OAKLAND — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and will be prosecuted as an adult in the fatal shooting on New Year’s Eve of a 21-year-old woman in East Oakland, authorities said Tuesday.

Authorities said Dashawn Cooper is charged with killing Ashlee Walker, of Oakland, a college student and fast-food restaurant worker. She was shot while in a car with three other people who had stopped about 9:15 p.m. Dec. 31 in the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue to meet someone.

Cooper is also charged with three counts of attempted murder because there were other people in the car, none of whom were wounded.

Mass Shooting – Killed – Ashley Carpenter (Barberton, OH)

Ashley Carpenter2

Two men have been arrested in connection with the New Year’s Eve shooting deaths of a Barberton father and his two teenage children.

Michael Deon Hendon, 22, and Eric Donta Hendon, 30, both of Akron, were arrested Friday on three counts each of aggravated murder.

Additional charges, including a potential death penalty specification indictment, will be considered when the case is reviewed later this month by a Summit County grand jury.

The arrests came on the same day that John Kohler, the Barberton father whose home was targeted by armed robbers on New Year’s Eve, died of apparent gunshot wounds.

He was shot in the home invasion burglary that also claimed the life of his 18-year-old stepdaughter, Ashley Carpenter, and his son, David Kohler Carpenter, 14.

Kohler’s girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship, 38, survived the shooting and is recovering at an area hospital.

Autopsies this week showed that Ashley died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Her brother, David, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He also suffered defensive wounds to his arms, reports show. They were found together in a back bedroom.

The haunting 911 call from a Barberton woman paints a picture of the aftermath of a shooting New Year’s Eve that left her and her boyfriend wounded and his two teenage children dead.

“Help, help,” a wounded Ronda Blankenship pleads to a dispatcher in the conversation released Thursday by Southwest Summit Communications. “I’m bleeding everywhere … my boyfriend is here. I have two kids here … Help, help, help. Oh God.”

The teens were visiting their father, John Kohler, 42, at his 7th Street Northeast home on New Year’s Eve.

His girlfriend, Rhonda Blankenship, 38, was also shot, but survived.

A call for help was made around 6:50 p.m.

AKRON, Ohio — One of two brothers accused of killing three people and shooting a fourth during a home invasion robbery in Barberton is mentally unfit for the death penalty, a judge ruled on Monday.

Michael Hendon, 23, of Akron, still faces aggravated murder charges in the Dec. 31, 2013 attack. Summit County Judge Amy Corrigal Jones ruled that Hendon mental disabilities barred him from being executed under state and federal laws.

Hendon is scheduled for a court hearing Tuesday to determine how the case will proceed.

Hendon and his brother, Eric Hendon, 32, are accused of breaking into a 7th Street S.W. home in order to steal drugs and money, according to police.

Double Shooting – Killed – Achievia Upshaw (Columbus, GA)

Achievia Upshaw1

Shots fired during a possible attempted burglary at a Veterans Parkway shopping center Tuesday has left one woman dead, one in critical condition and investigators searching for a third suspect, Columbus police said.

Police said Achievia Upshaw, 21, and Deaisa Ransom, 24, were shot at the Courtesy Shuttle at 5870 Veterans Parkway, just before the West Britt David Road intersection during a burglary attempt.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Upshaw was fatally shot in her lower back. She was pronounced dead at 8:21 a.m. at Midtown Medical Center, almost two hours after the 6:30 a.m. shooting. An autopsy on Upshaw’s body is scheduled for Thursday in Atlanta.

Ransom was in critical condition at the hospital. Police said she fled on foot from the scene toward the back-end of the nearby Brittwood Apartments.

Both women were shot near the business’ front door. A Courtesy Shuttle van, parked immediately facing the door, was towed away from the scene with a small bullet hole in its front windshield.

Police Lt. John McMichael said the shooter, a part-owner of the business with his fiancee, was inside sleeping when he “heard the crash of the glass breaking” and confronted the pair.

Someone threw a large object through the front door of the building. Police responded around 6:30 a.m. after the fiancée called 911, police said.

“(The women) were attempting a burglary of the business,” said Maj. Gene Hillhouse.

A black SUV was also involved, McMichael said; it was towed away from the scene along with the van.

Upshaw was fatally shot by business owner Kenneth Hayes while she allegedly attempted to burgle the business, reportedly accompanied by Xavius Donnell Table, 21, and Deaisa Ransom, 24.

During a Monday Recorder’s Court hearing, Sgt. Joseph Hart said Hayes told police he heard the sound of glass breaking during the burglary, and grabbed his Smith & Wesson hand gun to investigate. The part-owner saw one suspect in the store, but was unable to give a clear description of the suspect.

Double Murder/Suicide – Killed – Akesia Jones (Louisburg, NC)

Akesia Jones1

A preliminary autopsy report suggests that Ricky Junior Toney, one of the suspects in a Dec. 31 double homicide in Franklin County, died of a self-inflicted wound, according to Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams.

Toney, 34, and his brother, Joey Lamont Kearney, 16, both of Franklin County, led law enforcement officers on a manhunt that covered areas of Franklin and Vance counties before ending in southwestern Warren County.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on West River Road in Franklinton at 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 to the scene of what was believed to be a domestic dispute. According to the sheriff office’s report, there was no answer at the door when deputies arrived. Deputies were able to enter the residence through an unsecured door and found broken glass on the bedroom floor, blood pooling at the base of the bathroom door, and a mirror in the bathroom that appeared to have been shattered by a gunshot.

According to the report, the bodies of a woman and her teenage daughter were found in the bathroom. They later were identified as Akesia Michelle Toney, 37, Ricky Junior Toney’s estranged wife, and Brianna Nicole Jones, 16.

Relatives discovered the bodies of four family members, including two children with multiple gunshot wounds, inside a Fontana, Calif. home after what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Police obtained a search warrant overnight and are continuing the investigation Tuesday morning at the home in the 7300 block of Palmetto Avenue. Authorities received a call from a 16-year-old boy who said his family members had been injured or possibly killed in the house, according to Fontana police Sgt. Doug Imhof.

“We located four bodies, two children, a female about 12 years old, a male about 10 years old, a female victim adult 35 to 40 (years old) and a male about the same age,” Imhof said. “It appears as though they all lived there.”

