POSTED: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2013, 1:39 PM

Police are seeking suspects in a morning homicide in West Philadelphia.

Someone shot a 37-year-old man multiple times about 10:45 a.m. on Christian Street near 55th, said Officer Christine O’Brien, a police spokeswoman. Paramedics rushed the man to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he died at 11:14 a.m., O’Brien said. The victim’s name wasn’t released, because his family hadn’t been notified.

Killed – William Terrell (West York, PA)

William Terrell

Police are searching for a man who is accused of fatally shooting another man Wednesday night in West York.

The shooting victim was identified Thursday in a news release as William Terrell, 39.

He was shot multiple times Wednesday in the 1400 block of West King Street and later succumbed to his injuries despite undergoing emergency surgery at York Hospital, according to police.

Police received a 911 call at 5:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired with an injured person.

A West York patrolman who responded to the call saw a man walking near the shooting scene. That man fled from the 1400 block of West Philadelphia Street after being spotted and ran toward a residential yard in the 1400 block of Stanton Street, police said.

A search that included authorities from several York County police departments and two police K-9s ensued, but the suspect was not found. Police called off the search for the suspect sometime after 8 p.m.

Police believe the November shooting death of a West York man was ordered by a gang leader after the man botched a drug delivery in West Virginia and then couldn’t recoup the money, according to search warrants.

Since William Terrell’s death on Nov. 20, West York Police have been filing warrants to search cellphone records, Facebook data, vehicles and homes related to the 37-year-old’s death.

Those warrants tell the story of a man who was living a “street life” in which he was affiliated with a drug-trafficking gang, and a “home life,” which he kept separated.

But those two lives came crashing together Nov. 20, as someone shot Terrell numerous times in the parking lot of Suzanne’s Wash House, in the 1200 block of West King Street. Terrell died at York Hospital during surgery, West York Borough Police Chief Justin Seibel said.

In search warrants, police map out a network of individuals in the York area, allegedly engaged in drug trafficking, with whom Terrell was associated.

The warrants say Terrell’s death was in retaliation for him accidentally destroying a brick of cocaine he was to have sold in West Virginia, just days before his death. They state that a person “had William Terrell killed because of the loss of drugs/drug money…”

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Carlos Harper (New Castle, PA)

Carlos Harper

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. —A man suspected of killing his children’s mother outside a store where she worked was found dead late Monday morning after state police and a SWAT team surrounded a Beaver County apartment.

State police said 27-year-old Carlos Harper died Monday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the home on Third Avenue in New Brighton.

Police said Harper shot Mariah Anderson, 22, after she was escorted to her car by a coworker outside a Walmart in Union Township, near New Castle, on Sunday night.

Investigators say Anderson had just finished her shift at the store and was driving away in her SUV when several shots were fired into the vehicle at about 11:15 p.m. Anderson died on the way to the hospital.

“There is some video from Walmart and some witness interviews that were done that led us to the suspect,” Lt. Eric Hermick said.

After police arrived at the home in New Brighton about 8 a.m. Monday, they said one shot was fired from inside the residence, and one round did come outside. No shots were fired by police.

Anderson had three children, ages 1, 3, and 4, according to her sister, who also said that Anderson had recently broken up with the father of her children. She said that Anderson had filed for a protection-from-abuse order, and that police had taken the man away from the store a couple of times before Sunday.

“Every day, he’ll be at her job, sitting out, waiting for her to get off so he could follow her. Every day, she would have to call the police,” Anderson’s sister said. “It got to the point where he was hiding in her trunk of her car and just following her around from work and having people go to her job, watching her, things of that nature.”

Killed – Demetry Presley (Philadelphia, PA)

Demetry Presley

Lance Smith, the man arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a Sicklerville, N.J. man on South Street in November, was ordered to stand trial Tuesday.

Smith, who turns 25 Wednesday, is charged with murder and related counts in the Nov. 17 shooting of Demetry Presley, 21.

Smith is being held without bail.

The shooting happened at 1:30 a.m. a few steps away from the Mixed Plate Lounge, a restaurant-turned-nightclub that the victim’s family rented out to stage a party.

