Double Murder – Killed – Tacara C. Williams (Metairie, LA)

Tacara C. Williams

Two gunmen opened fire in the parking lot of a Metairie apartment complex early Monday, killing two people in what authorities said was a drug-related crime. The gunfire erupted in the predawn hours and sent parents running to protect their kids as bullets struck a nearby residence.

The people killed were identified as Tacara C. Williams, 25, and Demektric Whitfield-Anderson, 29, both of Memphis, Tenn. A third person in the car at the time was unharmed.

The gunfire sent nearby parents running to protect their kids. A bullet struck an apartment window, cracking it but not injuring the 7-year-old boy sleeping in the room.

Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies were searching for two assailants who started shooting shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.

The driver, Whitfield-Anderson, was shot multiple times and died at East Jefferson General Hospital. Williams, the woman in the passenger seat died at the scene. A woman in the back seat survived unharmed and was being questioned by detectives, Boyd said.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman Glen Boyd, a man and two women were staying at the Super 8 on Clearview Parkway when the man either made or received a phone call leading the three people to drive to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.

Boyd said that two men approached the car and started talking to Demektric Whitfield-Anderson, who was in the drivers seat. The Whitefield-Anderson then began to back up the car in an attempt to leave the scene when the two men opened fire on the car.

Boyd said Whitfield-Andersen was shot multiple times and taken to East Jefferson General Hospital, where he died. Tacara C. Williams, the front passenger seat, died in the car.

A second woman was in the back seat and wasn’t injured, Boyd said. Both victims were from Memphis, Tennessee.

A second suspect has been booked and charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Demekrtic Anderson-Whitfield aka Memphis rapper Meechy Meech.

Jason “Jay” Thomas of New Orleans, has surrendered, according to Nola, after being wanted in connection with the double homicide shooting which occurred on December 30th in Metairie apartment complex in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, a part of New Orleans metro-area.

Demekrtic Anderson-Whitfield aka Meechy Meech along with Tacara Moss-Williams were both shot and killed after setting up a meeting by phone which took place at the apartment complex just a few blocks from the motel in which they were staying in.

male

RUSTON — A suspect in an armed robbery and a separate kidnapping was shot and killed Sunday by police at a Ruston motel, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Joseph Glenn, 22, of Grambling, confronted the Ruston police officers with a replica of a handgun before he was fatally shot at a Hampton Inn around 5:30 a.m., the State Police said.

Glenn was the suspect in an armed robbery at a Ruston gas station that was reported several hours before the motel shooting. He also was suspected of involvement in a kidnapping at a Walmart in Ruston that occurred after the robbery.

State Police Trooper Albert Paxton said nobody was injured in the armed robbery or kidnapping, but he didn’t immediately release any other information about either incident.

Mass Murder/Suicide – Dead – Ben Freeman (Houma, LA)

Ben Freeman

A Houma man killed four, including himself, and injured three others in a shooting rampage across Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes Thursday, according to police.

The dead are Milton Bourgeois, longtime CEO at Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital in Raceland; Susan “Pixie” Gouaux, wife of Lafourche Parish Councilman Phillip Gouaux; the suspected shooter, 38-year-old Ben Edward Freeman; and his wife Denise Taylor Freeman.

Councilman Gouaux, his daughter Andrea and Bourgeois’ wife Ann were also shot, but had survived as Friday morning.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputies found Ben Freeman dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his SUV on U.S. 90 near Bayou Blue hours after the shooting.

According to Sheriff Craig Webre, sometime before 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Freeman entered Councilman Gouaux’s residence on Hyland Drive in Lockport. Freeman was divorced from Gouaux’s daughter Jeanne, who was not at the home.

Once inside, police believe the shotgun-wielding gunman shot Phillip Gouaux in the throat, killed Gouaux’s wife and shot his other daughter Andrea.

The councilman was able to make the initial 911 call before he was rushed with Andrea to University Hospital in New Orleans. They are listed in critical, but stable condition.