The victims were identified as 38 year-old Ramon Miranda, 34 year-old Silvia Miranda, 10 year-old Rayna Miranda, and 12 year-old Ramon Miranda Jr., according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.

Silvia, Rayna and Ramon Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. The man, Ramon Miranda, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.

At about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Fontana police officers were called to the home in the 7300 block of Palmetto Avenue, where they discovered the bodies of Ramon Miranda, 38, and Silvia Miranda, 34, and their son Ramon Jr., 12, and daughter Rayna, 10, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.

Killed – Nicole Grier (Lauderhill, FL)

Nicole Grier2

A suspect has been arrested in the murder of a teen mother who was shot and killed in front of her infant daughter in Lauderhill.

Jalil Allen, 26, was arrested Sunday and charged with premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in the death of 19-year-old Nicole Grier, Lauderhill Police said.

According to Lauderhill Police, Grier had just picked up her child at a babysitter’s home in the 3300 block of Northwest 18th Street when she was murdered on Dec. 30. The young mom was placing her little boy in his car seat when police say she was gunned down in the driveway. Grier’s father insists he does not know the suspect, nor does he believe his daughter was the target.

A young mother gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Lauderhill appears to have been the victim of a feud, according to a police report.

It’s unclear, however, whether Nicole Grier, 19, was part of the feud or an innocent victim.

Lauderhill police on Monday released a heavily redacted arrest report for Hallandale Beach resident Jalil La’Quentin Allen, 26, who is facing one count of premeditated murder in connection with Grier’s death.

“We actually had an officer in the area on an unrelated call, an alarm call, who actually did hear a series of shots,” Lauderhill Lt. Greg Solowsky said of the shooting, which happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of Northwest 18th Street.

Double Murder – Killed – Tacara C. Williams (Metairie, LA)

Tacara C. Williams

Two gunmen opened fire in the parking lot of a Metairie apartment complex early Monday, killing two people in what authorities said was a drug-related crime. The gunfire erupted in the predawn hours and sent parents running to protect their kids as bullets struck a nearby residence.

The people killed were identified as Tacara C. Williams, 25, and Demektric Whitfield-Anderson, 29, both of Memphis, Tenn. A third person in the car at the time was unharmed.

The gunfire sent nearby parents running to protect their kids. A bullet struck an apartment window, cracking it but not injuring the 7-year-old boy sleeping in the room.

Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies were searching for two assailants who started shooting shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.

The driver, Whitfield-Anderson, was shot multiple times and died at East Jefferson General Hospital. Williams, the woman in the passenger seat died at the scene. A woman in the back seat survived unharmed and was being questioned by detectives, Boyd said.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman Glen Boyd, a man and two women were staying at the Super 8 on Clearview Parkway when the man either made or received a phone call leading the three people to drive to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.

Boyd said that two men approached the car and started talking to Demektric Whitfield-Anderson, who was in the drivers seat. The Whitefield-Anderson then began to back up the car in an attempt to leave the scene when the two men opened fire on the car.

Boyd said Whitfield-Andersen was shot multiple times and taken to East Jefferson General Hospital, where he died. Tacara C. Williams, the front passenger seat, died in the car.

A second woman was in the back seat and wasn’t injured, Boyd said. Both victims were from Memphis, Tennessee.

A second suspect has been booked and charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Demekrtic Anderson-Whitfield aka Memphis rapper Meechy Meech.

Jason “Jay” Thomas of New Orleans, has surrendered, according to Nola, after being wanted in connection with the double homicide shooting which occurred on December 30th in Metairie apartment complex in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, a part of New Orleans metro-area.

Demekrtic Anderson-Whitfield aka Meechy Meech along with Tacara Moss-Williams were both shot and killed after setting up a meeting by phone which took place at the apartment complex just a few blocks from the motel in which they were staying in.

Killed – Bethany Lytle (Taft, CA)

Bethany Lytle

A woman from Taft was shot and killed after she failed to drop a dagger she was threatening deputies with, according to Kern County Sheriff’s Department deputies.

On Sunday at about 7:40 p.m., deputies from the Taft Substation were sent to a home in the 800 block of Filmore Street in response to an unknown situation.

While deputies were driving to the location, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center told deputies that the resident, 31-year-old Bethany Lytle of Taft had an active no bail arrest warrant for a Sheriff’s parole violation.

When deputies arrived at the location, they said they spoke to a man who told deputies Lytle was brandishing a knife, breaking picture frames and other household items inside the home.

The man also told deputies Lytle had to be held down on the ground while 911 was called.

Deputies went into the home to check the welfare of Lytle. Deputies said they found Lytle inside the home sitting down and speaking incoherently. Lytle suddenly stood up and armed herself with a double edged dagger with an approximate ten inch blade, deputies said.

Lytle became combative and one deputy immediately deployed and activated his Taser, but it was ineffective, according to officials. Another deputy had his duty weapon drawn and both deputies repeatedly ordered Lytle to drop the dagger, but she refused and charged at the deputies, according to officials.

Deputies said Lytle closed the distance to the deputies within five feet and held the dagger above her head while making a stabbing motion.

One of the deputies opened fire and Lytle fell to the ground, but did not drop the dagger.

Lytle continued to refuse deputies orders to drop the dagger, deputies said. Lytle eventually threw the dagger away and deputies took her into custody, according to deputies.

Medical aid immediately arrived to the home to treat Lytle’s injuries. Lytle was uncooperative and struggled with medical aid to the point she had to be restrained. Lytle was airlifted to Kern Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that one of its deputies has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a Dec. 29 shooting in Taft.

Deputy Johnny Frisbie’s use of his gun was determined by an internal review board to be within department policy.

Bethany Lytle, 31, was shot and killed after she threatened deputies with the 10-inch knife, the sheriff’s office said at the time.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Jamie L. Yanders-Sternberger (Danville, IL)

Jamie L. Yanders-Sternberger

DANVILLE — Investigations into the death of an area woman continue after her body was found in her home late Sunday evening.

The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department was called just before 9 p.m. Sunday to the home of Jamie L. Sternberger, 40, along Greenwood Cemetery Road.

Capt. Rod Kaag, chief investigator for the sheriff’s department, said Sternberger was found dead inside the residence with initial indications of gunshot wounds.

ANVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Authorities in east central Illinois say a man found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Parke County, Indiana, was a suspect in the murder of a 40-year-old Illinois woman.

