CARROLL COUNTY, Va. —A 13-year-old accidentally shot and killed his 50-year-old father while they were deer hunting in Carroll County on Tuesday, Virginia wildlife officials said.
Sansford Ray Semones, 50, of Fancy Gap, was shot with a .50-caliber muzzleloader on private property off Willis Gap Road in Laurel Fork, said officials with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Semones died at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that Semones’ teenage son shot him after mistaking him for a deer from about 150 yards away, wildlife officials said. The teen’s name wasn’t released.
