Killed – Ja’quan Marquise Brown (Hampton, VA)

Ja'quan Marquise Brown

HAMPTON — A man who police say was trying to rob a woman last month ended up dead at the hands of his accomplice, according to a police affidavit.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired and a screaming woman on North King Street on Aug. 2. While they checked the area, a woman flagged them down and said she was the victim of an attempted robbery while she was walking down the street, according to an affidavit for search warrant filed in Hampton Circuit Court. The shooting occurred at 2:38 a.m.

As two men attempted to rob the woman, two other people came to her aid. The two would-be robbers ran northbound on King Street.

One of the assailants began firing rounds and struck his accomplice, Jaquan Marquise Brown, of Hampton, the affidavit states.

Brown, 21, was shot in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accomplice — who has been identified by police — hasn’t been charged in Brown’s death or in connection to the attempted robbery, according to court documents.

Killed – Male Teen – Justice Hinton (Chesapeake, VA)

Justice Hinton

Chesapeake, VA – A Chesapeake man has been arrested in the shooting death of a 17-year-old on Great Bridge Blvd. near Crestwood Park Sunday night.

20-year-old Andre Robinson has been charged with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony in the death of Justice Hinton.

Police found Hinton suffering from a gunshot wound around 6:17pm. He died at the scene.

Andre Jamal Robinson gave $80 to an acquaintance for a gun last summer, according to court testimony.

The would-be seller reneged on the deal, though. Robinson went to a friend to borrow another pistol.

By the end of the day, the seller – 17-year-old Justice Hinton – was dead and Robinson was in handcuffs.

A Circuit Court judge Monday convicted Robinson, 21, of first-degree murder and illegal use of a handgun during a crime of violence. The former Old Dominion University student faces the possibility of life plus three years in prison when sentenced July 21.

Double Murder – Killed – Cindy Jensen-Ellett (Chesapeake, VA)

female

A man and woman have been charged with murder in a double homicide uncovered Thursday at a home in a quiet neighborhood.

UPDATE: According to police, as a result of the findings through finger prints and dental records, the victims of the double homicide that occurred on July 25, 2013 in the 1300 block of Monarch Reach have been identified as Cindy Jensen-Ellett, 54 and Anthony Barone, 59.

Police said Friday that all four had been staying in the home together.

Chesapeake General District Court records show Ryan Martinez, 34, and Airika Liljegren, 38, were arraigned Friday, charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a body. Martinez also is charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On Thursday morning, police were called to the home in the 1300 block of Monarch Reach, spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan said. The man and woman they found inside apparently had been dead for several days.

Martinez and Liljegren were at the home when police arrived, O’Sullivan said.

A judge decided on Monday that Martinez will serve a total of 53 years in prison, followed by 12 years of probation. He received 40 years for the second-degree murder charge and three years for the firearm charge. He additionally received 10 years for two counts of Transporting a Dead Body.

Martinez’s mother, Cindy Jensen-Ellett, was also found dead inside the home on Monarch Reach.

Martinez’s girlfriend, Airika Liljegren, was also arrested and charged for Jensen-Ellett’s murder.

Barone was found shot to death underneath a pile of clothes in a closet upstairs. Jensen-Ellet’s body was found wrapped in a blue tarp, hidden behind cardboard boxes in the garage.

Murder/Suicide – Dead – Wilber Price Jr (Hopewell, VA)

Wilber Price Jr

Five hours before a Rocky Point woman was found dead from a gunshot to the head inside her burning home on Wednesday, she told police her boyfriend Wilbur Price had stolen $4,400 in savings bonds, an official said Thursday.

Pender County Sheriff’s Capt. Jamie Ezzell said the report, filed about 2 p.m. by Myrle Knowles Carr, 73, didn’t indicate she feared Price, 70, with whom she’d had a romantic relationship for at least a year. But according to police, Price killed Carr Wednesday afternoon, then five hours later shot and killed himself in a Virginia police station parking lot.

Firefighters discovered Carr’s body shortly after entering 4875 Little Kelly Lane in Rocky Point to fight a reported house fire.

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) –

Police say a Hopewell minister killed his mistress, drove hundreds of miles, and then turned the gun on himself at the Hopewell Police Station early Thursday morning. His wife is still alive, and says she knew about his double life – just not why he would kill himself.

North Carolina Police say that 70-year-old Wilber Price Jr. killed a woman Wednesday, setting her house on fire outside of Wilmington.

“He gave me a hug and a kiss I’ll never forget. He didn’t tell me, anything, about what’s been going on down there,” said his wife Sharon Kaye Neely Price.

Sharon knew her husband lived with another woman four hours away: the shooting victim, 73-year-old Myrle Knowles Carr. Price divided his time between his home in Hopewell, Virginia and Rocky Point, North Carolina.

Killed – Paul Gower (Henrico, VA)

Paul Gower

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Police identified the person shot and killed in Henrico Saturday afternoon as 19-year-old Paul Gower of Richmond.

Gower was killed about along the 5700 block of Pony Farm Drive in Central Henrico.

Police arrested Andrew Arthur Pratt, 22, for the shooting. Pratt is charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

As his pregnant wife sobbed a few feet away, Andrew Arthur Pratt explained that he was scared.

“I panicked,” he said, describing to a Henrico County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday how his anger and fear overwhelmed him when a former friend, 19-year-old Paul Gower, unexpectedly appeared at his apartment doorway.

Gower, whom Pratt suspected of having a romantic relationship with his future bride, apparently was just as scared. He exited the apartment on Pony Farm Drive and hustled down the hallway only to be shot in the buttocks by Pratt, who pulled out a .40-caliber handgun, getting off two shots at his fleeing adversary, one of which missed.

“It was not a thought-out process,” Pratt, 23, said. Earlier that June 15 morning last year, Gower and Pratt’s then-girlfriend had been caught on a video camera stealing cellphones from a Target Store. It was the girlfriend’s birthday.

He sentenced Pratt to 20 years in prison, just below the high end of sentencing guidelines. The baby is due in April.

The confrontation occurred shortly before 5 p.m. with Pratt calling 911 to report the shooting.