Minutes before the shooting, Presley and several of his brothers ejected Smith from the club after he grabbed a woman by the throat.

Once outside, witnesses said Smith pulled a chrome semiautomatic handgun and shot Presley five times. Police caught Smith shortly afterwards. Court records indicate he is being represented by defense attorney Brian McMonagle.

Killed – Richard T. Hogue (Ellwood City, PA)

Richard T. Hogue

Richard T. Hogue, 28, of Ellwood City died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, Coroner Russell S. Noga said Sunday.

He died Saturday at 2:28 a.m., less than a half an hour after arriving at The Ellwood City Hospital, Noga said.

Leon Platt, 26, of 474 Oregon Ave., Rochester, is in Lawrence County Jail on $100,000 bond after being accused of shooting at vehicles and a home just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Lawrence Avenue. According to a criminal complaint filed with the office of District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright, Platt and a 17-year-old girl, who has not been charged, fired handguns at a parked vehicle, and a stray bullet went through the wall of a nearby apartment building.

As the anniversary of her son’s death approaches, a brokenhearted mom wants the community to remember how he died.

Deborah Murdoch of Enon Valley has rallied two local police departments and the Lawrence County district attorney to sponsor a gun buy-back program for people to voluntarily turn over unwanted firearms to authorities.

Murdoch sees this as a way to get guns off the streets and try to prevent the senseless way her son died — murder by gun — from happening to someone else’s child.

Richard Hogue, 28, was shot to death around 1:45 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Walnut Ridge apartments on Loop Street in Ellwood City, while out with friends.

Leon Platt, 26, of Rochester, Beaver County, is in jail, accused of opening fire on Hogue as he stood up from a couch following an argument.

Killed – Drew Ferguson (Malvern, PA)

Drew Ferguson1

MALVERN, Pa., (CBS) — The Chester County District Attorney says the former neighbor and long-time friend of a Malvern man whose body was found Monday inside the home he shared with his grandmother has been charged with first-degree murder.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan says 23-year-old Merritt Dudas, who grew up next door to 21-year-old Drew Ferguson, is charged with shooting him with a stolen handgun, wrapping his body in a sleeping bag and a tarp and then putting a pile of debris over it to conceal it.

Hogan says the murder occurred last Friday and apparently was sparked by an argument.

MALVERN – The Chester County District Attorney’s office Tuesday charged an acquaintance in the death of a 21-year-old man who was found shot to death near his home in the borough Monday evening.

Authorities identified 24-year-old Merritt Dudas of Collegeville as the suspect who is charged with murder, robbery, theft and abuse of a corpse.

According to Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan, the investigation found the attack was not random and the two men had known each other for years.

Hogan said for a period of time Dudas lived in the home next to Ferguson and then with Ferguson at the residence on Miner Street when Dudas was without a place to live.

According to the criminal complaint, Dudas was arrested by police on Tuesday and confessed to the killing.

Hogan said there appeared to be an argument between the men, perhaps over drugs or property, but said he was unsure what the motive for the killing was.

“The argument by any definition was senseless,” he said.

Double Murder/Suicide – Killed – Christina White (Hempfield, PA)

Christina White1

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. —A man and a woman were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot at their apartment complex, and the suspected shooter was later found dead at his home in the same building, police said.

State police said Phil Cancilla, 51, fired the fatal shots Wednesday morning at Hempfield Heights, where he had been involved in “an ongoing neighbor dispute regarding noise” with Christina White, 23, and Timothy Reffner, 30, who lived above him.

“To me, this is horrific,” Trooper Steve Limani said at a news conference Thursday. “How could you do this to two innocent people, whatever the case? I don’t care what the dispute may be.”

Someone reported gunshots about 7 a.m. at the apartment complex off Route 30. Outside, police found the bodies of Reffner, who the coroner said was shot six times, and White, a part-time corrections officer at the Westmoreland County Prison, who had five gunshot wounds.

White’s father told Channel 4 Action News the couple had been together for more than two years and planned to get married.

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. —The man police say shot and killed his neighbors before killing himself Wednesday was previously found guilty of disorderly conduct after a neighbor pressed charges against him.