Immediately after, Freeman drove some 15 miles north to Raceland and the home of Bourgeois on the 2900 block of La. 308. Bourgeois was the CEO of St. Anne General Hospital since 1988 where Freeman worked as a registered nurse before being terminated in 2011, according to Webre.

Inside the Bourgeois residence, police said Freeman killed Bourgeois with a close range shotgun blast. Bourgeois’s wife Ann was also shot in the leg and is listed in stable condition.

Three hospitals where Freeman worked in years past, Terrebonne General Medical Center, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center and Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, were on lockdown while officers searched for Freeman.

Parked along U.S. 90 sometime before 10:20 p.m., Freeman shot himself in the head with the same shotgun used in the slayings, police said.

The search for Freeman led authorities to his Houma home, where they found his wife, Denise Taylor Freeman, dead in the bathtub, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said. Her cause of death hasn’t been determined, but Freeman is suspected of killing her as well.

Webre described a “difficult” custody conflict between Ben Freeman and Phillip Gouaux’s daughter. He noted Freeman was mandated by a court to have supervised visits with the four children he fathered with the daughter.

Freeman has also plead guilty to harassment charges and had multiple protective orders filed by his ex-wife, according to Webre. The last of those orders expired less than a month ago.

“Clearly, there has been a very difficult and complicated divorce/custody issue going on,” Webre said in a late-night news conference Thursday.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner ruled the cause of death was asphyxia (strangulation) due to suffocation and drowning for Denise Freeman. Authorities believe she was the first victim killed.

Mass Shooting – Wounded – Man (Houma, LA)

male

Double Shooting – Killed – Joseph Taylor (Shreveport, LA)

Joseph Taylor

A man who walked in on a home invasion robbery at his residence fought with the intruder, took the gun away and shot and killed his attacker, Shreveport police said. The intended victim was shot in the leg before he got the gun away from his attacker, police said. His wounds were not life threatening, police said. Police today were searching for a second suspect, who fled after the robbery went awry. The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. at a house in the 5700 block of Sussex Street. Police said Joseph Taylor, 22, and another man forced their way into the house and threatened to kill a female victim and a juvenile who were inside. The two robbers began to ransack the house and then fired warning shots in an apparent attempt to intimidate the victims, police said. While the robbery was underway, Willie Lee Baker arrived home and was confronted by the suspects, police said. Baker, 29, told police that one of the men shot him in the leg before he started fighting back, got the gun from his attacker and then shot him, police said. Taylor was shot in the head and pronounced dead at LSU Hospital, police said. Detectives said they have not determined why Baker’s house was targeted.

Killed – Milton Schoen (Harahan, LA)

male

A Harahan woman who shot and killed her ex-boyfriend Saturday evening told investigators she fired after he attacked her and her 16-year-old son, authorities said.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office did not arrest Deborah Zito, 53, in the shooting death of Milton Schoen, 50, but the agency has classified the case a homicide and will consult with the district attorney’s office, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.

The shooting occurred at Zito’s residence in the 8200 block of Ferrera Drive in Harahan just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Schoen died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, said Mark Bone, chief death investigator for the Jefferson Parish coroner’s office.

HARAHAN, La. Police say a woman fatally shot her ex-boyfriend and said it occurred in self-defense because she and her son had been attacked.

Deborah Zito, 53, told authorities that she shot Milton Schoen, 50, after he attacked her and her 16-year-old son at a home in the 8200 block of Ferrara Drive, police said. Schoen was pronounced dead on the scene with a single gunshot wound to the stomach area.

‘Ms. Zito appeared intoxicated and was complaining of pain to her head, neck and arm. She claimed the injuries were sustained as a result of being physically attacked by Milton Schoen,’
said a statement from the JPSO. Zito was taken to Ochsner Hospital for treatment.

Zito’s son told authorities he had seen Schoen physically abuse his mother several times in the past. About 15 minutes before the shooting, the son said he came home with a friend and Schoen was standing outside his mother’s bedroom, according to the JPSO. Schoen went into the bedroom and the two boys went into the living room.

