A Norfolk, Va., grand jury will be asked to decide whether a sailor from Wisconsin should be tried for the March 9 shooting death of his shipmate, Yorkville native Kristopher Klubert.

Police allege Klubert, 25, was shot in the face by his shipmate, Austin T. Greening, 22.

Greening remains free on $25,000 bond on charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm in commission of a murder after a Commonweatlh District Court in Norfolk found probable cause to send the case to the grand jury.

The two men, said to be friends, served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Carter Hall. They were due to ship out on a new deployment the morning after Klubert’s death. Greening had been a guest at the Klubert family home in Yorkville, authorities said.

Witnesses say the two had been playing video games and handling several guns known to have been in the residence at the time of the shooting. 911 callers put the time of the shooting around 7 p.m.
