Killed – Kevin Brooks (Sussex, VA)

SUSSEX, Va. (AP) – Virginia has recorded its second hunting fatality of the year.

Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Conservation Police say 46-year-old Kevin Brooks of Virginia Beach was shot to death Wednesday while turkey hunting near Waverly.

Lee Walker of the game department tells The Virginian-Pilot that Brooks was hunting with 70-year-old Raymond Weidner of Virginia Beach. Walker says that after the two separated, Weidner saw movement and misidentified his target, fatally shooting Brooks.

The Sussex County Sheriff’s Department received a call around 10 a.m. for a man shot near the town of Waverly, off Shingleton Road.