‘Approximately ten minutes later he heard a gunshot and seconds thereafter he heard his mother call out ‘Son, get in here.’ He immediately ran to the room where he observed Schoen standing at the foot of the bed and his mother was seated on the bed pointing a black handgun at him,’ said a statement from the JPSO. The friend who came home with Zito’s son told a detective ‘Schoen looked angry and his mother appeared frightened. At that point Schoen responded by shoving Daniel in the chest with both hands causing him to fall back and hit the wall. Deborah Zito fired one shot at which time Schoen fell to the ground.’

Triple Shooting – Killed – Robin Dillon (Franklinton, LA)

Robin Dillon

FRANKLINTON, La. – Neighbors of a Franklinton woman who was found shot to death inside a burned-out trailer Friday morning say they are not surprised.

The victim’s son is now in custody, and two others were wounded after a quiet night on a Franklinton Street turned to mayhem.

“This is like too close,” said resident Nina Dillon. “This is in my mom’s backyard.”

Police say 20-year-old Christopher Dillon went down the street Thursday night and shot a neighbor in the arm as he tried to rob him.

Dillon then ran to the trailer he shared with his mother, 42-year-old Robin Dillon.

When he got back to the trailer, police rushed in, and Dillon emerged from a hallway carrying a gun. He fired at officer Chad Dorsett, striking him in the chest and the arm. The officer’s bulletproof vest protected him from serious injury.

Then the trailer caught fire, and as the flames raged, Dillon jumped out of a window, and was captured. After the fire, authorities went inside, and made a grisly discovery.

“When they entered, they found a body in the bed in the back bedroom,” said Washington Parish Chief Deputy Mike Haley.

Robin Dillon was dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities say the incident began around 10 p.m. Thursday night, when 20-year-old Christopher Dillon tried to rob his neighbor for cash, then shot him in the arm. That man is still recovering in a New Orleans hospital.

The second scene then started at the suspect’s home after he ran almost a football field away after the armed robbery and shooting down the street.

‘Police officers approached the residence, saw the door somewhat, not all the way closed, yelled for somebody to identify themselves, they went in and said they could smell gunpowder,’ said Louisiana State Police Master Trooper Greg Marchand, ‘They could see one hand and not the other, he said he was surrendering. As he made the corner of the hallway, he brandished a weapon, shot one time. It went through the trailer wall and hit an officer.’

Dillon was pulled from the burning home and arrested, but once the fire was out, the body of his mother, 44-year-old Robin Dillon, was discovered. The coroner’s office says she died from a single gunshot wound.

Franklinton Police say they had been called to the home several times for domestic issues between the mother and son. The Dillon’s family lives in Mississippi and Robin’s father told a neighbor she was his only child.

Double Shooting – Killed – Galen Scott (Nairn, LA)

Galen Scott1

NAIRN, La. – An 18-year-old man hog hunting with two close friends accidentally shot them when he mistook them for the hogs he sought, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco said.

The shots from the shotgun of Wyatt Evans struck and killed 18-year-old Galen Scott and injured 17-year-old Cody Jones.

Evans has been booked at the Belle Chasse jail without bail on charges of negligent homicide and negligent injuring.

The incident occurred Thursday around 5:45 p.m. in Nairn, just south of Port Sulphur.

According to Greco, deputies received a call of two people shot in Nairn and those who arrived on the scene found Scott suffering from wounds to the head and leg, he was pronounced dead on the scene. Jones was shot in the legs and was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Greco said that based on interviews with Evans, Jones and other witnesses, it appears that the three friends went hog hunting in a wooded area and that prior to the trip, they had smoked marijuana.

After the sun had set, Greco said that Scott and Jones began walking towards Evans and that he observed two objects about 75 feet away and, thinking they were the hogs they sought, he fired back-to-back rounds of buckshot from his gun, striking both young men.

Greco said Evans immediately ran to their aid and the Plaquemines sheriff’s office was called to the scene.

Killed – Hector Trochez (New Orleans, LA)

Hector Trochez

According to the New Orleans Police, an armored truck guard who was unloading money at a bank in New Orleans was fatally shot when three men approached him just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Reports say the robbers took the money and drove off. The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Hector Trochez of Kenner.