Diane Dolton said Philip Cancilla, 51, peeped in her window in the middle of the night in 2007.

Police said Cancilla had a long-standing feud against White and Reffner. He lived in the apartment directly beneath theirs and often complained to apartment management about the upstairs tenants being too loud. The final complaint, police said, was Nov. 3 when White, Reffner and Cancilla were all given verbal reprimands by apartment management.

After Wednesday’s shooting, police said they found Cancilla dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He left a note on a yellow post-it that read, “Can only be provoked for so long before exploding.”

The pair were outside the apartment building and leaving to do their laundry when Mr. Cancilla started shooting with .22- and .45-caliber handguns, both registered to him, police said. The two were found dead in the parking lot.

Double Murder/Suicide – Killed – Timothy Reffner (Hempfield, PA)

Killed – Monique Nixon (York, PA)

Monique Nixon

YORK, Pa. —York police have charged a man in a fatal shooting that happened early Wednesday.

Christopher Schwenk, 25, of York, is charged with criminal homicide. He is accused of fatally shooting Monique Nixon, 49, about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of South Queen Street.

Investigators said she was not the intended target.

Eddie Gallon III, 35, of York, is wanted for questioning in the homicide, police said.

From a city block away at around 3:30 a.m. on a November night, First Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Russell said Christopher Lee Schwenk Jr. thought that Monique Nixon was Eddie Gallon III.

Both were dressed in dark clothes. Nixon was wearing a dark hat. Gallon was in a dark hoodie.

Schwenk, 26, and Gallon, 37, had just tangled over another woman on South Queen Street at Hope Avenue in York, Russell said. And Gallon had run off.

Nixon, 49, who knew neither man, was walking by the area of Sun’s Deli Market.

“Tragically, unfortunately, he hit an innocent bystander,” Russell said Monday in her opening statement.

Schwenk, 26, of the 200 block of South Queen Street, now is on trial for first- and third-degree murder for Nixon’s death. He is being prosecuted under the legal theory of transferred intent, Russell said.

After two days of deliberation, a jury on Monday found Christopher Lee Schwenk Jr. guilty of third-degree murder for the killing of an innocent bystander during a 2013 domestic dispute in York City.

The jury of nine men and three women deliberated about 12 hours — seven hours on Friday and five on Monday — before finding the 26-year-old guilty in the shooting death of 49-year-old Monique Nixon. However, the jury cleared him of first-degree murder charge and the lesser voluntary manslaughter charge.

Killed – Eduardo Daniel Madera (Wilkes-Barre, PA)

male

Wilkes-Barre police have launched an investigation into an apparent homicide after a man’s body was found in a Heights section home early Wednesday.

The body of 46-year-old Eduardo Daniel Madera was discovered at his home at 320 E. Northampton St. about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:25 a.m., according to the county coroner’s office.

A teenager from Cleveland, Ohio, will spend decades in state prison after pleading guilty Thursday to fatally shooting a man who confronted him burglarizing a Wilkes-Barre residence.

Lamar Curry-Davis pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and agreed to serve 20 to 40 years in prison as part of a plea deal he reached with prosecutors.

The 19-year-old admitted to fatally shooting Eduardo Daniel Madera, 46, who was found dead with five gunshot wounds in his kitchen at 320 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, early Nov. 6.

Curry-Davis had previously told police he sought to burglarize the home because he knew there was a stash of drugs inside.

“He wanted to steal the heroin and sell it,” Luzerne County Assistant District Attorney Mamie Phillips told Luzerne County Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Howard Kinney (South Abington, PA)

Howard Kinney

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP — South Abington Police said they got a call around 5:30 p.m. Monday, and when they arrived at Abington Manor nursing home they found 79-year-old nursing-home patient, Howard Kinney, and a 42-year-old nurse, Aimee Larkin of Dunmore dead inside a patient room.

Police said it was other employees at Abington Manor who discovered their coworker dead inside a patient room with the resident. Police said it seems the Larkin shot Kinney and then turned the gun on herself.

