FINDLAY — A Findlay man was fatally injured in a drive-by shooting in this city early today, authorities said.
Joe Gutierrez III, 34, was taken to Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Findlay police.
The shooting occurred about 1:10 a.m. on East Foulke Avenue at Crystal Avenue, police said.
The victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle when a car pulled up, according to police. He stepped out of his vehicle and one of two men in the second car fired a handgun at him, police said. The identity of the driver of the car Mr. Gutierrez was in was not released.
After the shooting, the suspects’ car drove away, heading north on Crystal, police said. The car was possibly an older-model dark-color Pontiac.
Trial dates have been set for two Findlay men charged with murder in the death of Joe Gutierrez III.
Ralph G. Harris III, 20, and Montre O. Robinson, 21, on Thursday returned to Hancock County Common Pleas Court for hearings in their cases.
Harris is scheduled for a final pretrial on Jan. 27 and a jury trial on Feb. 18.
The Findlay gunman who shot and killed Joe Gutierrez III, to retaliate for an assault, was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in prison.
Ralph G. Harris III, 21, apologized for the shooting to more than a dozen of Gutierrez’s relatives who gathered in Hancock County Common Pleas Court.
“It was never in my plan that night, and I wish that night wasn’t so coincidental, but right now I’m here to take responsibility for what I did,” said Harris, who previously pleaded guilty to a murder charge.
He said he continues to feel regret.
“As to why I did it, I ask myself that every day,” Harris said.
