson will spend the next year on probation.
Last summer, 57-year-old Tina Owens said she thought she heard something or someone outside, so she went on the porch and fired her gun three times to the possible intruders away. One of the bullets went into the trailer below where her grandson, 11-year-old William Owens, was asleep in his bed.
Thursday, both the defense and prosecuting attorneys said no justice would be served by putting Owens in jail.
Tina Owens said that she has to live with this the rest of her life.
The court agreed this was truly a tragic incident.

The gun used in the shooting in Greenwood that left six people dead was one owned by the victim, the sheriff’s office said on Monday.
Deputies said Bryan Sweatt killed three adults and two children along with himself in a murder-suicide at a home off Callison Highway Tuesday. They said Sweatt called 911 to warn them he was planning on “hurting himself” moments before shots were fired.
Deputies said the gun Sweatt used was one of the victim’s but they were unsure how it came into his possession, the sheriff’s office said just over a week after the murders.
Deputies have not released the type of gun used in the shooting at this time, but in the 911 call made before the incident a dispatcher asked Sweatt what type of gun he had and he replied, “a .44.”
While officers were on the way to the scene, according to Greenwood County sheriff’s spokesperson John Long, they received notice from the 911 center that a neighbor called and said two children from the home arrived at the neighbor’s doorstep saying someone had fired shots.
After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Sweatt, SWAT teams went into the home and discovered the six dead. Long said they believe the incident resulted from a domestic dispute.
Davis said at a press conference on Wednesday that the victims were Richard Allen Fields, 51; Melissa Maroney Fields, 49; Chandra Marie Fields, 26; Tariq Kenyon Robinson, 11; and William Asa Robinson, 9.
The sheriff’s office said the gun used in the shooting belonged to Richard Allen Fields.
The sheriff said Sweatt and Chandra Fields had a 7-month-old baby. Sweatt had an issue with his lack of access to the child, according to the sheriff.
Richard Fields and Melissa Fields were the parents of Chandra Fields, the sheriff confirmed. He also said, William and Tariq were nephews of Chandra Fields.
Two other children were in the house at the time of the shooting, the sheriff said. He said they were let go and went to the neighbor’s house.
A seventh-month-old child was carried to safety during the incident that was first reported with a 911 call at 5:54 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff said. The child was one of four children who escaped to another house, Davis said.
At the crime scene, yellow crime tape surrounded the single-story residence, located on a wooded lot. Forensics investigators from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division processed the scene for clues, Davis said.

While officers were on the way to the scene, according to Greenwood County sheriff’s spokesperson John Long, they received notice from the 911 center that a neighbor called and said two children from the home arrived at the neighbor’s doorstep saying someone had fired shots.
After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Sweatt, SWAT teams went into the home and discovered the six dead. Long said they believe the incident resulted from a domestic dispute.
Davis said at a press conference on Wednesday that the victims were Richard Allen Fields, 51; Melissa Maroney Fields, 49; Chandra Marie Fields, 26; Tariq Kenyon Robinson, 11; and William Asa Robinson, 9.
The sheriff’s office said the gun used in the shooting belonged to Richard Allen Fields.
The sheriff said Sweatt and Chandra Fields had a 7-month-old baby. Sweatt had an issue with his lack of access to the child, according to the sheriff.
Richard Fields and Melissa Fields were the parents of Chandra Fields, the sheriff confirmed. He also said, William and Tariq were nephews of Chandra Fields.
Two other children were in the house at the time of the shooting, the sheriff said. He said they were let go and went to the neighbor’s house.
A seventh-month-old child was carried to safety during the incident that was first reported with a 911 call at 5:54 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff said. The child was one of four children who escaped to another house, Davis said.
At the crime scene, yellow crime tape surrounded the single-story residence, located on a wooded lot. Forensics investigators from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division processed the scene for clues, Davis said.
The father of a 12-year-old boy killed Saturday in an accidental shooting says his son knew about gun safety.