Police believe it’s a murder-suicide, and that the Larkin and Kinney were alone when it happened. Other than that, they have very little information. There was no note, and employees at Abington Manor said they haven’t noticed any unusual behavior from the nurse or the patient.

Double Shooting – Killed – William Medina (Reading, PA)

William Medina

READING, Pa. (CBS) –– Police are investigating a deadly shooting outside of a convenience store in Reading, Berks County.

Candles burn in front of Krick’s Korner Store for two armed robbers killed Monday by a man police are calling a concerned citizen, but neighbors say he’s a hero.

“I want to shake his hand when I see him,” neighbor Barry Williams said.

At about 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, police say it was caught on tape from inside the store. Two masked men held the owner at gunpoint with shoppers inside.

“These two men came into the store, guns drawn. Clearly they threatened the owner and terrorized the owner with these guns,” Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said.

The men were leaving with cigarettes, money and lottery tickets when they were confronted by a friend of the store owner who lives nearby. Police say he had been working in the basement when he heard the commotion.

“He told these individuals to stop and ‘I’m calling the police’ and that’s when these individuals drew their guns,” Adams said.

The concerned citizen pulled a gun. He is licensed to carry and shot both robbers in the chest, a shooting police say is justified.

In disbelief, family members of the robbery suspects identify them as 19-year-old Robert Decarr and 21-year-old William Adina, a father of four.

Killed – Jerrmie Fields (Homestead, PA)

male

A Homestead man shot and killed his companion early Monday after they had been together at bars in Homestead, Braddock and East Liberty, Allegheny County police said.

Ernest G. Williams, 38, was taken into custody by county police about five hours after Jerrmie Fields, 39, of Pittsburgh was shot to death in the street near East 19th Avenue and McClure Street in Homestead, according to a criminal complaint.

County police said they obtained surveillance video from a camera at Hruska Plumbing that captured the 3:20 a.m. shooting.

In the video, Fields is seen exiting the Ford 500 that Williams drove and walking to the back of it, police said. Williams then gets out, moves toward Fields and fires several shots as Fields tries to turn and flee.

When Fields fell to the ground, county police said, Williams moved closer, shot him again and then drove away.

Killed – Mark Ellis (Philadelphia, PA)

Mark Ellis

WEST PHILADELPHIA – November 3, 2013 — Twenty-three-year-old Mark Ellis worked at Temple University Hospital, had a one-year-old son and another baby on the way.

Around 3:00 Sunday morning, he was shot to death in the 100 block of Dewey Street in West Philadelphia, during a dispute with another man about double-parking in the street.

Ellis had dropped Manire off at her home and was looking to park his Dodge Charger on the block.

Police say the suspected shooter, a 25-year-old off-duty armed security guard, was double-parked in his SUV, waiting to pick up his sister from a party, also on the block.

The two men got into a fight when the security guard wouldn’t move his car to let Ellis by. Both men were armed.

“He then pulls out his gun, my sister’s boyfriend said that he’s licensed to carry too, like, what does that mean? He had his badge out and the next thing you knew, he came over to the car, held his arm out and starting shooting,” said Echols.

Manire ran into her house when the shots rang out, screaming for relatives to call police.

When police arrived, Ellis was dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. Some witnesses said he fired at the security guard first.

Antoine Dudley, 35, of Natrona Heights, was shot to death early this morning in an attack in Beltzhoover in which a minimum of 15 shots from a handgun were fired.

Officers who responded at 3:39 a.m. to a 911 call found the victim, whose name was not immediately released, lying unresponsive on the kitchen floor in a home at 310 East Warrington Ave. He had been shot multiple times in the upper portion of his body, police said.

Killed – Dionne Jordan (Erie, PA)

Dionne Jordan1

What started as a robbery came to a violent end outside of the Tops Friendly Market on East 38th Street, after police open fire on an armed suspect.

“It’s unfortunate that this was necessitated,” said Erie FBI Special Agent Brian Fox. “But we’re happy that no bystanders were injured and no law enforcement officers were injured.”

According to police, it all began around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, after they received reports of a bank robbery.

Witnesses at the scene say the suspect robbed the Widget Financial branch on East 38th and led police on a chase.

