Triple Shooting – Killed – Bryant Ma (San Mateo, CA)

Bryant Ma SAN MATEO — A San Mateo man was wounded during a gunbattle late Wednesday with three thieves — that left a San Jose man dead and another suspect hospitalized — after they burst into his home, police said. Bryant Ma, 23, was the alleged armed robber killed in the gunfire that erupted about 11:30 p.m. inside a home in the 1500 block of Lodi Avenue, according to the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. The two other suspects, whose names were not released, were expected to be arrested on murder charges for his death, San Mateo police Deputy Chief Mike Callagy said. The 24-year-old resident who fired at the alleged robbers was wounded in the shoulder but was expected to survive his injuries. Callagy declined to say what the thieves took during the home invasion robbery and said it remains unclear why the suspects targeted the home on a typically quiet residential street. Police said they are not aware of any previous problems at the home that could be related to the robbery. A victim of a home-invasion robbery in San Mateo opened fire on his assailants, killing a suspect and injuring another, police said. The shooting happened at a home on the 1500 block of Lodi Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The resident, a 24-year-old man, was found at the scene suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the man and three other people were home when three assailants tried a home-invasion robbery, said San Mateo Deputy Police Chief Mike Callagy. Early Thursday, all three suspects showed up at Regional Medical Center in San Jose with gunshot wounds. One, 23-year-old Bryant Ma of San Jose, died at the hospital, and another was recovering, police said. The robbers “entered the San Mateo residence with guns drawn planning to rob the victim of drugs and money,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. The suspects, Bryant Ma, 23, who was killed, Edwin Lee, 21, and Bunn Vo, 22, allegedly demanded that the 24-year-old resident open his safe. A pregnant victim was reportedly held at knifepoint during the ordeal. http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_24026374/san-jose-man-killed-san-mateo-gun-battle http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/Cops-home-robber-killed-by-resident-in-San-Mateo-4788969.php http://patch.com/california/sanmateo/san-mateo-police-release-suspect-names-in-wednesdays-shooting http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_24022255/san-mateo-police-at-least-one-wounded-during http://www.smdailyjournal.com/articles/lnews/2013-09-19/san-mateo-home-invasion-suspects-delay-entering-pleas/1775619.html http://www.smdailyjournal.com/articles/lnews/2014-12-05/da-no-death-penalty-in-home-invasion-murder/1776425134495.html http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/da-drugs-money-behind-deadly-gun-battle-in-san-mateo-home/Content?oid=2581502 http://sfbay.ca/2014/09/02/home-invasion-suspects-face-murder-charge/