The woman, Jamie L. Sternberger, was found fatally shot Sunday in her mobile home near Danville. Her vehicle was found Sunday in Indiana at an undisclosed spot where 43-year-old Michael Penrose is believed to have committed suicide.

Chief Deputy Bill Todd of the Parke County, Indiana, sheriff’s office says Penrose may have been living with Sternberger for about six months at her home outside of Danville where her body was found.

Capt. Rod Kaag of the Vermilion County sheriff’s department tells The (Champaign) News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1cla9tu ) investigators consider Penrose the only suspect in the murder.

However, Chief Deputy Bill Todd with the Parke County, Ind., Sheriff’s Office said his department is working through its official identification confirmation process, but they believe that it was the body of Michael Penrose, 43, that was found at 5:38 p.m. Sunday at an undisclosed location in Parke County, Ind.

Todd said they believe Mr. Penrose was the victim of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. He said they have linked Mr. Penrose to a rural address near Rockville, Ind., but believe he had been living temporarily with Ms. Sternberger for the last six months at her mobile home.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Latalia Robinson (Marion, FL)

Latalia Robinson

Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives confirmed Tuesday that the couple found dead inside a Dunnellon-area home on Sunday were the victims of a murder/suicide and that the woman had been shot multiple times.

Latalia Robinson, 32, was shot with a Taurus .40-caliber handgun that belonged to her husband, Dean Hamilton, according to the man’s friend.

The friend also told detectives Mark Peavy and Felix Rodriguez that the 33-year-old Hamilton, the woman’s estranged husband, usually kept the firearm in his vehicle. He later turned the gun on himself, officials said.

The woman was discovered in the bed, while her husband was found close by.

Three children — a boy and two girls, ages 11, 8 and 7 — discovered the bodies inside the bedroom. The kids have been referred to counseling, authorities said.

Officials said the boy was from a previous relationship and was Robinson’s son. Her two daughters were with Hamilton, officials said. Robinson was a biology teacher at West Port High School.

“This is a clear-cut case of domestic violence that ended tragically, and now three children are without their mother and father,” said Maj. Tommy Bibb, head of the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

Court records show one of them filed fordivorce on November 26, 2013. Robinson was a biology teacher at West Port High School in Ocala. According to her Facebook page she started working here this year.

The two dead are Clara Walker, 51, of the 4000 block of Peck Street, and Robert Parker, 32, of the 2200 block of Alberta. Both died of gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

In that incident, at 1:43 p.m. in the 4000 block of Peck Street, police responded to a call and found Parker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and lying outside of a car. Another man, 24, was outside. He had gunshot wounds to the head and back and is listed in critical and unstable condition. ST. LOUIS • Federal prosecutors have accused a St. Louis man of involvement in three drug-related killings since 2013.

Anthony Jordan, 29, was indicted Wednesday on charges of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and possession and/or discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime resulting in death, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

The indictment claims Jordan fatally shot Robert “Parker G” Parker, 32, and Clara Walker, 51, on Dec. 29, 2013 “in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.” Police at the time said that Parker was in an SUV and was hit by shots fired from a vehicle that had pulled up next to him in the 4000 block of Peck Street, near Fairground Park. One passenger was critically wounded and another grazed.

Walker, a mother of nine and grandmother to eight, was hit by a stray bullet as she looked out her apartment window, relatives said at the time.

Killed – Sheena Green (Henrico County, VA)

Sheena Green

A Henrico County woman who was fatally wounded Sunday in Richmond had sought a protective order last week against the suspect in her death, claiming he had threatened to kill her.

The woman, Sheena Green, 26, requested a protective order Dec. 23 against Corenzo Laroscoe Hill, the father of her two children, according to court records in Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

That day, Green wrote in an affidavit for the protective order that Hill kept “putting his hands on me and saying he’s going to kill me. This is not the first time this done happened.”

But Green’s petition for the protective order was dismissed because she failed to appear that day at a preliminary protective order hearing, according to court records.

Green was found about 5:30 a.m. Sunday lying on the ground in a wooded area in the 2700 block of Richmond-Henrico Turnpike in the city’s North Side.

She had been shot, run over by a vehicle and left for dead, according to a source familiar with the case.

She was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

A Henrico County man who left the mother of his two children bleeding from gunshot wounds and then ran over her with her car will serve 26 years in prison.

Corenzo Hill, 31, of the 3700 block of Conway Street, entered a no-contest plea Tuesday morning in Richmond Circuit Court to second-degree murder as part of an agreement that resolves a brutal murder preceded by issues of domestic violence. Hill had been indicted on first-degree murder, abduction and firearms charges and faced a life sentence.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – April Everts-Hampton (Simi Valley, CA)

April Everts-Hampton1

A 42-year-old Simi Valley man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself this weekend, police said Tuesday.

The couple’s four children were home at the time of the shooting, but were unharmed, police said.

Investigators said Jason Hampton killed his wife, 30-year-old April Evert-Hampton, in their home at 2440 E. Woodrow Ave. Saturday afternoon before shooting himself with a handgun.

Evert-Hampton was declared dead at the scene shortly after police arrived at just before 2 p.m. Jason Hampton was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and later died from his injuries.

April Everts-Hampton, 30, and Jason Hampton, 42, were found in a home in a cul-de-sac in the 2400 block of Woodrow Avenue at about 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

During the investigation, it was determined that four children were living at the residence. Livingstone said detectives at the scene believe the children were not in the home when the shootings occurred.

On December 28 at 1:38 PM, Simi Valley Police Department Officers responded to an “unknown trouble” call at 2440 E. Woodrow Ave. Upon arriving, officers discovered a male and female adult inside the residence with gunshot wounds. The female was deceased and the male was gravely wounded with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The male was transported to an area hospital where he subsequently died as a result of his wounds. A handgun was recovered at the scene. There were four children residing at the location that were unharmed and are presently under the supervision of a case worker from Ventura County Child Protective Services pending the identification and notification of family members. The Police Department would like to commend and thank those area residents who willingly provided shelter and assistance to the four children while waiting for the arrival of Child Protective Services.