Daniel Ray Dixon Jr. told the Newsplex on Sunday he thought his son was with his mother. Dixon said he had owned a number of guns prior to and taught his son about how to use one safely.
The boy was killed in an accidental shooting at a friend’s house in Pratts late Saturday afternoon. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing.
Madison County Public Schools superintendent Matt Eberhardt said grief counselors and psychologists will be available for students and staff on Monday.

A 12-year-old boy has died after a potential accidental shooting, according to a press release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The release says deputies were called to a wooded area in the Pratts section of Madison County shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. The initial report was for an accidental shooting involving two juveniles.
The release says the 12-year-old was found dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
Daniel Castrillon-Oreggo seemed to be coming to grips with the end of his marriage.
His wife, Luz Jimenez, moved out of the couple’s home in the Trillium development earlier this month and filed for divorce last week. Then the 39-year-old learned she was already seeing someone new.
On Friday, his 7-year-old son, Sebastian, made a startling statement to reassure his father: Don’t worry. You’re still my dad. The other guy is just my stepdad.
“I think that’s what really pushed him over the edge,” said Jose Guerrero, a friend of Castrillon-Oreggo’s who was there during the encounter.
At some point between Friday night and Sunday evening, Castrillon-Oreggo fatally shot both of his children — Susana, 8, and Sebastian — at his home, then turned the gun on himself, Hernando Sheriff Al Nienhuis said Monday during a news conference in front of the house on Nodding Shade Drive.

A case of domestic violence involving a soon-to-be divorcing couple ended tragically with the deaths of two young children and their father, according to Hernnado County Sheriff Al Nienhuis.
The sheriff said during a news conference Monday that Daniel Castrillon, 39, shot and killed his two children, Susana, 8, and Sebastian, 7, while they were sleeping during the weekend in their Brooksville home before turning the gun on himself.
The dad left a note saying he was distraught over the divorce.
On Monday, October 21, 2013, approximately 2:45 PM, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call concerning an unresponsive child in the 1200 block of Scott Drive in Vidor.
Upon arrival, Deputies met with the caller and located a child at the residence who appeared to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. According to information obtained on scene, a five year old boy was left with a babysitter at the child’s home in the 1200 block of Roberts Rd., just one street over from Scott Drive. The babysitter heard a noise in another room of the residence and discovered the child with the injury. There was no phone access available at the residence. The babysitter carried the child to the child’s grandparent’s address on Scott Dr. where emergency personnel were contacted at that time. The preliminary investigation appears to be that the shooting was accidental.
Justice of the Peace Precinct #4, Judge Price, was summoned to the scene. An autopsy was ordered and the child was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue.
No arrests have been made and this investigation is ongoing.
****UPDATE**** 10/21/2013-The name of the child was withheld previously pending all family notifications. Notifications have since been made. The five year old boy’s name is John Read.

The ongoing investigation into the accidental shooting death of five year old John Allen Read has led the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Investigators to file a case with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, charging the baby sitter, Melissa Ann Ringhardt, white female, date of birth 9-12-1994, of Vidor, with Abandoning or Endangering a Child-State Jail Felony PC 22.041.
Melissa Ringhardt had been living with the Read family in their home for the past few months. On Monday, October 21, 2013, Ringhardt was left in the home with five year old John Read and another 6 month old child belonging to Kayla and Joe Read. Ringhardt stated to Investigators that she was carrying a handgun on her person in the home that day because she was scared being at home alone. The handgun was a semi-automatic .40 caliber pistol. Ringhardt left the handgun on a coffee table in the living room and went to the bedroom to take a nap. When she was awakened from her nap, she noticed she didn’t see John around the house. She began looking until she found him deceased in the living room with the fatal gunshot wound. The six month old child was not harmed. Ringhardt carried both children to the grandparent’s house to get help.
