Killed – Sonny Turner (Bassett, VA)

36-year-old Thomas Dewayne Turner of 130 Friendship Drive in Bassett has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He’s currently in the Henry County jail without bond.

Turner’s arrest follows an incident that happened Friday morning at around 2:26 at 180 Blackwell Road in the Bassett community. That’s when Henry County deputies responded to a reported shooting, and when they arrived on the scene, they located one man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, during the course of their investigation, they learned that the shooting victim, 44-year-old Sonny James Turner of 409 Harris Street in Martinsville, and Thomas Dewayne Turner, were involved in an argument which turned into a physical altercation.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office alleges that it was during the altercation that Thomas Turner produced a weapon and shot his cousin, Sonny James Turner.