Update 12/31/13, 1445: The two decedents, Jason Hampton, 42 years and April Everts-Hampton, 30 years were married. During the subsequent investigation, a determination was made that Jason was responsible for April’s death and then killed himself. Double Murder – Killed – Luann Storey (Lincoln, AL)

female

LINCOLN, Alabama — Police are investigating a double homicide after two people were found shot Saturday, according to The Daily Home.

Deonte Strown, 27, was found dead in the driveway of a home on Roberson Road after officers were called to a report of shots fired around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, police told the newspaper.

Luann Storey, 46, died at a hospital after she was taken by a private vehicle.

A Talladega County jury of eight women and four men spent just under two hours deliberating Tuesday before finding Jonathon Virgil Davis, 24, of Lincoln, guilty of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Davis now faces 20 to 99 years or life in prison on the attempted murder charge.
According to Assistant District Attorney Christina Kilgore, Davis will be sentenced Sept. 15 by Talladega County Circuit Judge Julian King.

Davis was charged following a series of events Dec. 28, 2013, that resulted in the deaths of two people: Deonte “Tae-Tae” Strown, 27, and Luanne “Belle” Story, 47.

Davis’s victim in the attempted murder case was Strown’s brother, Brandon “Bam-Bam” Strown, who was involved in a relationship with Story’s daughter, LaShekia Knight, at the time of the incident.
Knight’s sister, Diamond Knight, had a child in common with Deonte Strown.

Story also had a son, James “Lil James” Knight, who was a witness, along with Antonio “Jarue” Tanner.

On Dec. 28, 2013, Bam-Bam had his cousin, Shawn Collins, drop him off at LaShekia Knight’s apartment at Talladega Downs. Strown and Knight argued, and he left.

Davis is not related to any of the Knights, but said he had known them since he was a child and considers the two daughters his sisters.

Shortly after the exchange at Talladega Downs, Davis went to Brandon Strown’s apartment on Shocco Springs Road. He only found Collins and told him that he planned to kill Strown for putting his hands on “his sister.”

Collins testified that Davis also showed him a gun.

At this point, Davis drove to pick up Story, who had come down from Gadsden to get her grandchild, who had gone to stay with the Strown family after Christmas.

The rest of the day’s events took place at the Strowns’ grandparents’ house on Roberson Road in Lincoln. Story demanded her grandchild, who was not there. She went into the house briefly, then came out again, and was locked out.

The brothers had heard the commotion and came around. Brandon got a shotgun from the garage, which Deonte took from him. What happened next was disputed.

According to the state’s version of events, Story and Deonte Strown fought over the shotgun, which went off and struck Story in the gut. She later died of her wounds.

Davis then shot Deonte Strown, knocking him down but not killing him.

Then Davis began shooting at Brandon Strown, who was unarmed and trying to make his way back into his grandparents’ house. He eventually made it, and Davis shot at him again when he was “peeping around the front door.”

At this point, Deonte Strown tried to sit up and move toward the shotgun before being fatally shot in the head by Davis.

Mass Shooting – Killed – Kimberle Johnson (Montgomery, AL)

Kimberle Johnson

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Bond was denied for two suspects charged with three counts of capital murder in the multiple shooting at Centennial Hill Bar & Grill on Dec. 28.

Montgomery County District Judge Jimmy Pool denied bond for Jason McWilliams and Darius Thomas, both 25, during their preliminary hearing on Thursday, according to a Montgomery Advertiser report. The suspects have denied any involvement in the shooting

Their cases were bound over to a grand jury.

Local rapper Glenn Thomas, also known as Doe B, 22, Troy University student Kimberle Johnson, 21, and Timnorius Hamilton, 20, were shot to death during the mayhem at the club.

Detective Andy Magnus testified that Darius Thomas was angry at Doe B because the rapper had refused to help him get into the club as the rapper and his entourage walked past him and others standing in line at the club that night, the Advertiser reported.

Shortly after entering the club, Doe B took the stage to perform.

Darius Thomas, McWilliams and others then apparently began throwing gang signs and yelling “South Side,” “Four Way” and expletives against the rapper, Magnus said during court testimony. South Side and Four Way are local gangs.

Darius Thomas and Doe B soon ended up face-to-face and apparently Doe B shoved Thomas in the face. Thomas then raised his armed to knock his hands away and a bottle went flying.

Magnus said witnesses told police McWilliams later began “shooting erratically across the crowd,” while Darius Thomas began shooting from the stairs, fell to the base of the stairs and continued shooting from the floor.

Six other people were wounded by gunfire and are in stable condition.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The family of slain Montgomery rapper Glenn Thomas, also known as Doe B, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the proprietors of the nightclub where he was gunned down on Dec. 28, 2013.

Doe B, 22, Troy University student Kimberle Johnson, 21, and Timnorius Hamilton, 20, died from injuries in the shooting. Six others were wounded.

Montgomery police charged two suspects, Jason McWilliams and Darius Thomas, both 25, with three counts of capital murder. Police say the men fired shots inside the club after an altercation with Doe B.

Attorneys Dwayne L. Brown and Michael Strickland filed the suit on behalf of Thomas’ father, Kenneth Aaron, seeking an unspecified amount of money in damages in Doe B’s death, the Law Office of Dwayne L. Brown stated in a press release.

The suit, filed against Centennial Hill Bar & Grill, its owner Nicole Bankhead, an unnamed security company and the city of Montgomery, alleges security officials at the club were bribed and allowed certain patrons to bring firearms into the club.

Rapper Glenn Thomas, 22, known as Doe B., and Kimberle Johnson, a 22-year-old Troy University student, were fatally shot in the club in the early the morning hours of Dec. 28. Timnorius Hamilton, 20, died from his injuries on Jan. 3. Five others were wounded and were hospitalized in stable condition.

Doe B, born Glenn Thomas, and Kimberle Johnson, 21, also of Montgomery, died after gunfire erupted at the bar around 1 a.m., police said.