Investigators were able to obtain an Arrest Warrant for Ringhardt. On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, around 3:00 p.m., Ringhardt was located at an address in the 1600 block of Willowbend in the Vidor area. She was arrested without incident and transported to the Orange County Jail Facility. She was booked for Abandoning or Endangering a Child-State Jail Felony PC 22.041. Bond has not yet been set.
The baby sitter of a 5-year-old boy who died Monday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound allegedly told authorities she’d been high on marijuana that day.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in her arrest, Melissa Ringhardt had been “intoxicated throughout the day due to the consumption of marijuana” the day she allegedly left a .40-caliber handgun on a coffee table when she went take a nap in another room.
The affidavit states Ringhardt said she was carrying the gun “as a form of protection” the day she was watching 5-year-old John Read and another 6-month old child at a home in the 1200 block of Roberts Road in Vidor.

New Orleans police have arrested the suspected gunman in a double shooting in eastern New Orleans last weekend that took the life of a 44-year-old grandmother and wounded her 4-year-old grandson.
Thomas Lam, 23, was taken into police custody Friday at 3 p.m. while working in the 5000 block of Bragg Street, NOPD spokesman officer Garry Flot said. Police conducted a search of Lam’s home and discovered a handgun, Flot said.
Helene Jackson-Smith died after being shot several times on Sunday (Oct. 6) and her 4-year-old grandson’s head was grazed by a bullet during the shooting in a bedroom of their house in the 13000 block of Maple Wood Drive. Jackson-Smith was dead at the scene and her grandson was taken to the hospital where he remains in stable condition, Flot said.

Gwinnett County police said three people were fatally shot and another person was injured after a gunman went on a rampage inside a Snellville home.
Angelina Benton, 34, her son, Joseph McDonald, 12, and 19-year-old family friend Raynard Daniel were killed in the shooting.
Justin Cato, 23, who is Benton’s boyfriend, survived the shooting.
“Our shooting victim, Mr. Cato, who survived, was outside, and Ms. Benton was discovered outside deceased,” said Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith.
Police said Benton allowed the suspect, Robert Bell, 33, and his wife to move into their home because they had nowhere to live.
“We’re not sure what provoked this or caused him [Bell] to act this way. It seems it just came out of the blue,” said Smith.
Some sort of altercation started the shooting, according to police.
The shooting took place on Anderson Livsey Lane at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police found Bell’s truck in the driveway.
The District Attorney in Gwinnett County announced Wednesday he will seek the death penalty for Robert Bell. Bell is accused of killing a woman and her son and godson from Albany last September in Snellville.
The death penalty is exactly what accused triple murderer Robert Bell should get according to Tracy Benton.
“I don’t feel that man had any conscious doing what he done, he didn’t take any regard of his own life, let alone my family’s life,” Benton said. “He is a coward in my opinion, you know what I’m saying, by that, he gets what he deserve.”
Angelina Benton, her 12 year old son, Joseph McDonald and Benton’s godson, 19-year -old Raynord Daniel were gunned down at their home in Snellville on September 15th. Benton allowed Bell and his wife to stay with them when they fell on hard times. Tracy still can’t believe it happened.
A boy and his father are dead, and his mother is in critical condition after a triple shooting that police are calling a murder-suicide.
It all took place on the 3800 block of I Street in Juniata, right near Erie Avenue.
Investigators say a violent had argument erupted between 48-year-old Jake Harkin, Sr. and his wife, 41-year-old Jessica Harkin.
According to police, their 14-year-old daughter witnessed the fight, called police and locked herself in a room.
“Dad was having some type of physical altercation with mom, he then pulls out a gun and shoots her. He went into his son’s bedroom, he’s asleep, he takes the gun, fires one time at point blank range then turns the gun on himself,” said Capt. James Clark.
When police arrived around 12:45 a.m., they heard four gunshots and ran in through the front door.
On the second floor landing officers found Jessica shot twice in the back of the head. She was losing a lot of blood and was rushed to the hospital.
Officers then discovered 10-year-old Jake Harkin, Jr. lying in bed, shot once in his head. He was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m.