Police say Trochez was found beside a Loomis vehicle outside of the Chase Bank at South Carrollton and South Claiborne avenues.

NOPD says the suspects abandoned the first vehicle they were in at Adam and Green Streets and fled in a gray Hyundai with a partial plate of 141654.

NEW ORLEANS – At around 10:45 Wednesday morning, three men unleashed a hail of gunfire, ambushing and killing an armored truck guard as he unloaded cash in the parking lot of the Chase Bank at Carrollton and South Claiborne.

The armored truck stopped in the parking lot of the busy Uptown bank, followed by a gray Chevy Tahoe. Loomis armed guard Hector Trochez unloaded more than $265,000 and turned to wheel the currency into the building.

In a flash, three masked gunmen jumped from the Tahoe, shooting at Trochez without warning. He attempted to return fire, but his resistance abruptly ended when a shot from an assault rifle pierced his head. As the echoes of at least 15 gunshots reverberated in the air, the gunmen grabbed the bags of cash and sped away. Inside the armored vehicle, a 22-year-old guard sobbed in shock, while Trochez, her 45-year-old partner, lay dead on the asphalt behind the truck.

Double Murder – Killed – Lisa Arbuthnot (New Orleans, LA)

NEWORLEANS- Police say an attack that left a mother and daughter dead in New Orleans East was not a random attack.

Police say officers arrived at the Wind Run apartments on the I-10 Service Road shortly after 3:15 a.m. Monday. Officers responded to a call of shots fired inside an apartment.

They found 20-year-old Ryesha Arbuthnot stabbed to death in the parking lot. She had also been shot several times. Her mother, 45-year-old Lisa Arbuthnot was found inside the apartment dead from gunshot wounds to the head.

Killed – Kenneth Young (New Orleans, LA)

Kenneth Young

An 18-year-old man found stuffed in the trunk of a bloody car abandoned in a Slidell wooded area on Sunday morning (Dec. 15) has been identified by the Orleans Parish coroner as Kenneth Young.

Young was shot near the intersection of Peoples and Jasmine streets in Gentilly and died from several gunshot wounds to the head, said John Gagliano, chief investigator at the Orleans Parish coroner’s office.

NOPD spokesman officer Garry Flot declined to say when the shooting happened, citing the ongoing investigation.

Neighbors called Slidell police on Sunday about 8:30 a.m. to report a suspicious white Infinity car backed up into a wooded area on Teddy Avenue between 9th and 10th streets. There was a “large amount” of blood inside the car and some blood smeared along its exterior, Slidell police spokesman Detective Daniel Seuzeneau said on Monday.

NEW ORLEANS – Authorities say a man whose body was found Sunday morning in the trunk of a car in Slidell was killed in New Orleans’ Gentilly neighborhood.

John Gagliano, of the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, said 18-year-old Kenneth Young was shot to death late Saturday or early Sunday.

New Orleans police booked Diamante Bartholomew, 17, and Corey Levy, 21, on charges of second-degree murder in the Dec. 15 killing of 18-year-old Kenneth Young, a senior at Landry-Walker High School in Algiers. Police also have arrested Jude Braud, 18, on a charge of being an accomplice to the murder. They were all arrested last week, records show.

According to a detective’s report, the killing stemmed from a marijuana deal. Phone records connected the dead teen to Levy, Bartholomew’s cousin, who told detectives he had taken a group of men to buy marijuana when the shooting happened at Peoples Avenue and Verbena Street.

Double Shooting – Killed – Jared Christopher Vincent (Baton Rouge, LA)

Jared Christopher Vincent

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office identified the person who died in a fatal shooting Wednesday morning in Gardere as 22-year-old Jared Christopher Vincent.

Vincent lived at the address on the 9400 block of Pecan Ridge Drive where the shooting took place, according to the sheriff’s office.

One other person was injured in the shooting, which occurred at about 5 a.m.