Death
On December 28, 2013, Doe B was shot at the Centennial Bar and Grill in Montgomery, Alabama. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A bystander, Kimberlie Johnson, was also killed,[1] and six other patrons were injured.[17] The Centennial was housed in what was earlier known as the “Rose Supper Club”, which was the subject of a shooting in December 2012 that left six people injured.[18] It had also been the location of multiple shootings over the past seven years.[19] The name of the venue had been changed after the most recent incident. After the latest shooting, Mayor Todd Strange ordered the club to close immediately.[18]
On December 30, 2013, 25-year-old Jason McWilliams of Montgomery turned himself in to MPD detectives. He would then be charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond.[20] Montgomery Police Department detectives concluded that the “shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between McWilliams and Doe B.”[21] A second local 25-year-old man, named Darius Thomas was also arrested for the murders and charged accordingly. On January 3, 2014, a third shooting victim 20-year-old Tim Hamilton died from the gunshot wounds.[22]

Doe B’s funeral was held in Montgomery, Alabama on January 4, 2014. T.I. spoke at the funeral praising Doe B and speaking about how bright of a future in music he really had.[23] On January 11, 2014, it was reported that three of the five surviving victims of the shooting were suing the Centennial Hill Bar & Grill. The plaintiffs Keldric Landon, Clarence Young, Jr. and Ferro Bennett have filed lawsuits against Centennial, The Flight LLC, its owner Nicole Bankhead, and the club’s security company. Landon was the most injured suffered multiple gunshot injuries requiring surgery. All three victims claimed in the lawsuit that the club’s bouncers were bribed into allowing weapons into the building. They are seeking compensation for medical expenses, loss of work, and pain and suffering.[24]

On September 30, 2014 it was discovered that someone had tried to disturb Thomas’s grave. His mother has expressed concern and is considering moving his body to an unmarked grave.

Mass Shooting – Wounded – Woman (Houma, LA)

female

A Houma man killed four, including himself, and injured three others in a shooting rampage across Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes Thursday, according to police.

The dead are Milton Bourgeois, longtime CEO at Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital in Raceland; Susan “Pixie” Gouaux, wife of Lafourche Parish Councilman Phillip Gouaux; the suspected shooter, 38-year-old Ben Edward Freeman; and his wife Denise Taylor Freeman.

Councilman Gouaux, his daughter Andrea and Bourgeois’ wife Ann were also shot, but had survived as Friday morning.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputies found Ben Freeman dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his SUV on U.S. 90 near Bayou Blue hours after the shooting.

According to Sheriff Craig Webre, sometime before 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Freeman entered Councilman Gouaux’s residence on Hyland Drive in Lockport. Freeman was divorced from Gouaux’s daughter Jeanne, who was not at the home.

Once inside, police believe the shotgun-wielding gunman shot Phillip Gouaux in the throat, killed Gouaux’s wife and shot his other daughter Andrea.

The councilman was able to make the initial 911 call before he was rushed with Andrea to University Hospital in New Orleans. They are listed in critical, but stable condition.

Immediately after, Freeman drove some 15 miles north to Raceland and the home of Bourgeois on the 2900 block of La. 308. Bourgeois was the CEO of St. Anne General Hospital since 1988 where Freeman worked as a registered nurse before being terminated in 2011, according to Webre.

Inside the Bourgeois residence, police said Freeman killed Bourgeois with a close range shotgun blast. Bourgeois’s wife Ann was also shot in the leg and is listed in stable condition.

Three hospitals where Freeman worked in years past, Terrebonne General Medical Center, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center and Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, were on lockdown while officers searched for Freeman.

Parked along U.S. 90 sometime before 10:20 p.m., Freeman shot himself in the head with the same shotgun used in the slayings, police said.

The search for Freeman led authorities to his Houma home, where they found his wife, Denise Taylor Freeman, dead in the bathtub, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said. Her cause of death hasn’t been determined, but Freeman is suspected of killing her as well.

Webre described a “difficult” custody conflict between Ben Freeman and Phillip Gouaux’s daughter. He noted Freeman was mandated by a court to have supervised visits with the four children he fathered with the daughter.

Freeman has also plead guilty to harassment charges and had multiple protective orders filed by his ex-wife, according to Webre. The last of those orders expired less than a month ago.

“Clearly, there has been a very difficult and complicated divorce/custody issue going on,” Webre said in a late-night news conference Thursday.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner ruled the cause of death was asphyxia (strangulation) due to suffocation and drowning for Denise Freeman. Authorities believe she was the first victim killed.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Yvone Tran (Garden Grove, CA)

Yvone Tran1

ORIGINAL POST, DEC. 26, 9:44 A.M.: Garden Grove Police suspect a murder-suicide is the cause of today’s early morning fatal shootings of a 51-year-old Vietnamese man and his 39-year-old Vietnamese wife.

“Family members told investigators that the couple was having marital problems and they were talking about a divorce,” says Lt. Jeff Nightengale, the police department’s spokesman.

At 4:16 a.m. this morning, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 “hang up” call, according to Nightengale, who adds a relative of the unidentified husband then called back on the police business line to say the man may have shot his wife and then himself.

Officers arrived to the residence in the 15000 block of Sail Avenue to find the husband and wife, who also has not been identified, suffering from gunshot wounds, said Nightengale, adding that paramedics later pronounced both dead at the scene.

The couple had two children, a 17-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, but it is not yet clear if they were home or at another family member’s house at the time of the shootings, Nightengale noted.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Mong Thuy Thi Doan (Dorchester County, SC)

female

A 32-year-old man bought crack cocaine before fatally shooting his girlfriend and then himself in a murder-suicide in the Dorchester Manor subdivision, authorities reported Tuesday.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the couple as Du Xuan Dao, a 32-year-old Vietnamese man, and Mong Thuy Thi Doan, a 27-year-old Vietnamese woman.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the couple’s home on Dorchester Manor Boulevard around 6 p.m. Monday for a welfare check, Chief Deputy Sam Richardson said.

Dao and Doan were found dead inside the single-story brick house with gunshot wounds to their heads, Nisbet said. Authorities believe they died Christmas Day.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Teresa Bickley (Logan, OH)

female

LOGAN, Ohio – The man police say shot a Logan woman to death and then turned the gun on himself Christmas night has died from his own gunshot wound.

Hocking County Coroner tells 10TV that Phillip Loschiavo, 30, was pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center at 7:53 p.m. Friday.

On Christmas evening around 6 p.m., police say Loschaivo shot and killed Teresa Bickley, 30, in the parking lot of Hocking Mall in Logan.

Bickley died at the scene.

Loschiavo then shot himself. He was rushed to Grant Medical Center in critical condition at the time.