Harkin Sr. was found dead on the floor next to him – a handgun by his side.
Investigators say police have responded to domestic violence calls at the home in the past, and that Harkin Sr. is no stranger to police, with dozens of prior arrests for a wide variety of offenses.
“A lot of past domestic problems between the two. There was no domestic order in effect. At the end of the day it’s very sad that she got shot and the 10-year-old died in his sleep,” said Capt. Clark.
Jessica remains hospitalized in critical condition, but is conscious and talking.
CARLSBAD — A Carlsbad boy is accused of fatally shooting his cousin late Wednesday night. Carlsbad police said Michael Schultz, 15, shot Jeremy Hatfield, 12, around 9 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 400 block of North Olive Street.
Schultz reportedly told officers responding to a call around 9 p.m. Wednesday that his cousin, also known as Jeremy Romero Martinez, had been the victim of a drive-by shooting. Officers found Hatfield with his sister, Destiny Romero, on the front yard of their Olive Street home, suffering from a gun shot wound to his abdomen, according to a news release from the Carlsbad Police Department.
Hatfield was transported to Carlsbad Medical Center and pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m. from his wound.
A later statement from police by Schultz reportedly revealed that he and Hatfield had been talking outside when he pointed what he believed to be an unloaded gun at the boy and fired.
Schultz reportedly said that Hatfield was in possession of a toy gun during the incident.
Family members indicated to police investigators that Schultz and his cousin were close friends and no animosity existed between the two.
Schultz has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, unlawful possession of a handgun and tampering with evidence. He is being held at the Eddy County Juvenile Detention Center.
CARSLBAD >> A 16-year-old Carlsbad boy was ordered Friday to spend two years on supervised probation for the September shooting death of his cousin, 12-year-old Jeremy Hatfield.
Michael Schultz had earlier entered a plea of no contest to charges of involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and possession of a handgun.
Troopers from the Carlisle barracks are currently on scene of a shooting at a house on Broad Street in South Hampton Township, Cumberland County.
This shooting happened Sunday about 1 p.m. and involved two young brothers who live at the house, police say. One boy was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries. Neighbors say the boy who was shot is an eight-year-old.
SHIPPENSBURG – Details about what was found and seized from the house that 8-year-old Alex Pfaff was shot in on Sept. 1 have been released.
Matthew Pfaff, his 6-year-old brother, shot him with a revolver in the Shippensburg area home, while their mother slept. Alex has since died from the resulting injuries.
According to the inventory report, police found a revolver that is believed to be the one used by Matthew, a rifle, a .22 caliber magazine with ammunition, marijuana pipe, grinder, two bottles for prescription medication, 11 other pill bottles and a weekly pill container. Prescription medications at the scene were oxycodone and ondansetron.
Alex had been shot in the head by Matthew while their mother slept in the same room, according to the affidavit.
CARLISLE — A Greencastle mother charged in the death of her son 6-year-old son was sentenced to time served Thursday.
Jessica R. Pfaff, 32, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Thursday and was sentenced to nine to 18 months in Cumberland County Prison. She had been in prison since Jan. 8, making the sentence a time-served sentence.
Pfaff was charged Jan. 9 with felony involuntary manslaughter, two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after the incident that occurred on Sept. 1, 2013, in Southampton Township, inside the home of Pfaff’s boyfriend.
A 33-year-old man has been arraigned in connection with the murder of 12-year-old Kenis Green.
Alvin Demetrius Conwell is charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm.
The 12-year-old boy was killed in a shooting incident August 31. According to the prosecutor, it started after Conwell had gotten into a verbal altercation with 25-year-old Greg Owens in front of a home on Rutherford Street.
Conwell reportedly came back later and opened fire from a car, killing the boy and wounding Owens.
The bills were mounting. The lawsuits wouldn’t stop. The family’s business was ruined. And 53-year-old Joseph Williams had faced an overwhelming sense of pressure in recent months to provide for his wife and children, his attorney said.