A total of six people have been arrested in the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in the Gardere neighborhood of Baton Rouge this week.

More details are also emerging about what happened Wednesday night at the apartment at 9143 Ridge Pecan Drive, in an apparently chaotic robbery and drug deal gone bad that left one man dead and three men with gunshot wounds. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office officials said a group of five men went to the apartment of Jared Christopher Vincent “with the sole purpose of stealing money and drugs from Vincent.”

Only one man, 20-year-old Demarcus James of Prairieville, went inside Vincent’s apartment and is the suspected shooter, according to the sheriff’s office. The others stayed in the car or outside the apartment.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Demarcus James (DOB 10-4-93), of 16111 Aikens Road Prairieville, La. for First Degree Murder in Wednesday morning’s shooting.

According to reports, James arrived at a hospital in a neighboring parish shortly after the shooting with multiple gunshot wounds.

The co-defendant, Hargrove, told detectives that he went with James to Ridge Pecan to purchase narcotics. He stated James went inside to negotiate the purchase, and he later heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the residence. Hargrove admitted to shooting one man, a roommate of the deceased, as he fled from the apartment. Moments later, James allegedly exited armed with a pistol and suffering from several gunshot wounds. James then fled the scene prior to detectives arrival.

Detectives located James at the hospital and took him into custody this evening. He was transported and booked into parish prison. The investigation is still ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available. Once James is processed a booking photo will be available upon request.

EBRSO Arrests Two in Connection With Wednesday Shooting

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested two men today in connection with the shooting that occurred Wednesday morning at approximately 5:00 a.m. at 9143 Ridge Pecan Drive that left one man injured and another dead.

Twenty-two-year-old Jared Christopher Vincent of 9143 Ridge Pecan was found dead at the scene inside his apartment. Detectives also discovered a large amount of marijuana inside the apartment where the deceased was found as well as evidence of a struggle and gunfire.

Aaron Hargrove, 19, of 39155 Lee Stevens Rd. Prairieville, La. is charged with Principal to First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.

Hargrove admitted to detectives that he went to the apartment to purchase marijuana Wednesday morning. He stated that a short time later, he was outside the apartment when he heard gunfire. He stated he saw one of the men flee from the apartment, at which time he admitted to shooting him in the back. The man shot was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Patrick Anderson, 20, of 41060 Merrit Evans Road Prairieville, La. is also charged with Obstruction of Justice.

According to reports, Anderson arrived at a local hospital not long after the shooting with a gunshot wound to the hand. Anderson told detectives that a family member arrived at his home with blood on his clothes and in possession of several pistols. The family member allegedly told Anderson that the pistols had been used in a shooting in Baton Rouge earlier that morning. Anderson agreed to clean the pistols and hide them. He alleged that a pistol accidentally discharged and struck him in the hand during the course of unloading it. Detectives were able to recover the two hidden pistols believed to be used in the shooting.

Triple Shooting – Killed – Emmanuel Jethro (New Orleans, LA)

Emmanuel Jethro

A man killed in a triple shooting in eastern New Orleans on Tuesday night (Dec. 10) has been identified by the Orleans Parish coroner.

Emmanuel Jethro, 33, died at about 8 p.m. after being shot several times in the 11900 block of Hayne Boulevard, said John Gagliano, chief investigator at the Orleans Parish coroner’s office.

Two other men — ages 17 and 20 — were also shot at a gas station on the corner of Hayne Boulevard and Bullard Avenue, and were listed in stable condition at a local hospital, NOPD spokesman Garry Flot said.

The report of the shooting came in Tuesday about 7:35 p.m., the spokesman said. The NOPD has not made any arrests in the case.

New details have emerged in last month’s shooting death of a Gretna man who New Orleans police say was gunned down by 17-year-old Tracy Bell at an eastern New Orleans gas station.

Though Bell is accused of fatally wounding 33-year-old Emmanuel Jethro and faces a charge of second-degree murder, investigators believe it was Jethro’s 17-year-old nephew who initiated the fateful shootout after a verbal altercation turned violent, an arrest report says. Bell, who was wounded in the exchange, surrendered to authorities last Friday at his mother’s home, which is less than two miles from the crime scene.