Police say Loschiavo blamed Bickley for allegedly interfering in his marriage. Investigators say Loschiavo’s estranged wife agreed to meet him in the parking lot of the Hocking Mall in Logan — believing a public meeting place would be safe. Bickley went along to support Loshaivo’s wife. His wife was not injured in the shooting.

After Loschaivo died, an autopsy was performed Saturday morning. the Hocking County coroner confirms the cause of death as “complications from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Killed – Juliana Barrios (Los Angeles, CA)

Juliana Barrios1

Juliana Barrios, a 24-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Wednesday, Dec. 25 in the 700 block of East 87th Street in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 4:50 p.m., Barrios and a group of people were standing outside a home where a holiday party was taking place when three Latinos in a light-colored truck drove by and a person inside fired multiple rounds at the group, LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera said.

Barrios, of Pomona, was struck and driven to Martin Luther King Jr. Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center for treatment.

Barrios was pronounced dead in the parking lot at 5:16 p.m. after the medical center, which does not serve trauma patients, could not provide treatment, said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office.

The area where Barrios was shot is frequented by gang members, said LAPD Lt. Jeff Nolte with the Criminal Gang Homicide Division. Barrios could have been mistaken for someone else, Nolte said.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Violeta Aragon (San Lorenzo, CA)

female

SAN LORENZO — A man who Alameda County Sheriff’s investigators say killed his wife Christmas Day and then turned the gun on himself has been identified as Amerwinfino Lim Jr., 40.

An autopsy conducted Thursday on Lim showed that he died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s office.

A separate autopsy for Lim’s 36-year-old wife — who the Sheriff’s Office identified as Violeta Aragon — is slated to take place on Friday, a coroner’s spokeswoman said.

Aragon was shot multiple times about 2 a.m. in the garage of a small yellow house on the 1800 block of Via Amigos. The shooting was likely sparked by some sort of “marital discord” between the couple, Sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.

He declined to discuss details or elaborate on why the fatal shooting took place due to the sensitive nature of the case, but did say the couple did not have custody issues, had not filed for divorce and that no restraining order had been filed within the household.

The shooting occurred with three children ranging in age from 11 to 17 years and two grandparents home at the time of the shooting.

One of the couple’s sons was inside the garage and witnessed the shooting, Nelson said.

Murder/Attempted Suicide – Killed – Virginia Campos (San Antonio, TX)

Virginia Lopez-Campos

SAN ANTONIO — The woman who was killed in a suspected murder-suicide Tuesday near Calaveras Lake has been identified as Virginia Campos, 47.

Campos died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office, which has listed the death as a homicide.

The couple lived in the 9900 block of New Sulphur Springs Road, where deputies arrived Tuesday afternoon after reports that a man had shot his wife two times, killing her, and then tried to kill himself.

The husband, who has not been named, was taken to the intensive care unit at San Antonio Military Medical Center. The couple’s adult daughter and 2-year-old grandchild were there when the shooting occurred, authorities said.

Deputies had previously responded to domestic disturbances at the home, said Paul Berry, spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the couple’s adult daughter was at the residence but was in the driveway when the shooting occurred.

The daughter told investigators she did not see her father shoot her mother. But she did see him exit the home with an apparent gunshot wound before entering a large shed and shooting himself again, she told authorities.

“She did see the father with the gun pointed at himself,” said sheriff’s office spokesman Paul Berry, adding that deputies have previously responded to calls “of a domestic nature” at the home.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was shot to death Tuesday evening and a man sent to the hospital after what authorities described as an attempted murder-suicide.

Triple Murder – Killed – Ilona Flint (San Diego, CA)

Salvatore Belvedere left Gianni Belvedere right

Left: Salvatore Belvedere; Center: Gianni Belvedere; Right: Ilona Flint

The mysterious killings of local residents Ilona Flint, Salvatore Belvedere and Gianni Belvedere have rocked and saddened San Diego. Now, six months into this case, many questions remain unanswered as the San Diego Police Department continues to put together pieces of the puzzle.
Here’s a timeline of key events in this triple homicide case, which first began on the early hours of Christmas Eve with a deadly shooting outside Westfield Mission Valley Mall.

Dec. 24, 2013 – The Christmas Eve Shooting:
At around 1:15 a.m., Ilona Flint and Salvatore Belvedere, both 22 years old, are critically shot in a parking lot outside the Macy’s department store at San Diego’s Mission Valley Mall. Despite being shot in the head, Flint manages to call 911 to report the shooting, telling dispatchers she’s injured near the mall. Minutes later, officers locate the wounded duo inside a vehicle in the 1600-block of Camino Del Rio North. Flint is pronounced dead at the scene. Salvatore, suffering life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head and torso, is transported to a local hospital. SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings holds a briefing on the Christmas Eve shooting and says police are looking for a possible suspect, described as a 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 man wearing tan pants.

Dec. 26, 2013 – Gianni Belvedere is Missing:
Two days after the parking lot shooting, the families of both Flint and Salvatore hold a brief news conference announcing that 24-year-old Gianni Belvedere – Sal’s older brother and Flint’s fiancé – has gone missing. Police confirm Gianni was last seen on Dec. 23 around 10 p.m. at his Tierrasanta home. “Gianni, we need you to come home,” pleads one family member, between tears. “Please call us.” Investigators confirm the Christmas Eve shooting does not appear to be connected to any sort of robbery. Lt. Hastings says a possible vehicle of interest in the case is a 2008-2011 dark gray Honda sedan.

Dec. 27, 2013 – Salvatore Succumbs to Injuries, Search Continues for Gianni:
The Belvedere family confirms that Sal has died from injuries sustained in the Christmas Eve shooting. Police say they’re still searching for Gianni, and issue a missing person bulletin describing Gianni as an Italian-American man with brown hair and brown eyes. He’s 6 feet tall, 165 pounds and likely driving a four-door, dark green 2004 Toyota Camry XLE with the Utah license plate B154VZ. The Belvedere family says Gianni may have also been at the mall with Flint and Sal at the time of the shooting.

Jan. 17, 2014 – Body Found in Trunk of Missing Man’s Car in Riverside, Calif.:
The dark green Toyota Camry with the Utah license plate described in the SDPD’s missing person bulletin for Gianni is found in Riverside, Calif., about an hour-and-a-half north of San Diego County. A passerby calls authorities at around 11:45 a.m. and reports that a foul odor is coming from the trunk area of vehicle, which is parked at a shopping center. When officers arrive on scene, they open the trunk and find the decomposed body of a man inside. On Jan. 18, a Belvedere family member confirms the victim in the trunk is Gianni. The SDPD says it’s working with the Riverside Police Department on this development. An autopsy is scheduled for the following week.