“Every time he felt like he was getting ahead, he felt like there was a hurdle he had to cross,” said Williams’s attorney, Will Farris of Farris & Farris in Wilson. “And it caught up with him.”
Police said Tuesday that Williams shot his 10-year-old son Bobby and himself before setting fire to a back bedroom of his Nashville duplex Monday afternoon. Autopsies showed that the man and boy died from gunshot wounds and severe burns, Nashville Police Chief Thomas Bashore said.
Williams died on the way to the hospital and Bobby Williams died at the University of North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill. Police said Williams set fire to the back bedroom of the 239 N. Lumber St. duplex shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday.
MANCHESTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire man used a handgun to shoot his 9-year-old son to death before taking his own life during supervised visitation at a YWCA office in the state’s largest city, officials said Sunday.
An adult supervisor was present when Muni Savyon, 54, of Manchester, produced a handgun and shot 9-year-old Joshua Savyon of Amherst before shooting himself, the attorney general’s office said. Reports of gunfire shortly after 10 a.m. brought a heavy response from police officers who set up a perimeter.
The father, who was depressed after returning from his brother’s funeral in Israel, sent an email to a friend suggesting he was suicidal before the shootings, said Rabbi Levi Krinsky of Chabad Lubavitch in Manchester. Krinsky said he’d seen the man last week and had no concerns about his well-being.
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -An army veteran, who also worked as a special education teacher and once performed as a Dallas Maverick ManiAAC, will be charged with four counts of capital murder, according to law enforcement officials from the Dallas and DeSoto Police Departments.
Erbie Bowser, 44, is accused of fatally shooting four women, and injuring four children during two separate shootings at homes in Dallas and DeSoto.
When the shootings were done Wednesday night, there were two slain women and two wounded minors at each location — one in Dallas and the other in DeSoto, roughly 15 miles to the south.
According to police, Bowser began his shooting spree around 10:30 p.m. at a home in the 7100 block of Long Canyon Trail in Dallas. Two people, 43-year-old Toya Smith and her 17-year-old daughter Tasmia Allen were killed. Police say Smith and Bowser were in a dating relationship, but Bowser was not related to anyone in the home. Two children were also shot. Smith’s 14-year-old son remains in critical condition and 17-year-old Dasmin Mitchell, a family friend visiting for the summer, is recovering from her injuries after surgery.
Bowser then traveled to a home about seven miles away in the 100 block of Galleria Drive in DeSoto. There, he tossed some type of explosive device into the home, police said, before opening fire again. In this shooting, police confirm Zina Bowser, 47, and her daughter Neima Williams, 28, were killed. Bowser was a nurse at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. An unidentified 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old boy remain in critical condition. Police say the suspect is the estranged husband of Zina Bowser and used to live at that home. He had no biological relation to Williams or the two children in the home, according to police.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, who has led a high-profile crusade against domestic violence, said Friday that he was “devastated” by the shootings and said that he would maintain his efforts, echoing previous description of domestic abusers.
“These are terrorists, these are people that are creating terror in our backyard,” Rawlings said. “And if we looked at them in that way, we would move heaven and earth to stop this.”
According to court records, Teal-Bowser filed for divorce from Bowser on Jan. 20, 2011. The order is still pending.
However, a protective order includes an affidavit detailing a violent incident at her home on Galleria Drive four days after that. According to the document, Bowser arrived home at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. Teal-Bowser asked whether Bowser was moving out prior to the hearing date.
Bowser refused, the document says, saying “the only thing he was going to do is give me my ring back.” Bowser allegedly said, “I don’t have nothing to lose and if you take anything from me you are going to see what happens.”
Teal-Bowser replied, “What’s going to happen?”
At this point, Bowser allegedly approached his estranged wife as she stood in the bathroom wearing a robe. The document says he pushed her with his stomach and put his finger to her face before saying, “I will bury you.”
