ISLE OF WIGHT – A 17-year-old boy shot Monday in Isle of Wight has died from his injuries, according to the Isle of Wight Sheriff Office.
Deandre Jamar Thomas was shot shortly before 4 p.m. inside a home at 5448 Old Stage Highway, outside Smithfield, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. He was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m.
“It was accidental,” says Evelyn Cooper, DJ’s grandmother. It was an accident.”
“Don’t play with guns, in any form or fashion,” says Toby Thomas, DJ’s uncle. “A gun can be used as a weapon of war, or a weapon of destruction.”
“Please put the guns down,” Cooper says. “Young boys, put the guns down.”