Jan. 23, 2014 – Confirmed by PD: Victim in Trunk is Gianni:
Police officially confirm that the man found dead in the trunk of the car in Riverside is, in fact, missing San Diego resident Gianni Belvedere. The cause of death is not released but detectives clarify that Gianni was a victim of homicide.

June 21, 2014 — Police, Family Confirm Arrest in Triple-Homicide Case
Nearly six months to the date of the Mission Valley Christmas Eve murders, the Belvedere family and SDPD confirm that an arrest has been made in the slayings of Ilona, Sal and Gianni. Carlo Gallapo Mercado, 29, was booked on three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killings. The SDPD schedules a news briefing for Monday, June 23, to share more information.

Nov. 3, 2014 — Mercado Committed to State Hospital
Judge Joseph P. Brannigan found Mercado not competent to stand trial and ordered he be treated at Patton State Hospital for three years or until he is found competent to assist in his own defense.

The third victim of an unsolved triple-homicide case that has gripped San Diego since Christmas Eve died as a result of fatal gunshot wound(s) to the head, the San Diego Police Department confirmed Friday.

The SDPD said San Diego resident-turned-missing-person Gianni Belvedere, 24, was not able to survive injuries sustained in some sort of shooting, according to preliminary findings from the Riverside Medical Examiner’s office. His final autopsy report has not yet been completed, but San Diego police said this gives new insight into how he died.

On Dec. 24, 2013, at around 1:15 a.m., Flint and Salvatore were found critically shot in a parking lot outside the Macy’s department store at Westfield Mission Valley mall in San Diego’s Mission Valley area. Flint was pronounced dead at the scene of the Christmas Eve shooting. Salvatore died at the hospital a few days later.

A couple days after the shooting, the Belvedere family and San Diego police announced that Gianni Belvedere had gone missing. He was last seen at his home in Tierrasanta on Dec. 23, 2013, around 10 p.m. – just hours before the fatal shooting of his fiancée and brother.

A San Diego shopping mall was negligent in not providing better security measures that might have prevented the Christmas Eve shooting deaths of three persons in its parking lot, a lawsuit asserts.

Filed by attorney Daniel Gilleon in San Diego County Superior Court, the lawsuit says that the mall’s owner, Westfield Centers, “failed to use reasonable care to protect their patrons, guests, tenants and invitees.”

Killed – Ruth Bateman Clay (San Antonio, TX)

Ruth Bateman Clay

SAN ANTONIO – It’s been more than nine months since 90-year-old Ruth Bateman Clay was found dead inside her East Side home.

She was shot in the neck — possibly the victim of a stray bullet that happened to break through a wall into her bedroom.

The crime has stumped San Antonio police, who have not been able to identify a suspect.

Police said Clay was last seen alive on Dec. 23, 2013, when her friends dropped her off at her home in the 300 block of Como after attending a Christmas party. When they didn’t hear from Clay, they checked on her on Dec. 25 and again on Dec. 28. They were not able to contact her.

Ten days passed before police were called to Clay’s home on Jan. 3. She was found on the floor of her bedroom. She had been shot in the neck.

“Around the time that she might have been shot (on Dec. 23), there was a call for shots fired in the area,” said San Antonio police Chief William McManus. “The detectives believe the shot may have come from a nearby business.”

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio police say a 90-year-old woman has been fatally shot while sitting in her wheelchair inside her home.

Police said Ruth Bateman Clay appeared to have been killed by a bullet fired behind her home that passed through the wall of her bedroom. The police department released a statement Friday requesting the public’s assistance.

Triple Shooting – Wounded – Woman (West Palm Beach, FL)

female

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —A man was fatally shot and two women were injured after gunfire erupted inside a car early Monday morning in West Palm Beach.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said it happened near Military Trail and Orlando Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said a man and a woman got into an argument, pulled out guns and started shooting.

The man, who has not been identified, was found dead in the car. The woman was shot in the jaw and taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Another woman inside the car was also shot and was being treated at a local hospital.

A woman found guilty of killing her former lover was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

Kizzie Shanika Styles, 36, a mother of five from Rivera Beach, will serve life in prison for murdering Monroe Z. Finley, 38 of West Palm Beach. Finley left behind two children.

In August, a jury found Styles guilty of first-degree murder in the Dec. 23, 2013, shooting of Finley. She was acquitted of an attempted murder count in the shooting of Finley’s girlfriend, Anntwenette Jones, 32.

According to Styles’ attorneys, she acted in self-defense when she fired the shots and inaccuracies by the prosecution warranted a new trial.

Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Barry Cohen denied any new trial motions Monday morning and sentenced Styles to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Attorneys involved in the case suspect that alcohol, anger and jealousy pushed Styles to use a Glock pistol to fatally shoot Finley and injure Jones last year.

“We believe she was angry at him that evening because he had another girlfriend,” Assistant State Attorney Jill Richstone told the Sun Sentinel on Monday.

Two days before Christmas last year, Styles, Finley and Jones were in the parking lot at the former Coco Plum Plaza in the 2800 block of North Military Trail near West Palm Beach when shots were fired.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Tammy Black (Virginia Beach, VA)

Tammy Black

UPDATE 12/23: Police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Dennie Black and the victim as 45-year-old Tammy Black of the 3500 block of Shore Drive.

Dennie Black has been an instructor at the Navy’s regional training academy for law enforcement since July 2011, Navy officials told 13News Now.

VIRGINIABEACH — A husband and wife died Sunday afternoon after they got into a fight at The Chesapeake House on Shore Drive, near the Lesner Bridge.

Police said they got a call about a firearms violation at about 3:30 p.m. When they got to the apartments, they cleared the complex and found a woman dead inside an apartment. Later, they found her husband’s body outside of the building.

Officers said that the situation grew from a domestic altercation between the couple.

On Sunday, Dennie Black had a different message. At 12:30, he posted on Facebook that the truth about his marriage was about to come out. “Tammy, I hope you’re happy!” he wrote.