The affidavit says he walked out of the bathroom and pulled a knife out of the nightstand near the bed. He flipped the knife open and said, “Call the police and I will execute your kids,” the document says.
“Call the police and I am going to execute whoever is up there,” he allegedly said from their first-floor bedroom.
Teal-Bowser asked whether he was going to kill her “No,” he replied, “I’m going to cut your a– up but I am going to execute the kids.”
The document says he put the knife back in the drawer and exited the bedroom. Teal-Bowser grabbed her keys out of her purse, picked up a phone and followed him into the family room. She snuck past him and called to the boys, who were in the second floor of the home. The document says Bowser sat down on the stairs while Teal-Bowser called 911.
As she spoke to an operator, Bowser repeatedly yelled, “She is lying! That’s a lie!” The boys sat at the top of the stairs as Bowser blocked their exit, the affidavit says.
“All of a sudden, he jumped up and ran to the master bedroom and I told the boys to, ‘Come fast! Let’s go!’ And we ran out the front door and the police were outside,” the document reads.
The boys ran to the sidewalk as the door opened behind them. The protective order says Bowser was arrested that night.
WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A 9-year-old boy killed in an accidental shooting at his grandfather’s North Texas home was visiting from Pennsylvania as part of a summer vacation.
Clay County Sheriff Kenny Lemons said Monday that Daniel Wiley of Harrisburg was killed when an unsecured shotgun discharged Friday, striking the boy in the face.
A probable cause affidavit says the boy’s grandfather left the home in rural Clay County, about 120 miles northwest of Dallas, to purchase beer. Another grandchild, a 13-year-old boy, told deputies the gun discharged when he handed it to Daniel.
The grandfather, 56-year-old Danny Eugene Bowman, told authorities the weapon is always loaded and left unsecured. Bowman was arrested on a charge of child endangerment. He was jailed over the weekend and subsequently posted bond.
His grandfather is out on 50,000 dollars bond after 9-year-old Daniel Wiley was shot and killed Friday evening. It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Whitaker Road east of Lake Arrowhead.
MOUNT VERNON — A Sedro-Woolley man pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree manslaughter for the July 21 shooting death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son.
Trevor Braymiller, 25, was sentenced to almost eight years in prison — almost twice as long as Dwayne Kerrigan was alive. The child accidentally shot himself with Braymiller’s gun, prosecutors said.
Braymiller had been on the run since around 7 a.m. Sunday.
BATTLE CREEK, Neb. (AP) A northeast Nebraska family is mourning the death of a boy killed in an accidental shooting. Lawson Miles Walz was just four days from his 7th birthday. He died around noon on Saturday in his home in a rural Battle Creek area.
Services will be Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk with visitation Tuesday night. An obituary for Lawson says he completed Kindergarten at St. John’s Lutheran School in Battle Creek. It also says he was passionate about baseball, an eager outdoor lover and enthusiastic wrestler. This past year Lawson was proud to share with everyone his first place wresting trophies. Lawson treasured growing up on a farm where he could grow his sweet corn and actively participate in all things a farm boy loves. Lawson shared his family’s passion of the outdoors by going camping, fishing and hunting at every opportunity. He was known for his constant and contagious smile and special knack for playing practical jokes. Lawson cherished every moment with his family, classmates, teammates and friends.
11:54 AM: An 8-year-old girl who was fatally shot in East Oakland on Wednesday night would have been a third-grader at Fruitvale Elementary School in the fall, an Oakland schools spokesman said today.
Troy Flint, of the Oakland Unified School District, identified the girl as Alaysha Carradine.
Oakland police said Alaysha was one of four people hit by gunfire when someone fired shots into an apartment at 3440 Wilson St. in the city’s Dimond District at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The other three victims are all listed in stable condition at hospitals.
Flint said one of the other people who was shot was 7-year-old Amara York, who is scheduled to start second grade at Fruitvale Elementary School this fall.