Police responding to reports of gunfire on the night of Dec. 10 arrived at the Family Ranch Discount Gas station to find blood, 13 spent bullet casings of different calibers, and one live 9 mm cartridge, the warrant says. What they didn’t find were victims, or a clear picture of what had transpired.

But after reports of gunshot patients turning up in private cars minutes later at both Interim LSU Public Hospital and Tulane Medical Center, investigators began piecing together the details of the shootout. Based on interviews, seized belongings, and a review of the gas station’s surveillance tapes, police determined that Bell and Jethro’s nephew not only knew each other, but had been texting each other about firearms before the confrontation took place. The detective did not elaborate on the details of the firearms discussion.

NOPD Detective Nicholas Williams said in the warrant Jethro was in the front passenger seat of a Chevrolet Impala driven by his girlfriend, with his nephew a passenger in the back seat. Bell and a 20-year-old man pulled up behind them at the gas station in a Nissan Maxima. Bell initially told investigators he and his associate were waiting for a gas pump. The driver of the Impala told police her car had been pursued and run off a road by the Maxima, before stopping at the gas station.

Jethro got out of the Impala and began arguing with the Maxima’s passengers, which escalated into a physical confrontation, the warrant says. Jethro’s nephew also left the Impala and told its driver to pop open the trunk, from which he pulled a .40-caliber pistol and began firing, the detective wrote in the warrant. Bell told police he got a 9mm handgun from his car and returned fire, striking the unarmed Jethro twice, the warrant says. At least one shot punctured Jethro’s femoral artery, and bleeding from that leg wound proved fatal. Bell told police he discarded the weapon after escaping the scene.

Killed – Joseph H. Stevens Jr. (Loranger, LA)

Joseph H. Stevens Jr.

A 33-year-old Loranger man was fatally shot in what appears to be a hunting accident that occurred Friday near Highway 1062 in Loranger.

Joseph H. Stevens Jr.’s body has been turned over to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, authorities said.

Stevens and Stacey M. Trapp, 37, also of Loranger, hunted on property near 55202 Highway 1062 and decided to head back to their vehicles around 2:30 p.m.

Trapp told law enforcers they searched for an easier crossing point after coming across a net wire fence.

Trapp decided to crawl under some bushes with his .270 caliber bolt-action rifle slung around his right shoulder. His rifle went off as he squatted down, Trapp said, and a bullet struck Stevens.
Trapp called 911 for help.

“Investigators believe that Stevens was killed instantly and do not suspect foul play at this time,” Wildlife and Fisheries stated in a statement issued Saturday.

Double Shooting – Killed – Travis Moses (Houma, LA)

Travis Moses

Police are searching for a person of interest in a shooting that killed a Houma man Sunday night.

Travis Moses, 45, 1102 Lafayette St., was shot just after 8 p.m. during a dispute at the BP Gas Station at Barataria Avenue and Tunnel Boulevard, Houma Police said.

Responding officers learned that Moses was taken to a local hospital by family members, police said in a news release.

Moses sustained injuries to his upper torso and later died.

Officers also learned that another victim was hit in the arm and was treated at Terrebonne General Medical Center, police said.

The suspect sought in connection with a Dec. 1 shooting death outside a Houma gas station is now behind bars, police said.

Ketrelle Andre’ Bolden, 23, 155 Jennings Lane, turned himself in Monday, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said.

Bolden is accused of fatally shooting 45-year-old Travis Moses of Houma during a fight at the BP Gas Station, 905 Barataria Ave. Moses was hit in the upper body and another unidentified person was shot in the arm, police said.

Surveillance video from a nearby business put Bolden at the scene and paved the way for arrest warrants for manslaughter and carrying an illegal weapon, police said.

Houma police tell The Courier the shooting took place when Moses was fighting with another man, police believe to be Ketrelle Andre’ Bolden, who shot him at the service station. Moses died of the injuries to his upper body and another person was struck in the arm.