Three hours later, both were dead. Dennie Black, 45, is believed to have shot his wife at the condo they had shared off Shore Drive. Then he shot himself and fell off the sixth-floor balcony, according to police reports and the medical examiner’s office.

Friends and family, who say the shooting came after months of turmoil, are questioning events leading to the deaths. On Sunday, friends say, police took Tammy Black, 43, to a magistrate so she could seek an emergency protective order against her husband.

Michelle Bryant, Tammy Black’s sister, said her sister called on Sunday, telling her she was on her way to the magistrate and admitting that she was scared to go. Black called back a little while later to say her request had been denied.

In October, Tammy Black decided she wanted to end the marriage, Bryant said, and they started the divorce process. Dennie Black had moved out of their condo at the Chesapeake House.

Cindy Banwarth, Tammy Black’s friend, said Tammy Black told her that her husband was abusive and had threatened to kill her and himself. Banwarth said Tammy Black didn’t want to report him to police because of fear of what it would do to his career.

Killed – Alexis Hunter (Selma, AL)

Alexis Hunter1

During the hearing, Selma Police Department Sgt. Kendall Thomas described the scene as he arrived at the corner of Franklin Street and Memorial Avenue Saturday night around 10 p.m. Thomas said Alexis Hunter was lying on the curb, with her legs on Franklin Avenue and her torso on the grass.

“When I arrived, she was bleeding profusely from the head and was unconscious and unresponsive,” he said.

Alexis Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot in the head at close range by Jones, Thomas testified. Thomas testified in Monday’s hearing that he connected Jones as the shooter through multiple interviews with witnesses.

The incident began when a group of young men, including Larry Hunter and Jones, were talking near the intersection of Franklin Street and Memorial Avenue.

Larry Hunter told police Jones said, “I got to get this money. I’m broke. I need some money. The next person that comes through I got to get it,” according to Thomas.

A group of three teenage girls, including Alexis Hunter, walked past Selma High School on Franklin and were confronted by Jones, Thomas said.

Witness accounts vary on the exact details of the conversation between Jones and the girls, but all accounts confirm Jones reportedly pulled a gun from his waistband and fired one shot, striking Alexis Hunter in the head after asking for her phone.

The two remaining girls scattered after the gunshot, but were chased by the suspects and asked to hand over their phones. Both girls returned home.

Sunday will mark a year since 18-year-old Selma High student Alexis Hunter was shot and killed near her school, leaving her mother with a pain that’s hard to describe.

Since Joann Hunter learned that a Selma teen allegedly killed her daughter at the corner of Franklin Street and Memorial Avenue, she has tried to keep her daughter’s loving and kind spirit alive.

Murder suspects John Jones and Larry Hunter allegedly robbed a group of girls, including Alexis, for their cell phones during the incident on Dec. 21, 2013. The shooter was reportedly Larry.

Jones was indicted on capital murder at the time of the incident, and Larry received the same charge in early July.

The two are expected to appear in court for trial May 4, 2015.

Larry, who was 18 at the time of the incident, is facing either the death penalty or the life in jail without parole if convicted, District Attorney Michael Jackson said in July.

Because Jones was a minor at the time of the shooting, at 16 years old, he cannot face the death penalty, Jackson said.

Mass Shooting – Wounded – Woman (Trenton, NJ)

female

TRENTON – A shooting in front of a South Ward convenience store last night left a 24-year-old city man dead and four people wounded, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The shooting happened directly in front of the Community Food Market at the intersection of Jersey Street and Home Avenue, Mercer First Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said this morning.

Just before 10 p.m., a vehicle traveling on Home Avenue stopped directly in front of the store, a prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said. Multiple shots emanated from the vehicle, cutting down Centre Street resident Brandon Varlow, three men and a woman. The car then fled the scene.

Varlow was shot multiple times, the prosecutor’s office said. He was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center but pronounced dead there last night.

The people shot alongside Varlow – men 24, 25, and 43 years old and a 25-year-old woman – were taken to area hospitals but all expected to survive, the prosecutor’s office said.

Murder/Suicide – Dead – Deidre Thacker (Grainger County, TN)

female

The case of a woman and her grandson found shot to death in a Rutledge yard Saturday has been ruled a murder-suicide, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

According to a TBI news release, the victims have been identified as Deidre Thacker of Sharps Chapel and her 10-year-old grandson, Jaden Thacker. Both bodies were taken for autopsy to the East Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville.

A neighbor found the bodies shortly before 6:15 a.m. in the yard of an abandoned home at 8926 Lakeshore Drive in Rutledge, Grainger County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Charles Biddle said.

Officials said a 1995 green Taurus was found in the driveway of the abandoned home.

Authorities said evidence discovered in the vehicle as well as evidence at the scene indicated a murder-suicide. The two had no known association with the address where their bodies were found, officials said.

“It appears it happened earlier in the morning,” Biddle said. “We’ll be able to determine more about the time of death after an autopsy.”

Deputies found a .38-caliber pistol at the scene.

A woman, who lived next door to the abandoned house, found the two bodies on the 8800 block in Rutledge shortly before 8 a.m. and called police.

(WBIR) Officials said they believe a grandmother shot her 10-year-old grandson before killing herself near an abandoned house in Grainger County Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

Killed – Diana Fields-Edmonds (Cleveland, OH)

Diana Fields-Edmonds

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 38-year-old Cleveland woman was shot about 3 a.m. and pushed from a car on East 83rd Street near Woodland Avenue, police said.

Police were called and found the woman in the street. She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Diana Fields-Edmonds.

She was a passenger in a vehicle at the time of the shooting, which occurred on East 83rd, police spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia said.

“At some point between Cedar and Woodland avenues, shots were fired from outside the vehicle,” Ciaccia said. “The victim was then pushed from the vehicle, along with her purse, and the driver left the scene.”

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland man was sentenced to life without parole for the vicious slaying of his wife, whom he shot twice then dumped her body in the street and drove over it with her car.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose ordered Antonio Hicks, 36, to prison in the slaying of Diana Fields-Edmonds on Dec. 21. Within moments of Ambrose’s sentence, family members of Fields-Edmonds clapped and one yelled, “There is a God.”

The sentence came after a two-week trial in which a jury convicted Hicks on Thursday of aggravated murder, felonious assault and weapons charges. Hicks told Ambrose that he didn’t shoot his wife.
