For two days, Kirk Green had spent hours at the AutoZone store at Elysian Fields and North Robertson streets trying to fix his Chevy Tahoe. There was a stubborn issue with his alternator that was giving him trouble, said Tim Pugh, an auto mechanic.
Green, 21, was still working on the problem behind the AutoZone on Marigny Street when someone gunned him down around 2 p.m. Friday. About 10 shots rang out, neighbors said, sending people diving between cars and hitting the pavement.
Green was shot multiple times, police said. His body, clad in peach-colored shorts and a white T-shirt, lay in a small pool of blood beside the Tahoe. Investigators laid down at least 11 evidence cones at the scene in the St. Roch neighborhood.