Police said the other victims are a woman and a 4-year-old boy, but haven’t released their names. Investigators have also not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
This morning, there were seven bullet holes in the screen door of the apartment where the shooting happened.
That unit is one of five apartments at the white two-story building on Wilson Street, just east of Interstate Highway 580 near Fruitvale Avenue.
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley alleged that reputed gang member Darnell Williams, a 22-year-old Oakland man, fired multiple shots into an apartment in the 3400 block of Wilson Street at about 11:15 p.m. on July 17 in retaliation for the shooting death of 26-year-old Jermaine Davis in the 1800 block of Derby Street in Berkeley about four hours earlier, at 6:52 p.m.

Belleville police spokesman Mark Heffernan tells the Belleville News-Democrat that the shooting happened around 11 pm, Tuesday at a home during a family barbecue.
Three children were alone upstairs. Authorities say the handgun didn’t belong to the owners of the house but may have come from someone living there temporarily.
The 11-year old died before reaching the hospital. The Saint Clair County Coroner’s Office identified him as Leonard J. Smith Jr.
An autopsy yesterday showed he died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police say smith was a resident of East Saint Louis and was visiting the family in Belleville. Saint Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly is reviewing the investigation.
According to Detective Mark Heffernan, a police spokesman, officers and EMS responded to a residence in the first block of North 98th Street Tuesday at 10:55 p.m. in reference to a child being shot. EMS transported the victim, 11-year-old boy Leonard Smith Jr. of East St. Louis, to Belleville Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say a 9-year-old Raymond boy died after being shot at a home in Copiah County.
Coroner Ellis Stewart identified the victim as Isaac Tervino.
Undersheriff Derrick Cubit tells WLBT TV Tervino was with two other children in a bedroom of the home on Highway 18 in the northwest part of the county. Cubit said the two other boys were brothers and Tervino was their cousin. The adults were reportedly in another room of the house eating.
Cubit says one of the other children found a gun, picked it up and fired, striking Tervino above the right eyebrow.
He says the victim was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he died.
A 9-year-old is dead after he is accidentally shot by a 10-year-old in Copiah County. The county coroner says Isaac Trevino was shot in the head late Tuesday night. The accident happened in Hermanville off of Highway 18 around 9 p.m.
One of the other children was holding a gun that went off and struck the 9-year-old, Twiner said.
The gun, which did not have a lock on it, belonged to the boy’s grandparents, Chief Deputy Derrick Cubit said.
“It was actually sitting out in the open in the grandparents’ bedroom,” Cubit said.
FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A jury has found a 19-year-old Flint man guilty of first degree murder for gunning down two men and then a 9-year-old boy who witnessed the killings.
The Genesee County Circuit Court jury convicted Deonte I. Gray for the July 15, 2013, shootings of 9-year-old Trashawn Macklin, 25-year-old James R. Allen Jr. and 22-year-old Akeem Easterling.
Authorities say the killings began with a dispute between Gray and Easterling at Park West Apartment.
Gray faces an automatic penalty of life in prison without possibility of parole when he’s sentenced March 2.
Defense lawyer Major White has said the killings weren’t premeditated and didn’t rise to the level of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors earlier dropped a fourth murder charge against Gray in the 2013 killing of 29-year-old Greg Watkins because a witness disappeared.
Police say the boy died Monday morning in an ambulance after a maintenance worker found him and the bodies of 25-year-old John Allen Jr. and 23-year-old Hakeem Easterling about 8 a.m. at the Park West apartment complex.

Police officials have identified the homicide victim as Tyrese Short who lived on Switzer Avenue in the North Pointe neighborhood in St. Louis. Cops say the boy was shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a car with his father and two other males, ages eighteen and 22.
They were driving at around 3:30 a.m. on Goodfellow Boulevard by Laura Avenue when an SUV allegedly drove up behind them and a shooter with a handgun opened fire, shattering the rear window — and hitting the young boy in the back of the head.
Three handguns were found inside the room where a 4-year-old boy was fatally shot.