According to Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers, officers caught up with the man behind Tops where a getaway vehicle was parked.

At that point, Chief Bowers says a confrontation ensued, and officers shot and killed the suspect.

DECEMBER 4, 2013- The Erie County District Attorney rules police used justified force in the shooting death of a suspected Erie bank robber.District Attorney Jack Daneri says Erie Police had the right to defend themselves after Dionne Jordan reached for a gun and attempted to shoot police. It was back on October 30th when 30-year-old Dionne Jordan allegedly robbed the Widget Financial Bank on East 38th Street….He was fatally shot by police that day…Today, District Attorney Jack Daneri says upon investigation, police discovered Jordan had a 32 caliber revolver, fully loaded with a spent shell casing in the 12 o’clock position. He also had a mask and gloves on him….Daneri says when the coroner arrived on scene; he discovered Jordan had $24 thousand dollars on him from the alleged robbery. That amount matching how much money was missing from Widget Financial.Daneri reports that following the robbery Jordan was heading into the woods by the Tops Friendly Market where his car was parked trying to escape the scene of the robbery.According to Daneri, Jordan did not show his hands, backed up towards his vehicle and reached into his waste band for his gun. That’s when Daneri says the four police officers fired off 19 rounds… Nine of those bullets hit Jordan in the chest.Criminal charges will not be filed against the officers and they will return to work.Daneri declined to comment on whether or not this bank robbery was linked to several others in the area.He says separate investigations are ongoing.

Killed – Kontue Johnson (Philadelphia, PA)

Kontue Johnson

The man, later identified as Kontue Johnson, was struck several times and collapsed to the floor in one of the aisles.

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed execution-style inside a North Philadelphia store Monday, police said.

Officers responded for multiple calls of a shooting on Susquehanna Street near 19th around 4:50 p.m. They found the victim laying inside the store with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, face, chest and abdomen. The victim, whose name was not released, was rushed to Temple University Hospital and declared dead in 30 minutes.

Ballistic evidence indicates at least 14 shots from a semi-automatic handgun were fired, mainly at close range, said Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, noting that the victim was likely targeted. Investigators also viewed surveillance footage from inside the store, which had about 10 customers and employees at the time, Small said.

“The shooter walks in, pulls a gun, shoots the victim who is inside the store talking on a cell phone,” Small said. “The victim runs down one of the aisles, the shooter follows him. As the victim lays on the floor, our shooter stands over him and continues firing shots.”

The shooter, who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt covering part of his face, fled on foot.

Philadelphia Police scoured the aisle where the man was shot inside of My City Supermarket. Investigators say 10 people were in the store when a masked gunman walked in and executed a 21-year-old man from the neighborhood.

Murder/Suicide – Killed – Baby – Camryn Shultz (Forty Fort, PA)

Camryn Shultz

Officers from Forty Fort and surrounding towns were dispatched to 52 Wesley St. at 11 a.m. Sunday on the report of a man with a gun threatening to kill himself and his daughter.

When police entered the house, they found Camryn Lee dead on the couch with a gunshot wound to the head, borough police said. Her father, 34, was found on the floor, also with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Plains Twp., where he died, according to police.

FORTY FORT– Crime tape surrounded two homes in Forty Fort Sunday afternoon, as state police and the Luzerne County Coroner investigated the scene of an apparent murder-suicide.
Sobbing family members held each other tight after learning the unbearable news from investigators Sunday.

According to police, Camryn Shultz, 1, had been shot and killed by her father Nick, who then turned the gun on himself.

Grandfather Tom Hess said that shortly before the killings, Nick had called Camryn’s mother Jessee with a chilling message.

“Told her to say good-bye to her daughter, she said ‘What do you mean?’ he said, ‘I’ve got one bullet for her and one for me,’” said Hess.

Family members said the parents split up about a week and a half ago.

“We thought he was just trying to scare us, we called 911 and said to get the police over here,” said Hess.

Just one day before, the family celebrated the little girl’s second birthday, which would have been on Tuesday.

“She loved Minnie Mouse, that was the big theme of the party, Minnie Mouse, she loved it, first thing in the door in the morning she would say that I want to see Minnie.”
