GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Goochland man fatally shot himself at a party Thursday night, according to the Goochland Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the 2300 block of Camelback Road after a witness called to report a shooting Thursday night.

Deputies said 20-year-old Christopher Ryan Benson suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and later died at the hospital.

David Cash Raymond, 20, of New Line Road in Gum Spring was arrested for Reckless Handling of a Firearm.  Raymond was released and will face a preliminary hearing on Monday April 1 at 8:45 a.m. in Goochland General District Court.

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VA-(WTVR) News of an Army specialist’s death is still hitting the Goochland community hard.

Sheriff Agnew says the man who owned the gun told friends that the gun wasn’t loaded. He also pointed the gun at his own head a few times and pulled the trigger and nothing happened, said the Sheriff.

When Benson took the gun and tried the same thing, the outcome was tragically different.

Police are calling this an accidental shooting.