Reports said the boy, Ray-twon Briggs, 4, died after being shot at about 11 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Fairgreen Avenue. The Mahoning County Coroner said Monday Briggs died of a perforating gunshot wound to the head and died within seconds of being shot.
“There is equally sufficient evidence from the scene and autopsy to suggest either an accident or homicide,” a statement from the coroner’s office said. Coroner’s investigators will refrain from ruling the manner of the death until the investigation is completed, the statement said.
The boy’s grandmother told police the boy was playing with one of the guns and fatally shot himself through the head while two other children, ages 1 and 5, were inside the room with Briggs.
The State Police are still investigating what is being called a double murder – suicide in Elk County on July 4th. The Ridgway State Police continue investigating the deaths of seven year old Brian and eight year old Nicole David and their father, thirty two year old Brian David Senior. The police believe the father shot both children in their Horton Township home and then turned the gun on himself. The viewing for the two children will reportedly be held tomorrow in Brockway with their funerals set for Wednesday morning in DuBois.23
BROCKWAY, Pa. (AP) — A funeral home viewing has been scheduled for two children who state police believe were killed by their father before he took his own life at a home in west-central Pennsylvania.
Tuesday’s viewings for 8-year-old Nicole David and 7-year-old Brian Keith David Jr. will be followed by a funeral Wednesday in Brockway.
That’s not far from Horton Township, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, where state police believe Brian Keith David Sr. shot both children before shooting himself last Thursday. The investigation continues, but police believe the incident was a murder-suicide.
A gunman opened fire at a crowd of several hundred spectators at an informal July 4th fireworks show hosted by a local party store, killing a 33-year-old father and injuring his two children and four other people.
Several hundred people had gathered in front of Perry’s Palace Liquor Store at North Perry and Chamberlain streets about 11 p.m. Thursday. After a fight broke out at the store, a suspect fired shots into the crowd, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office investigators confirm that a 33-year-old Pontiac man was killed after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
A 35-year-old Pontiac man was arrested at about 4 a.m. Friday, deputies said. He was taken into custody at his home after several witnesses on the scene identified him. Detectives continue to seek warrants and investigate.
The victim’s 6- and 12-year-old children also were injured in the shooting. His 6-year-old son was shot in the head, officials report. The boy suffered injuries that were not life threatening and was transported to Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where he remains in stable condition.
The man’s 12-year-old daughter suffered an injury to her forearm. She was treated at McLaren Oakland Hospital and released.
Two 22-year-old women also were shot in their lower legs. A 28-year-old man was shot once in the hip and forearm, and a 23-year-old man was shot once in the leg.
CHESTERFIELD — Chesterfield County police are still trying to determine who’s to blame for the July Fourth shooting death of a 7-year-old boy. Investigators believe someone had been firing randomly in the air and a stray bullet struck the boy in the head.
Brendon Mackey, 7, was walking with his father when he suddenly fell. It was shortly before 9 p.m., as a crowd awaited a fireworks show at Swift Creek Reservoir in the Brandermill community, according to police.
ELIZABETHTON (AP) – The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has filed a reckless homicide petition against a 13-year-old boy in the BB gun death of a four-year-old.
The Johnson City Press reported the petition was filed in Juvenile Court after consultation with the district attorney general’s office.
Sheriff Chris Mathes scheduled a 2 p.m. news conference Wednesday to talk about the case.
The incident on July 2 killed Coty Cox. Investigators said the victim, the 13-year-old and a 10-year-old were alone in a mobile home.
The older boys took the victim to a neighbor’s home and said he had been bouncing on the bed and struck his head on a dresser. The neighbor called 911.
An autopsy revealed a BB in the child’s skull. A high-powered BB gun was found at the scene.
Cox suffered one shot that took his life. The incident happened just before 1:00 PM Tuesday at a trailer off Lover’s Lane in Elizabethton when Cox was left alone with his 10-year-old brother and 13-year-old cousin.
