The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a murder/suicide at approximately 2:20pm at 7812 Willow Grove Blvd.
According to a press release, Karen Diamond, 47, shot herself and her 84-year-old mother, Eula Diamond.
Karen Diamond also reportedly shot her dog in the incident.
Karen was a gastroenterologist at an outpatient clinic in Baton Rouge who was once affiliated with General Health Systems.
EBRSO received a call earlier today from a friend of the Eula Diamond requesting a welfare check on the woman.
When deputies arrived on scene the two bodies were discovered.
BATON ROUGE- Deputies discovered a two women shot dead along with a dog in a murder-suicide Monday afternoon.
Eula Diamond, 84, was found dead with her daughter, Dr. Karen Diamond, 47, inside a house in an upscale, south Baton Rouge neighborhood about 2:00 p.m. Deputies found the bodies when they were asked to do a welfare check by a friend of one of the two women.
Investigators said Dr. Diamond shot and killed her mother and the dog before turning the gun on herself. The shooting happened sometime between Saturday evening and Monday afternoon.
Dr. Diamond’s close friends say she had a huge heart, but was overwhelmed by a deep and dark depression. She last reached out to some of her friends in a Saturday evening email.
“She posted this in email form to five of us whom I assume she deemed were her close friends,” said Dr. Alan Bowers a man who says he knew Diamond for 26 years, the two attended medical school together.
“At the very close of it she just typed, ‘I’m sorry’ And that was it.”
Dr. Diamond had stopped practicing in Baton Rouge July 2013.
